The School of Engineering was set up in January 1995 in Dewan Bandaran, Jalan Padang Kota Lama, Penang, Malaysia. It was set up with the vision of meeting the urgent demand in our country for competent professionals and engineers. The School is committed to offer excellent quality and cost-effective engineering education to all. The first engineering program, leading to the award of the Diploma in

Electronics and Telecommunications commenced in January 1997. The fantastic student response lead to the offering of its second engineering program called the Graduate Diploma in Diploma in Telecommunications, Electronics and Computer Engineering that was quickly introduced in May 1997. In may 2002, the school started the collaboration with one of the Australia's leading universities, Deakin University, Australia, in conducting Bachelor of Engineering. In 2004, the School started to collaborate with Northumbria University, United Kingdom to conduct the Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) in Electrical & Electronic Engineering. This program has successfully gains full recognition by Malaysian Qualifications Agency, MQA (formally known as Lembaga Akreditasi Negara, LAN) in June 2006 and enjoyed the reputation of being the first engineering school to have a fully accredited program in the Northern Region. Our final year degree students from UOW Malaysia Penang Campus had the incredible opportunity to participate in the ๐‘†๐ธ๐‘€๐ผ ๐‘‡๐ธ๐ถ๐ป ๐‘๐‘œ๐‘œ๐‘š๐‘’๐‘Ÿ๐‘  ๐ต๐‘œ๐‘œ๐‘ก๐‘๐‘Ž๐‘š๐‘ โ„Ž๐‘’๐‘™๐‘‘ ๐‘Ž๐‘™๐‘œ๐‘›๐‘”๐‘ ๐‘–๐‘‘๐‘’ ๐‘†๐ธ๐‘€๐ผ๐ถ๐‘‚๐‘ ๐‘†๐‘œ๐‘ข๐‘กโ„Ž๐‘’๐‘Ž๐‘ ๐‘ก ๐ด๐‘ ๐‘–๐‘Ž 2026 ๐‘Ž๐‘ก ๐‘€๐ผ๐‘‡๐ธ๐ถ, ๐พ๐‘ข๐‘Ž๐‘™๐‘Ž ๐ฟ๐‘ข๐‘š๐‘๐‘ข๐‘Ÿ, one of the regionโ€™s largest semiconductor and technology ecosystem events.

Throughout the 4-day bootcamp, our students immersed themselves in industry-driven learning experiences, including resume and interview workshops, mentorship discussions, industrial visits to OnSemi and MIMOS, panel sessions with industry leaders, and collaborative problem-solving activities with participants from Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Vietnam, and Australia.

The highlight of the programme was the TechZoomers Challenge, where teams worked together to develop innovative solutions for real-world industry challenges and present them through poster presentations to mentors and judges.

We are especially proud to celebrate our student, ๐‹๐จ๐ก ๐‰๐ข๐š๐ง ๐Š๐š๐ข, and his team for being selected as one of the ๐—ง๐—ผ๐—ฝ ๐Ÿฑ ๐—ณ๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ฎ๐—น๐—ถ๐˜€๐˜ ๐˜๐—ฒ๐—ฎ๐—บ๐˜€ and presenting their solution live on stage during SEMICON Southeast Asia 2026 at MITEC. Their team was awarded a Consolation Prize, a remarkable achievement among many talented participants across the region. Well done, Jian Kai! ๐ŸŽ‰

Beyond the competition, our students also had the chance to explore the SEMICON Southeast Asia exhibition, connect with global industry players, and gain first-hand exposure to the future of the semiconductor and electronics industry.

This event is truly an eye-opening and memorable experience to all our students.
