On 7 August 2026, 218 students from the School of Foundation Studies (SFS) came together for an afternoon focused on something that matters to all of us, our health and wellbeing.

The programme started with a free health screening, followed by two meaningful sharing sessions at Lecture Theatre Hall C.

We were grateful to have Dr Mohd Zulfikry Bin Ahmad, Family Medicine Specialist from the Sibu Division Health Office, who spoke openly about sexually transmitted infections (STIs), including testing, prevention and why seeking help early is so important.

The session continued with Dr John Chieng Kwang Chong, Psychiatric Specialist from Sibu General Hospital, who shared about mental health awareness, recognising signs that someone may need support, and how we can look out for ourselves and the people around us.

Some health topics can be difficult to talk about, but conversations like these matter. We hope our students left the event feeling a little more informed, more comfortable asking questions, and more confident about reaching out for help when needed.

A big thank you to our speakers, healthcare team, organisers and students who made the programme possible.

This is only the beginning. We hope to continue creating more spaces where health and wellbeing can be talked about openly and naturally within our campus community.
