✨Ink and Independence: Weaving Malaysia’s Multilingual Story
In conjunction with the 2026 National Day theme, "Malaysia MADANI: Kesejahteraan Dinikmati" (Well-being for All), this collection exhibition revisits Malaysia's historic journey to independence. From the early anti-colonial movements and the multi-ethnic negotiations in London, to Tunku Abdul Rahman’s iconic cries of "Merdeka!" at Stadium Merdeka on 31 August 1957, our freedom was forged through unity and compromise.
Building upon this historical foundation, the exhibition explores the subsequent development of the nation's multilingual literature and diverse cultural heritage. The exhibition brings together literary works written in Malay by Malaysian Chinese Literature (Mahua) authors, Malay literary works translated into Chinese, classical Chinese literary works translated into Malay, and publications in Malay introducing Chinese literature. Together, these collections illustrate the longstanding dialogue, mutual learning, and integration between the two languages and their literary traditions.
By showcasing literary creation, translation, and cross-cultural scholarship, this exhibition highlights the vital role of language as a bridge connecting different communities and cultures. It promotes mutual understanding, the sharing of cultural heritage, and a deeper appreciation of the richness and unique value of Malaysia's multicultural society.
