COMM@LiT 2026 Strengthens University Social Responsibility Through Sustainable Community Partnerships
GEORGE TOWN, PENANG, 6 June — More than 70 residents of Pusat Transit Harapan Pulau Pinang joined students, community partners, healthcare professionals and government representatives in the successful implementation of Phase Two of COMM@Love in Transit 2026 (COMM@LiT 2026).
Driven by the theme "Social Responsibility, Empowering Lives," the programme reflects the School of Communication's commitment to University Social Responsibility (USR) by connecting academic learning with community needs through the SULAM-USM framework.
The programme featured a series of interactive and community-centred activities conducted throughout the morning, including:
1. Wake & Shake: Senamrobik Pagi
An energetic morning exercise session designed to promote physical fitness, healthy living and community participation.
2. COMM@LiT 2026 Fun XploreRace: Mission Green
A sustainability-themed team challenge that encouraged teamwork, environmental awareness and problem-solving through interactive activities. The activity was conducted by YBP 230 Corporate Social Responsibility students from the School of Communication, USM.
3. Mindful Art Space: Wellness Through Creativity
An engaging art-based wellness session that used creative expression and mindfulness activities to promote emotional well-being, stress relief and self-reflection. The session was conducted by Ms Shalsha Wong and Ms Lim Hooi Tin from Pure Lotus of Hospice of Compassion.
4. Stay Clean, Stay Confident: Habits for Healthy Living
A practical health talk that educated residents on personal hygiene, healthy lifestyle habits and disease prevention to support overall well-being. The session was delivered by Dr Ong Jia Wen from Qualitas Health Malaysia.
5. Care & Check: Community Health Screening
A free health screening activity offering basic health checks and professional advice to encourage early detection, health awareness and preventive care. The screening was conducted by Pn. Damia Filzalyya Binti Makhdir, Pn. Grace Tan Shu Jee and Pn. Kee Shin Ai from Georgetown Pharmacy.
6. COMM@LiT 2026 Community Celebration Ceremony
A memorable event that brought together residents of Pusat Transit Harapan Pulau Pinang, students, stakeholders, sponsors, community partners, and volunteers. Serving as a platform to recognise the contributions of all stakeholders, the celebration highlighted the spirit of social responsibility, compassion, and partnership that underpinned COMM@LiT 2026.
The ceremony was officiated by YB Lim Siew Khim, Penang State Executive Councillor (EXCO) for Social Development, Welfare and Non-Islamic Religious Affairs, and attended by Associate Professor Dr Bahiyah Omar, Dean of the School of Communication, Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), alongside representatives from 10 sponsoring organisations and strategic community partners.
Through appreciation sessions, multimedia showcases, performances, and community recognition activities, the ceremony reflected the programme’s shared commitment to fostering social inclusion, community well-being, and sustainable impact through collaborative action.
Through the principles of Value-Based Education, Education for Sustainable Development and University Social Responsibility, COMM@LiT 2026 continues to strengthen partnerships between academia, government, industry and the community while advancing sustainable and inclusive development.
