On 2 June 2026, students from the Bachelor of Communication (Mass Communication) and Diploma in Journalism programmes at Southern University College participated in an educational visit to MeleTOP at Astro, Bukit Jalil. The visit was organised by TV Production lecturer, Asna Zukrina Ahmad Zukni, in collaboration with the DJC Society 2026 Committee, with the aim of providing students with practical exposure to the broadcasting industry while bridging the gap between classroom learning and professional media practices. During the visit, students attended the live broadcast of MeleTOP, which featured a variety of entertainment segments, including appearances by Zul Ariffin and the cast members of Tarung: Unforgiven, a 2026 Malaysian action-thriller film starring Mierul Aiman and Aedy Ashraf. The programme also welcomed performances and appearances by Caliph Buskers, as well as Marsha Milan and Velvet Aduk in conjunction with the Gawai celebration.
Prior to the live broadcast, MeleTOP producer Shazwin Mazlina Mazlan conducted an exclusive briefing session for the students, providing valuable insights into the programme’s production process, operational structure, and behind-the-scenes workflow. The session was followed by an engaging question-and-answer segment, allowing students to interact directly with industry professionals and gain a deeper understanding of television production. One of the most significant learning outcomes of the visit was the opportunity to observe the workflow of Multi-Camera Production (MCP) in a professional broadcasting environment. Students witnessed firsthand how producers, directors, floor managers, camera operators, audio technicians, and technical crews collaborated seamlessly to ensure the successful ex*****on of a live television programme.
The visit was particularly memorable as all participating Mass Communication and Journalism students had the opportunity to appear on live national television during the broadcast. In addition, Southern University College received valuable recognition when the institution was mentioned live on air, providing meaningful exposure to a nationwide audience. Beyond the excitement of participating as a live studio audience, the experience enabled students to develop a deeper appreciation of the broadcasting industry, strengthen their understanding of MCP operations, and connect theoretical concepts learned in the classroom with real-world industry practices. Overall, the visit served as a highly enriching educational experience that enhanced students’ academic learning, broadened their industry perspectives, and inspired them to pursue future careers in media, journalism, and broadcasting.
