A warm welcome to our newest cohort at Sunway Business School ✨

Held on 29 & 30 April 2026, SBS Orientation Day marked the beginning of an exciting new chapter for our students as they embarked on their academic journey with us. Over the two-day programme, students had the opportunity to connect with faculty members, meet new peers, and gain valuable insights into the values, expectations, and vibrant learning environment at SBS.

Our Dean, Professor Weng Marc Lim, delivered an inspiring welcome address, encouraging students to embrace every opportunity ahead with passion, curiosity, and resilience.

From programme briefings and academic guidance to engaging student activities, the orientation experience was designed to prepare students both academically and personally for university life. The sessions also highlighted the importance of collaboration, leadership, and initiative, qualities that define the SBS experience.

It was truly encouraging to witness our newest students begin building friendships, confidence, and meaningful connections as they take their first steps into this exciting journey.

We look forward to supporting their growth and success in the years to come.

Welcome to the SBS family!

Limits to the Use of Large Language Models in the Financial Markets

Join us for a thought-provoking special guest lecture exploring the realities, risks, and limitations of artificial intelligence in global finance. As Large Language Models (LLMs) continue to transform industries, how far can they truly go in the high-stakes world of financial markets?

Speaker : Dr Richard Saldanha, Queen Mary University of London
Date : 22 May 2026 (Friday)
Time : 11.00 am – 12.30 pm
Venue : Rooftop Terrace, Graduate Centre

This lecture will focus on the gap between the general-purpose capabilities of LLMs and the precision-driven demands of global financial markets. While LLMs are highly effective in processing unstructured data, they face structural, ethical, and regulatory limitations that prevent them from replacing traditional quantitative models and human judgment.

Key discussion areas include:
• Hype vs. the high level of accuracy required for sound trading decisions
• Technical and cognitive limitations of LLMs
• Strategic and market risks
• Regulatory and legal constraints

We warmly invite all staff and students to attend this timely and insightful session. Don’t miss the opportunity to gain valuable perspectives from an international expert at the intersection of AI and finance.

The Centre for Commercial Law & Justice, Sunway Business School, successfully hosted the official launch of Combatting Modern Slavery: A Global Perspective published by Springer Nature on 28 April 2026 at the Recital Hall, Sunway University @ Sunway Square.

The event brought together distinguished guests, academics, legal professionals, and members of the public for an engaging and thought-provoking discussion on one of the most urgent human rights challenges of our time, modern slavery. The publication offers valuable multi-stakeholder perspectives and global insights towards addressing and combatting this critical issue.

We were deeply honoured by the keynote address delivered by Tun Dato’ Seri Arifin bin Zakaria, whose reflections highlighted the importance of legal frameworks, institutional responsibility, and collective action in safeguarding human dignity and justice.

The event was further graced by the special attendance and book foreword presentation by Tun Tengku Maimun Tuan Mat, whose presence underscored the significance of continued dialogue and collaboration in advancing awareness and reform on issues related to modern slavery.

The Centre for Commercial Law & Justice extends its sincere appreciation to all speakers, contributors, guests, and participants for making the event a meaningful and impactful occasion. Together, we continue to foster conversations and actions towards justice, human rights, and sustainable development.
