Sometimes, we struggle to learn something new,
not because we are not smart enough,

but because we keep telling ourselves:

“I already know.”

🎧Music Knows No Boundaries: Kayley Bishop at Southern University College
The “Kayley Bishop at Southern UC” Music Exchange Session, jointly organised by the Student Affairs Office of Southern University College and the Public Diplomacy Section of the U.S. Embassy Kuala Lumpur, was successfully held on 17 August 2026. American singer-songwriter Kayley Bishop took the stage alongside keyboardist Curry Winborn and drummer Michael Ball, delivering an engaging performance and providing students and staff with a meaningful cross-cultural experience through music.
During the performance, Kayley introduced the stories behind several of her original songs. She shared that her songwriting is inspired by emotions and experiences drawn from everyday life, with her works exploring different forms of “love”, including romantic, platonic and familial love. Through her music, she hopes to convey warmth and strength. She also invited the audience to participate in interactive segments and sing along, creating an energetic atmosphere. Kayley concluded the performance with the classic song You Are My Sunshine, whose familiar melody resonated with the audience and brought a warm close to the session.
During the sharing and Q&A session that followed, Kayley and the two musicians engaged with audiences on topics including their songwriting journeys, the challenges and rewards of pursuing their dreams, and the importance of staying true to oneself. Drawing from their personal experiences, they encouraged students to pursue their aspirations with courage and confidence. Kayley also shared her impressions of Malaysia, expressing her appreciation for the country’s rich cultural diversity, food, and the warmth and friendliness of its people.
The session gave our students an opportunity to experience the appeal of live music up close and engage directly with international musicians. Through the performance, personal stories and meaningful conversations, students gained new perspectives and inspiration while further strengthening international and cultural exchange on campus.
