Today at the University of Nottingham Malaysia, we officially kicked off National Science Week (Minggu Sains Negara) 2026 alongside the Kementerian Sains, Teknologi dan Inovasi (MOSTI). The national flagship programme aims to strengthen STEM engagement and advance AI literacy across Malaysia, in line with the National Policy on Science, Technology and Innovation (DSTIN) 2021-2030.
The day’s proceedings, officiated by YB Datuk Chang Lih Kang, Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, centered on a critical mission: strengthening Malaysia's position in emerging technologies like AI and data science to ensure we don't just consume technology, but create it.
A centrepiece of the launch was the introduction of UNM’s STEAM-AI Impact Centre, an interdisciplinary hub designed to bridge the digital divide and provide inclusive AI education to both urban and rural communities. During the MOSTI TECHTalks 2026 session, Minister Datuk Chang Lih Kang underscored the importance of human-centric innovation, highlighting how the Centre’s mission is democratising technology to bolster national competitiveness.
The event brought together over 240 participants, including representatives from ministries, industry, and education, alongside students from primary and secondary schools. From AI-powered humanoids to real-world machine learning simulations, today demonstrated that the future of Malaysian innovation is not just advanced, but it is inclusive, creative, and ready to solve the challenges of the next quarter-century.
