JSB-MYSEV SEMINAR 2026

The JSB-MYSEV Seminar 2026 titled "Extracellular Vesicles as Messengers of Life and Agents of Death" was successfully held on 20th July 2026 at the Main Meeting Room (BMU, Level 4), Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM).

The programme commenced with the recitation of the opening prayer, followed by a welcoming address by the moderator, Professor Dr. Norshariza Nordin from the Medical Genetics Unit. She warmly welcomed the distinguished speaker and participants while emphasising the importance of scientific collaboration, knowledge sharing, and continuous advancements in biomedical research. She subsequently moderated the seminar professionally, ensuring a smooth, engaging, and interactive session throughout the programme.

A heartfelt appreciation is extended to our distinguished speaker, Professor Dr. Alireza Fazeli, Professor of Comparative Medicine at the Estonian University of Life Sciences and Head of the One Health Centre, for delivering an insightful and inspiring lecture entitled "Extracellular Vesicles as Messengers of Life and Agents of Death." His presentation provided valuable insights into the biological roles of extracellular vesicles in health and disease, highlighting their significance in intercellular communication, disease mechanisms, and their potential applications in biomedical research and future therapeutic strategies. The engaging discussions and knowledge shared greatly benefited all participants.

As a token of appreciation, a Certificate of Appreciation and a commemorative souvenir were presented to Professor Dr. Alireza Fazeli by the Head of the Department of Biomedical Sciences, Prof. Dr. Ling King Hwa, in recognition of his valuable contribution to the seminar. The programme concluded with a group photography session, capturing memorable moments from the event.

Finally, our sincere appreciation is extended to the organising committee, the Malaysian Society for Extracellular Vesicles (MYSEV), especially Dr Norhayati Liaqat Ali Khan (the President of MySEV) for bringing in the speaker, and everyone who contributed to the success of this seminar. The Department of Biomedical Sciences, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Universiti Putra Malaysia extends our warmest congratulations to Ms. Nur Liyana Daud, Master's Candidate in Immunobiology Science, on being awarded Second Runner-up in the Young Roots: "Are You the Next Young Roots?" Writing Competition on Sustainable Palm Oil 2026.

Her award-winning essay, "The Map He Doesn't Have", reflects creativity, critical thinking, and a strong commitment to sustainability.

Organised by the Institute of Plantation Studies (IKP), Universiti Putra Malaysia, in collaboration with the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) as part of Putra Synergy Month 2026, the competition aimed to inspire young scholars to share fresh perspectives on sustainability, responsible consumption, environmental stewardship, and the future of sustainable palm oil.

The competition attracted 40 submissions from UPM postgraduate students representing various faculties and disciplines. We are proud that Ms. Nur Liyana Daud from the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences emerged as the Second Runner-up, a remarkable achievement that reflects her dedication, creativity, and commitment to sustainability.

This achievement was accomplished under the supervision of Dr. Seri Narti Edayu Sarchio, with Prof. Ts. Dr. Mohd Nasir Mohd Desa and Dr. Suhaili Shamsi serving as co-supervisors. Their guidance and mentorship have played an important role in supporting this academic success.

The Department of Biomedical Sciences is proud to celebrate this remarkable accomplishment and wishes Ms. Nur Liyana Daud continued success in all her future endeavours.

JSB SEMINAR SERIES 1/2026

The JSB Seminar Series 2026 titled "Organoid Technology: Translating Basic Scientific Discoveries into Clinical Applications" was successfully held on 7 July 2026 at the Main Meeting Room, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM).

The programme commenced with the recitation of the opening prayer, followed by a welcoming address by the Head of the Department of Biomedical Sciences, Prof. Dr. Ling King Hwa, who warmly welcomed the speaker and participants while highlighting the importance of advancing biomedical research through knowledge sharing and scientific collaboration.

The seminar was professionally moderated by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mok Pooi Ling, whose excellent moderation ensured a smooth, engaging, and interactive session throughout the programme.
