🎓✨ RESEARCH ISN’T JUST ABOUT ANSWERS. IT’S ABOUT QUESTIONS!

What happens when creative minds start asking BIG questions? 👀💭

The 21st Postgraduate Colloquium at the SOTA USM brought our postgraduate students together to share their latest research, ideas and discoveries. 🎨🔍

From creative concepts to thought-provoking findings, every presentation opened up new perspectives and sparked meaningful conversations. 💡

But the real challenge? The questions! 👀

Our lecturers and evaluators challenged the students with critical questions, constructive feedback and fresh perspectives, helping them rethink, refine and strengthen their research. 🚀

Because research isn’t simply about saying “Here’s what I found.”

It’s about asking…

“Why?” “What if?” “What’s next?” 🤔✨

A huge well done to all our postgraduate students for stepping up, sharing their work and embracing the challenge! 👏🎓

Kunjungan Majlis Rekabentuk Malaysia (MRM) ke SOTA USM: Memperkasa Jaringan dan Ekosistem Reka Bentuk Malaysia

Pada 11 Ogos 2026, School of The Arts (SOTA), Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) menerima kunjungan Majlis Rekabentuk Malaysia (MRM) yang diketuai oleh Timbalan Pengarah MRM, En. Zuljar Jaafar.

Kunjungan ini menjadi platform perkongsian mengenai KL Design Summit 2026 yang bakal berlangsung pada November 2026, selain membuka ruang kepada SOTA USM, khususnya Bahagian Reka Bentuk, untuk bersama-sama terlibat dalam platform yang menghimpunkan institusi pengajian tinggi, industri serta pelbagai pemegang taruh dalam ekosistem reka bentuk Malaysia.

Perbincangan turut mengetengahkan potensi kerjasama akademia, industri dan agensi berkaitan bagi memperkukuh jaringan profesional, memperkasa bakat muda serta memacu inovasi reka bentuk Malaysia ke peringkat nasional dan antarabangsa.

SOTA USM menyambut baik peluang ini sebagai satu lagi langkah dalam memperluas jaringan dan membuka lebih banyak ruang kepada pensyarah, pelajar dan pihak industri untuk berkongsi kepakaran, mempamerkan hasil reka bentuk serta terlibat dalam platform reka bentuk berimpak.

Daripada pendidikan reka bentuk kepada ekosistem reka bentuk negara, SOTA USM terus membuka ruang untuk memperkasa bakat, inovasi dan reka bentuk Malaysia. 🇲🇾✨

🎋 Angklung Music Workshop | Art in the Park 2026

Dr. Muhammad Asyraf Mohd Bakri, Product Design Lecturer at the School of the Arts, Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), had the opportunity to facilitate the Angklung Music Workshop at Art in the Park 2026, held at KLCC Park, Kuala Lumpur, on 25–26 July 2026.

Over two days and four sessions, participants from various age groups were introduced to the angklung through demonstrations, basic playing techniques, group practice and interactive musical activities.

The programme also featured an assistive tool developed through the Angklung Healing Art Project research, initially designed to support older adults in participating in angklung activities. Its application during the programme demonstrated its potential for inclusive and intergenerational participation.

The programme reflects how Product Design, research and traditional arts can come together to create meaningful and accessible creative experiences for the community.

We are proud to celebrate the outstanding achievements of our postgraduate Product Design students at the International Virtual Competition of Creative Arts & Innovative Design in Teaching & Learning 2026 (InViCCAID 2026)! 🏆

Creative Hearts Showcase | Social Engaged Arts in Action

On 9 August 2026, we celebrated the Creative Hearts Showcase: Muzik & Pergerakan Kreatif at SJK(C) Hua Min, Sungai Karangan, Kulim, Kedah, marking the culmination of the Social Engaged Arts Programme by Arts-ED Penang, supported by the Yayasan Hasanah Grant.

Since June, Assoc. Prof. Dr. A.S. Hardy Shafii from SOTA USM was appointed by Arts-ED as a coach to guide the participating artist and pupils throughout the creative journey.

What made this programme special was that the pupils created their own stories, songs, movements, and performance ideas instead of simply following or copying what was prepared for them. Their voices, imagination, and experiences shaped the work. 🌸

More than the final performance, the process was the real achievement. Through creating together, the pupils built confidence, trust, commitment, communication, and teamwork, while learning to listen, understand, support, and help one another. 🤝✨

The showcase was more than a performance. It was a celebration of young voices, creative ownership, and the power of working together through the arts. 🌱🎨
