Congratulations to Dr. Nies Hui Wen, Senior Lecturer at the Faculty of Computing, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), on successfully completing her one-year postdoctoral fellowship at the Temasek Life Sciences Laboratory (TLL), Singapore.

During her fellowship from 2 June 2025 to 31 May 2026, Dr. Nies applied her expertise in Machine Learning and Computational Analysis to interdisciplinary research involving plant diagnostics and agricultural precision.

Her experience demonstrates how computing expertise can extend beyond traditional disciplinary boundaries, connecting Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Bioinformatics and Plant Science to address real-world challenges.

Now back at UTM, Dr. Nies brings valuable international research experience, new academic networks and knowledge that will contribute to strengthening the research ecosystem at the Faculty of Computing.

Congratulations, Dr. Nies Hui Wen!
May this achievement create further opportunities for international research collaboration and knowledge exchange.

Congratulations to Saad Mohsen Hassan Alogaili who passed his PhD viva with corrections on 17th September 2026 (Thursday).

His thesis was titled โ€œENHANCED LOCATION AIDED ROUTING PROTOCOL FOR SECURE AND ENERGY EFFICIENT MOBILE AD HOC NETWORKSโ€œ supervised by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mohd Murtadha bin Mohamad.

His examiners were Prof. Ts. Dr. Kamalrulnizam bin Abu Bakar and Prof. Ir. Dr. R Badlishah bin Ahmad (UniMAP). The viva session was chaired by Prof. Ts. Dr. Md Asri bin Ngadi and recorded by Dr. Mohd Kufaisal bin Mohd Sidik.

FC Students Selected for KAIST SoC Global Preview Week 2026 in South Korea

Congratulations to Mathaba Hassan Mohamed Hassan and Phavanee Katriya Phon-Amnuaisuk, undergraduate students from the Faculty of Computing, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), who were selected to participate in the KAIST School of Computing (SoC) Global Preview Week (GPW) 2026 in Daejeon and Seoul, South Korea, from 7โ€“11 September 2026.

The fully supported programme received applications from nearly 1,000 students across partner universities in Asia, with only 31 students selected to participate. GPW provides participants with exposure to KAIST SoCโ€™s research environment and graduate programmes through faculty research talks, laboratory visits, interaction with graduate students, and opportunities to explore future postgraduate study and research pathways.

Throughout the programme, the students attended research talks covering areas including software trust, physical AI, cybersecurity, generative modelling, embodied intelligence, robotics, social simulation, and multilingual and multicultural large language models. They also visited several KAIST research laboratories, including the Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) Laboratory and Cyber-Physical Systems and Security (CyPhy) Lab, and participated in the Security@KAIST poster session.

We hope this opportunity will encourage more FC students to explore international academic, research, and postgraduate opportunities.

FC Students Explore Immersive Technologies at HIT Lab NZ

Christchurch, 1 September 2026 - A group of 23 students from the Faculty of Computing (FC) had the opportunity to undertake an academic visit to the Human Interface Technology Laboratory New Zealand (HIT Lab NZ), University of Canterbury (UC), in Christchurch, New Zealand.

The students were accompanied by Dr. Fazliaty Edora Fadzli and Dr. Muhammad Anwar Ahmad, who supported and guided the students throughout the academic programme and their engagement at UC.

The visit provided the students with valuable exposure to developments in Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR), Mixed Reality (MR), Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) and other emerging immersive technologies being explored through research and innovation at HIT Lab NZ.

Beyond a laboratory visit, the experience enabled the students to see how knowledge and skills in computing can be translated into research, technological innovation and real-world applications. It also provided a valuable international learning environment where students could engage with new ideas, technologies and perspectives.

The mobility programme further reflects the growing strategic collaboration between UTM and UC, particularly in immersive technologies, student mobility, research collaboration and global talent development.

Faculty of Computing continues to broaden our studentsโ€™ learning beyond the classroom, providing opportunities to experience global research and innovation ecosystems firsthand and encouraging them to become more globally connected, innovative and future-ready graduates.

BENGKEL SEMAKAN PROGRAM AKADEMIK BERSAMA PANEL PENASIHAT INDUSTRI (IAP) & PENYELARASAN PROGRAM 2026

Fakulti Komputeran, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) telah menganjurkan Bengkel Semakan Program Akademik bersama Panel Penasihat Industri (IAP) & Penyelarasan Program 2026 pada 14 hingga 15 September 2026 bertempat di Opero Hotel Southkey, Johor Bahru.

Bengkel ini melibatkan Dekan, Timbalan Dekan (Akademik & Hal Ehwal Pelajar), Timbalan Dekan (Penyelidikan & Inovasi), Ketua Jabatan, Pengurus Kualiti Akademik, penyelaras program serta Panel Penasihat Industri (IAP) bagi membincangkan dan meneliti semula program akademik agar sentiasa relevan, responsif dan selari dengan keperluan industri serta perkembangan semasa dalam bidang teknologi dan pengkomputeran.

Sesi bersama Panel Penasihat Industri turut menyediakan platform kepada pihak fakulti untuk mendapatkan pandangan, cadangan dan input profesional berkaitan kurikulum, kompetensi graduan serta keperluan kemahiran masa hadapan.

Bengkel ini diharapkan dapat memperkukuh usaha Fakulti Komputeran dalam memastikan program akademik yang ditawarkan terus berkualiti, berdaya saing dan memenuhi keperluan industri, selaras dengan aspirasi pendidikan tinggi dan perkembangan teknologi semasa.
