FET Academic Promotion Experience Sharing Forum 2026

The Faculty of Engineering and Technology recently hosted the FET Academic Promotion Experience Sharing Forum 2026, providing a valuable platform for academic staff to gain practical insights into the academic promotion process and learn from colleagues with recent firsthand experience.

The forum commenced with welcoming remarks by the Dean, Prof. Ir. Denny Ng Kok Sum. Moderated by Assoc. Prof. Dr Daniel Looi Ting Wee, the session featured five academic colleagues who were successfully promoted in the 2025 Sunway University Academic Promotion Exercise:

Drawing on their recent experiences, the panelists shared practical perspectives on their academic promotion journey, including their preparation, experiences throughout the process, and key considerations for colleagues preparing for their own promotion exercise.

The sharing session was followed by an engaging Q&A session, allowing academic staff to seek clarification and exchange views on matters related to academic promotion. The forum concluded with a networking session, providing further opportunities for colleagues to connect and continue the conversation.

The Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Sunway University is delighted to share that Dr Tan Kim Han and Dr Md Abu Zaed have been appointed as Guest Editors for the Special Issue “𝐀𝐝𝐯𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐝 𝐌𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐥𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐄𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐠𝐲 𝐒𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐠𝐞”, an Open Access Special Issue in the MDPI journal. The journal has an Impact Factor of 2.9 and a CiteScore of 5.4, providing an international platform for high-quality research on advanced materials, energy storage technologies, and related emerging applications.

Introducing this week's "FET Academic of the Week", Assoc. Prof. Dr Sim Tze Ying from School of Computing and Artificial Intelligence.

Dr Sim’s teaching approach involves students learning according to the GEM standard (Generate, Evaluate, Master), with each submission accompanied by an AI audit trail that records the questions they raise, where the AI tools may have gone wrong, and how their own analysis helped to identify and correct these issues.

Associate Professor Ir. Ts. Dr Wong Shen Yuong, delivered an invited keynote titled “𝐃𝐞𝐞𝐩 𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠-𝐃𝐫𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐧 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐀𝐮𝐭𝐨𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐒𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐒𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐆𝐫𝐢𝐝 𝐂𝐲𝐛𝐞𝐫-𝐏𝐡𝐲𝐬𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐒𝐲𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐦𝐬” at the 2026 International Conference on Deep Learning and Automation (ICDLA 2026).
