🌿 UiTM Researchers Participate in International Workshop on Product Innovation of Gingers in Thailand under KKP Grant 🇲🇾🇹🇭

Researchers from Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) participated in the Workshop on Product Innovation of Gingers under the Konsortium Kecemerlangan Penyelidikan (KKP) Grant by KPT, organised by the Faculty of Agro-Industry, Prince of Songkla University (PSU), Thailand, from 10–14 August 2026. The programme was conducted in collaboration with Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA) and Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM), strengthening national research networking alongside international engagement.

Representing UiTM were Associate Professor ChM. Dr. Noor Hidayah Pungot and Associate Professor ChM. Dr. Karimah Kassim, together with postgraduate student Nadhirah Najwa Mohd Farith, alongside participating researchers from UMPSA and UTHM.

The week-long programme provided valuable exposure to the development, processing, analysis, and functional applications of ginger and ginger-derived products, including herbal medicine and extract production, antioxidant assays, food product applications, gut–brain health and nutraceutical studies, in vitro gut fermentation, and advanced instrumental analysis for bioactive compound identification and quantification.

Participants also benefited from hands-on laboratory workshops and visits to key facilities at PSU, including the Science Park, Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Food Research and Innovation Centre, and Scientific Equipment Centre.

This international engagement serves as an important platform for knowledge exchange, postgraduate research development, and the strengthening of collaborative research between UiTM, UMPSA, UTHM, and Prince of Songkla University (PSU), particularly in the areas of natural products, bioactive compounds, functional foods, and value-added product innovation.

🔬🌿 LAWATAN TAPAK GERAN IMaP DI NOOR ARFA BATIK, TERENGGANU 🌿🔬

Institut Sains (IOS), Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) telah menerima lawatan tapak daripada wakil Kementerian Pendidikan Tinggi (KPT) dan UiTM bagi pemantauan pelaksanaan projek di bawah Skim Geran Penyelidikan Program Padanan Industri (IMaP).

Lawatan tapak yang berlangsung di Noor Arfa Batik, Terengganu ini melibatkan projek penyelidikan yang diketuai oleh Dr. Ahmad Faiza Mohd dari Institut Sains (IOS), UiTM, bertajuk:

“Novel Digital Ink System Based on Grafted Acrylate Functionality for Cotton Printing towards Reduction of Carbon Footprint for Malaysian Batik”

Lawatan ini bertujuan menilai perkembangan dan pelaksanaan projek, di samping melihat potensi aplikasi hasil penyelidikan dalam persekitaran industri sebenar melalui kerjasama strategik bersama Noor Arfa Batik.

Projek ini memberi fokus kepada pembangunan sistem dakwat digital inovatif untuk percetakan fabrik kapas yang berpotensi menyumbang kepada pengurangan jejak karbon, meningkatkan kelestarian proses penghasilan batik serta memperkukuh penggunaan teknologi dan inovasi dalam industri batik Malaysia.

Institut Sains merakamkan setinggi-tinggi penghargaan kepada pihak KPT, UiTM dan Noor Arfa Batik atas sokongan, kerjasama serta maklum balas yang diberikan dalam memastikan penyelidikan ini dapat diterjemahkan kepada aplikasi yang memberi manfaat kepada industri.

Tahniah kepada Prof. Madya Dr. Noor Hidayah Pungot, Pensyarah Kanan Fakulti Sains Gunaan, Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), atas perkongsian kepakaran beliau dalam akhbar Kosmo! bertajuk "Dadah Baharu Ancam Nyawa".

Melalui artikel ini, beliau menjelaskan bahaya New Psychoactive Substances (NPS) atau dadah sintetik baharu yang semakin membimbangkan, termasuk cabaran mengenal pasti bahan-bahan tersebut serta implikasinya terhadap kesihatan dan keselamatan masyarakat.

17 JULY 2026 | RESEARCH VISIT BY DELEGATES FROM NATIONAL CENTRAL UNIVERSITY (NCU), TAIWAN STRENGTHENS UiTM'S INTERNATIONAL RESEARCH NETWORK

The Institute of Science (IOS), Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), had the honour of welcoming a delegation from the National Central University (NCU), Taiwan as part of the Research Visit by Delegates from National Central University (NCU), Taiwan to Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), Malaysia. The programme was held at Room A301, Faculty of Applied Sciences (FSG), UiTM Selangor.

