Sunset, great music, new friends and new dance moves (iykyk) 🌅

The International Student Office and Student Council brought international students together at Piasau Boat Club for an evening by the sea. Seniors and freshies met, mingled and made new friends along the way, joined by partner organisations who work closely with our International Student Office.

Thank you to everyone who came and made the evening so memorable. Welcome to the Curtin Malaysia community!

“My journey at Curtin Malaysia has been about more than pursuing a PhD. It has been about finding purpose, pushing beyond my comfort zone and exploring how research can create meaningful change.

“I’m pursuing a PhD in Public Health, researching how climate-induced floods affect maternal health in Pakistan. At the heart of my work are women and communities whose needs and voices can easily be overlooked during disasters.

“With a background in public policy and a specialisation in climate change, I am passionate about turning evidence into better policies and healthier, more inclusive communities.

“The PhD journey has brought its share of uncertainty, setbacks and demanding deadlines. But each challenge has taught me resilience, patience and, most importantly, to believe in the value of my work.

“At Curtin Malaysia, I have found a diverse community that encourages me to keep learning and growing.

“My journey is still unfolding, but I hope my research can help build disaster and health systems that leave no one behind. Progress may be slow, but every step forward matters.”

- Zainab Manzoor, PhD Student

🏆 Alumni Spotlight: SEMI SEA Emerging Young Leader Award 2026 🏆

We're incredibly proud to celebrate Sabrina Yeow Peck Kah, a Curtin Malaysia Environmental Engineering alumnus, for being recognised with the SEMI SEA Emerging Young Leader Award 2026! 🎉

Presented by SEMI Southeast Asia, this award honours young professionals under 35 who've shown outstanding leadership, innovation, and impact in growing the semiconductor industry.

Sabrina currently works as a Sustainability Project Manager within Global Operations at Sandisk Malaysia, driving sustainability initiatives across global manufacturing sites, from carbon governance and greenhouse gas management to energy management and AI-enabled sustainability intelligence.

Reflecting on their journey, Sabrina shares that Curtin's Environmental Engineering programme built the analytical and problem-solving foundation that bridges engineering and real-world sustainability practice, while student clubs, leadership roles, and volunteering shaped the communication and teamwork skills they continue to rely on today.

Congratulations, Sabrina! We're proud to have you as part of the Curtin Malaysia alumni community! 🎓

“Growing up, I was always quiet and found it difficult to open up to people. As an introvert who wasn’t the strongest academically, starting university at Curtin Malaysia made me anxious. I worried about keeping up with my studies and making friends.

“But university turned out to be a journey of growth I never expected.

“Through clubs, activities and everyday moments, I met genuine friends who encouraged me to step outside my comfort zone. Academically, I struggled at first, but with the support of my friends and lecturers, I gradually found my confidence. Whenever I felt lost, there was always someone willing to guide me, explain things or simply remind me that I wasn’t alone.

“Over time, I became more confident, more willing to speak up and more comfortable being myself.

Curtin Malaysia taught me that your past results don’t define your potential. You may not start out as the strongest or most confident person, but that doesn’t mean you can’t grow.

“Your past results show where you started - not where you will end up.”
