Faculty of Applied Sciences, UiTM Shah Alam THIS IS AN OFFICIAL FSG PAGE. FSG (Fakulti Sains Gunaan) is the 4th Biggest Faculty with four (4) S The Faculty of Applied Sciences was established in 1967.

It started as the School of Applied Sciences at Institute Technology MARA’s (ITM) Jalan Othman campus in Petaling Jaya. In 1974 the School of Applied Sciences moved to Shah Alam where the Faculty of Applied Sciences was established in 1977 when ITM was upgraded to university status. The first programme offered in 1967 was Diploma in Planting Industry Management. Over the years the faculty has evo

lved into offering many programmes from pre-degree level to post-graduate level as a result of which new faculties such as the Faculty of Chemical Engineering, Faculty of Health Sciences and Faculty of Plantation and Agrotechnology were set-up. Currently the faculty offers 25 programmes. In future more programmes at post-graduate level will be offered by the faculty.

Artikel Utusan Malaysia bertajuk “Jerebu: Majikan perlu lindungi pekerja” bertarikh 21 Ogos 2026 membincangkan kepentingan kesiapsiagaan majikan dalam melindungi pekerja daripada risiko kesihatan dan keselamatan akibat jerebu, khususnya mereka yang menjalankan tugas di kawasan terbuka. Artikel ini menekankan bahawa pekerja seperti penghantar makanan, pekerja pembinaan, penyelenggaraan jalan dan utiliti, landskap serta pengawal keselamatan merupakan antara golongan yang lebih terdedah. Antara langkah yang disarankan ialah memantau Indeks Pencemaran Udara (IPU), menyusun semula jadual kerja, mengurangkan tempoh pendedahan, menyediakan ruang rehat yang sesuai serta memastikan arahan kepada pekerja disampaikan dengan jelas.

Artikel ini ditulis oleh En. Fairus Muhamad Darus dan Dr. Nurul Latiffah Abd. Rani dari Pusat Pengajian Kimia dan Persekitaran, Fakulti Sains Gunaan, Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM). Perkongsian ini menegaskan bahawa perlindungan pekerja ketika jerebu bukan sekadar bergantung kepada penggunaan pelitup muka, sebaliknya memerlukan pengurusan risiko yang menyeluruh serta perancangan awal sebelum keadaan menjadi lebih serius.

🌿 FSG Researchers Participate in International Ginger Innovation Workshop in Thailand 🇲🇾🇹🇭

Researchers from Faculty of Applied Sciences, Universiti Teknologi MARA participated in the Workshop on Product Innovation of Gingers, organised by the Faculty of Agro-Industry, Prince of Songkla University (PSU), Thailand, from 10–14 August 2026 under the Konsortium Kecemerlangan Penyelidikan (KKP) Grant by KPT.

Representing UiTM were Associate Professor ChM. Dr. Noor Hidayah Pungot, Associate Professor ChM. Dr. Karimah Kassim, and postgraduate student Nadhirah Najwa Mohd Farith, together with researchers from UMPSA and UTHM.

The programme provided valuable hands-on exposure to ginger processing, bioactive compound analysis, herbal and functional food development, antioxidant assays, nutraceutical applications, gut–brain health, and advanced instrumental analysis. Participants also visited key research and innovation facilities at PSU.

This international programme strengthened research collaboration, postgraduate development, and knowledge exchange between UiTM, UMPSA, UTHM and PSU, particularly in natural products, functional foods and value-added product innovation.

Congratulations to Faculty of Applied Sciences (FSG) UiTM students Huda Bathrishiya Agust Salim, Noor Izzati Faqihah Muhamad Rozian, and Putri Nursyakirah Abdul Wahab (AS246/AS266) on winning the Gold Medal at the International Creative Poster Competition, Agriculture Science Festival (ASF) VI 2026, organized by Warmadewa University, Indonesia.

This achievement recognizes their outstanding research poster titled: "Effect of Heat and Enzymatic Pre-Treatment on the Physicochemical and Sensory Acceptability of Jackfruit (Artocarpus heterophyllus) Seed Milk."
