On 5th and 6th August 2026, a total of 29 participants attended the “Write Smart, Review Sharp: A Hands-On Workshop for Indexed Journals”. The workshop aimed to enhance participants’ understanding of journal quality metrics and appropriate journal selection, including strategies to avoid predatory journals. It also focused on developing well-structured manuscript sections with logical flow and clear academic arguments. Hands-on exercises in manuscript writing and peer review were conducted to strengthen participants’ ability to critically evaluate and improve research manuscripts to meet publication standards.

On 13th May 2026, the IEEE UTS Student Branch successfully held a handover ceremony for the EPICS SOLAR Project at SK Sentosa, Sibu. The main objective of the project is to empower the local community and promote energy independence by installing off-grid solar photovoltaic (PV) systems to reduce the school's grid electricity consumption. This meaningful initiative was supervised by Associate Professor Dr. Yong Ching Yee and Mr. Tiong Tung Chuan, who served as the Advisors to the IEEE UTS Student Branch, supported by Dr. Nor Asrina Binti Ramlee (Head of Energy Cluster, CRISD) and SET. The handover ceremony was attended by several distinguished guests, including Ts. Nuramalina Binti Bohari (Head of Programme for Electrical Engineering Programme) and Mr Azizee bin Alli Ahmad (Headmaster of SK Sentosa). The involvement of CRISD in this event reflects its commitment to supporting sustainable development initiatives that promote energy and economic efficiency.

On 31st March 2026, CRISD collaborated with SCEEST to organize a webinar featuring Ts. Dr. Kalidasan Balasubramanian, who presented recent developments and applications of nanomaterial enhanced next generation phase change materials for thermal energy storage. The session aimed to promote interdisciplinary collaboration and was particularly relevant to researchers and students interested in applying nanotechnology within Thermal Engineering and Chemical Engineering. The webinar attracted more than 60 participants, including researchers, students, and academicians. Overall, the event was not only providing deep technical insights but also stimulating interactive discussions and laying the groundwork for future collaborative research initiatives.

On 10 March 2026, the CRISD and i-CRISD committees held a Strategic Discussion Meeting with Mr. Donny Tan, General Manager of Business Development (Convention), Business Events Sarawak (BESarawak), and Ts. Dr. Gary Loh Chee Wyai, Director of the Centre for International Relations (CIR), UTS. The meeting explored grant and collaboration opportunities for the i-CRISD conference 2027. On 20 Nov 2025, CRISD held a discussion with Dr Ng Sing Muk and Mr Kiu Miin Fung from Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB) on potential collaboration under the SEB Powering Ideas Programme, an initiative that funds research supporting the utility sector. CRISD successfully organized the International Symposium on Recent Innovation for Sustainable Development 2025 (RISD25) on 18–19 Nov 2025, in collaboration with the Centre for Continuing Education and Professional Development, JKR Sarawak, and the Institution of Engineers Malaysia Sarawak Branch. Nine distinguished keynote speakers from Malaysia, Singapore, and Brunei, representing academia, the public sector, and industry, were invited to exchange ideas and share experiences on sustainable development.