The visit aimed to strengthen international academic and research collaborations while providing a platform for knowledge exchange, exploration of joint research opportunities, and the establishment of strategic partnerships between researchers and the academic communities of both institutions.

The NCU delegation comprised Distinguished Professor Chung-Jen Tseng, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Director of the Hydrogen Energy Research Center, National Central University, and Energy Program Director at the National Science and Technology Council (NSTC), Taiwan, as well as Professor Sheng-Wei Lee, Institute of Materials Science and Engineering and Director of the Graduate Institute of Materials Science and Engineering, National Central University.

The programme also brought together UiTM researchers and academics from various campuses, reflecting the University's commitment to fostering multidisciplinary research collaboration. Among those in attendance were Prof. Ts. Dr. Mohd Rozi Ahmad (Dean, Faculty of Applied Sciences), Assoc. Prof. Dr Khairul Adzfa Radzun (Deputy Dean, Research, Industrial Linkages and Alumni Unit, Faculty of Applied Sciences), Assoc. 8 July 2026 | University Social Responsibility (USR) & Knowledge Transfer Program (KTP) “Science in Everyday Life”

The Institute of Science (IoS), Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), in collaboration with the Faculty of Applied Sciences (FSG), UiTM and Sekolah Kebangsaan Raja Muda, Seksyen 4, Shah Alam, successfully conducted a STEM outreach programme under the theme "Science is Fun".

The programme aimed to nurture curiosity and foster a love for science among school pupils through engaging, interactive, and hands-on STEM activities. Guided by dedicated postgraduate students from FSG and IOS, participants had the opportunity to explore scientific concepts in a fun and meaningful way, proving that learning science can be both exciting and inspiring.

We extend our heartfelt appreciation to PM Dr. Zakiah Mohamed for the invitation and the opportunity to collaborate in making this programme a meaningful success. Special thanks are also due to PM Dr. Noor Fitrah Abu Bakar, PM Dr. Karimah Kassim, all facilitators, and our enthusiastic postgraduate students whose commitment, teamwork, and passion made this University Social Responsibility (USR) and Knowledge Transfer Programme truly impactful.

Together, we continue to inspire the next generation, cultivate scientific literacy, and empower young minds through the joy of STEM learning.

UiTM–Tohoku University Strengthen Research Collaboration Through JST-NEXUS Young Talent Exchange Programme

SHAH ALAM, 15 July 2026 – Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), through the Institute of Science (IoS), successfully hosted the JST-NEXUS Young Talent Exchange Programme: UiTM x Tohoku University Research Knowledge Sharing Session at the Institute of Science Seminar Room on 15 July 2026. The programme brought together lecturers and students from the Institute of Science and the Faculty of Chemical Engineering, together with eight delegates from Tohoku University, Japan, as part of the ongoing activities under the JST-NEXUS Young Talent Exchange Programme Grant.

The programme was coordinated by Associate Professor Ir. Dr. Noor Fitrah Abu Bakar, UiTM Coordinator for the JST-NEXUS Young Talent Exchange Programme, who played a key role in facilitating the academic exchange and strengthening research collaboration between both institutions. The Tohoku University delegation was led by Professor Naomi Kitakawa and Associate Professor Atsushi Takahashi.

The knowledge-sharing session featured research presentations by six master's students from Tohoku University, highlighting their latest work in sustainable chemical processes, catalytic technologies, polymer degradation, biodiesel production, plasma-assisted oxidation, and carbon dioxide conversion. The presentations provided an excellent platform for researchers, lecturers, and students from UiTM to exchange ideas, explore emerging research trends, and foster meaningful academic discussions.

A lively question-and-answer session followed the presentations, with discussions centred on expanding opportunities for collaboration among early-career researchers under the age of 40, in line with the objectives of the JST-NEXUS Young Talent Exchange Programme. The delegation also introduced opportunities for future collaborative research through NanoTerasu, Japan's state-of-the-art synchrotron radiation facility, inviting UiTM researchers to leverage its advanced capabilities for high-impact scientific research.

The programme reflects UiTM's continued commitment to strengthening international research partnerships, enhancing knowledge exchange, and nurturing the next generation of researchers through global collaboration. It is hoped that this initiative will pave the way for impactful joint research projects and long-term strategic partnerships between UiTM and Tohoku University.
