Mechanical Design Day is a yearly program organized by Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Shah Alam under CDIO Committee and cooperation with IMechE UiTM Student Chapter. The objective of the program is to provide a medium for student to share their achievements in applying the engineering knowledge, improve teamwork and communication skill with others. This coming
event is third year Mechanical Design Day program and will be held on 13 & 17 June 2015. During the event the student from various semesters will present the outcome of the courses such some basic design as an introduction to mechanical engineering, design and engineering analysis of product or system, and complete product or system design to be evaluated. This year the student is given three different tasks such as flooding aid product development, airboat design and single seater vehicle. For airboat and single seater vehicle design projects are formula based design, where the student is given one year to design and manufacture the product based on provided specification. FM Malaysia which is part of the Mechanical Design Day will be organized for single seater and airboat racing. This FM Malaysia is opened for Malaysian university students who would like to participate. This formula is first time organized and opened to other universities, so participation will be based on invitation. The Mechanical Design Day will be participated more than 1000 students, lecturers and parents. Several VIPs including the sponsors will be invited for opening or closing ceremony of the event. This event also opens for public and several schools surrounding the Shah Alam Campus. Previously, most of the cost to run the program was sponsored by the UiTM and student own budget. This constrain had given some limitation to the student to innovate and propose the best solution of the design. By proactive support from sponsors, we believed that the Mechanical Design Day can support students to develop skill and confidence in various fields such technical knowledge, teamwork and communication. Sponsors will also strengthen the social fabric of the community and build customer loyalty. The sponsors have potential to raise their profile in the community and reach new customers is extensive. We will provide sponsors with opportunities to promote their services to visitors, parents, students, staff, stakeholders and supporters through various channels such as our newsletters, website, events and media exposure.
