The Department of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering is one of the 8 departments that have been established in the Faculty of Engineering, Universiti Putra Malaysia. At this moment, the department offers a degree in Bachelor of Engineering with options in Mechanical Engineering or Manufacturing Engineering. Besides that, the department also offers programs at the Master's and PhD levels. This department used to be known as the Department of Mechanical and System Engineering and it offers the program; Bachelor in Engineering (Mechanical and System). Later, in 1996, this program was changed to the Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical) with options in Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering. Today, there are more than 300 students who are enrolled for this program. The Department of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering has high quality academic staffs who are actively involved in teaching and research which are recognized at the national and international level. In addition to teaching and research, the Department staff were also active in consultancy projects and publication.The department staff published articles in journals and conference proceedings and were also involved in organising national and international conferences. The Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering program at Universiti Putra Malaysia is an engineering program that has provided exposure to the graduates in the techniques, instruments and in solving problems concerning mechanical and manufacturing engineering. Besides that, the graduates also will gain knowledge and understand the principles of science and engineering.

National Symposium on Advances in Structural Integrity and Thermofluid Engineering (NASITE) 2026

The Department of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering, Faculty of Engineering UPM, through the AdSITE Research Group, successfully hosted the National Symposium on Advances in Structural Integrity and Thermofluid Engineering (NASITE) 2026.

Held at the Faculty of Engineering, this landmark symposium brought together academics, researchers, and students from Malaysia and abroad to share knowledge, foster collaboration, and drive innovation in mechanical and thermofluid engineering.

The program began with an opening speech by Assoc. Prof. Ir. Dr. Nuraini binti Abdul Aziz, Chair of NASITE 2026, followed by an invited lecture from Assoc. Prof. Ts. Dr. Noor Hafizah binti Amer (UPNM) on External Direct Yaw Moment and its Effect on Power Loss Properties for an Electric Ground Vehicle.

Participants then engaged in three parallel sessions, featuring presentations on advanced materials, solder joint reliability, solar energy systems, crashworthiness of hybrid structures, sustainable insulation technologies, computational fluid dynamics, biomass drying, vibration signal analysis, and innovative heat exchanger designs.

The symposium concluded with recognition and closing remarks, celebrating the contributions of all presenters and participants.

The Department extends its sincere appreciation to all speakers, participants, and organizing members for their dedication and support in making NASITE 2026 a meaningful platform for knowledge sharing, innovation, and future collaboration in engineering excellence.

Outstanding Achievement at RIPC 2026!

The Department of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering (KMP), Faculty of Engineering, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) extends warm congratulations to student Mrs. Zaimah Hasan, together with the supervisory committee, Prof. Ir. Dr. Khairol Ariffin Mohd Anuar, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mohd Idris Shah Ismail, and Dr. Khairil Anas Md Rezali, for receiving the Diamond Award (PhD Category) at the Research & Innovation Poster Competition (RIPC 2026) organized by MNNF Network.

The project titled “Optimizing Bimodal Inconel 718 Cold Spray through Mechanistic Modeling of Preheating and Tamping Synergies” was recognized in the competition, reflecting the department’s ongoing commitment to research and innovation.

RIPC 2026 is an academic competition that gathers PhD, Master’s, Bachelor’s, and Diploma students from various institutions to present their research projects and encourage a culture of research and innovation.

Congratulations once again to Mrs. Zaimah Hasan and the supervisory committee for this achievement. May this success motivate all members of KMP to continue contributing actively in the field of research and innovation.

Young Tribologist Award

Congratulations to our Master’s graduate, Mr. Muhammad Shuhaimi Ibrahim, on receiving the Young Tribologist Award 2025 at the Gala Dinner of the 7th Malaysia-Japan Tribology Symposium (MJTS 2026), held at UTM Kuala Lumpur – MJIIT.

The award recognises Mr. Muhammad Shuhaimi's outstanding contribution to tribology and lubrication engineering research. His research was presented at the 6th MYTRIBOS International Symposium 2025, organised by the Malaysian Tribology Society (MYTRIBOS) at UKM, and published as a journal article in Jurnal Tribologi in 2026.

Conducted under the supervision of Ir. Dr. Mohd Hafis Sulaiman, the research reflects a strong commitment to research excellence and has earned well-deserved recognition in the field of tribology.

Benchmarking Visit from UNIMAS for MEM Program

The Department of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering (KMP), Faculty of Engineering UPM, was honored to host a benchmarking visit from Faculty of Engineering, Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) on the Master in Engineering Management (MEM) program.

The visit focused on sharing best practices in curriculum design, quality assurance, and postgraduate management, strengthening academic collaboration since MEM was first offered at KMP in 2003.

Program Activities:

Program briefing - overview of curriculum, CQI, and postgraduate management.

Discussion session - dialogue on accreditation, student intake, research support, and industry links.

Laboratory tour - visit to CAD/CAM Lab, Manufacturing Technology & Automation Lab, and Strength of Materials Lab.

Closing session - group photo and souvenir exchange at the Faculty Conference Room.
