Congratulations to our BSc (Hons) Information Technology (Computer Networking and Security) student, Lim Ying Qian, and team for being recognised as one of the Top 10 Excellent Team at the ACTION Hackathon 2026, held as part of the 2026 Asian Climate-SDG Technology Innovation Hackathon for the Next Generation: Safeguarding Human Health in the Climate Crisis at The University of Hong Kong (HKU). The event was hosted by Tsinghua University with support from the Asian Universities Alliance (AUA), World Meteorological Organization (WMO), World Health Organization (WHO), and other regional partners.

The team members are:
CHEW FENG YING – Doctor of Medicine (MD)
LIM JOE MIN – Doctor of Medicine (MD)
TOH JUN TIAN – Doctor of Medicine (MD)
LEE JING – Doctor of Medicine (MD)
LIM YING QIAN – BSc (Hons) Information Technology (Computer Networking and Security)

Although the team did not advance to the final Top 5 winning teams, this achievement is nevertheless a significant accomplishment. They are grateful for the opportunity to represent Sunway University on an international platform and compete alongside students from leading universities around the world.

The interdisciplinary team, comprising four medical students and one student from the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, developed an AI-powered platform designed to predict climate-driven disease outbreaks before they spread. The proposed solution delivers early warnings to both connected urban centres and offline rural communities through appropriate and accessible communication channels, helping to enhance preparedness and safeguard public health.

Being recognised among the Top 10 Excellent Team is a testament to the team's innovation, dedication, collaborative spirit, and commitment to addressing global challenges through technology.

Congratulations once again to Lim Ying Qian and the entire team on this outstanding achievement. We are proud of your accomplishment and look forward to your continued success.

Congratulations to Faculty of Engineering and Technology students and team on their outstanding achievement of being crowned Grand Champion at HackMY IoT 2026, held from 19-20 September 2026 at Monash University Malaysia.

HackMY IoT 2026 was a demanding 36-hour Internet of Things (IoT) hackathon, challenging participants to develop and demonstrate fully functional solutions within a limited timeframe.

Competing in Track 1: Smart Agriculture & Environmental Monitoring, the team successfully tackled eight technical challenges involving both hardware and software development. Their solution incorporated system integration, sensor technologies, automation, monitoring systems, and software implementation.

Following their impressive performance, the team was named Track 1 Champion and advanced to the final round, where champions from all three tracks presented their innovations to the Grand Jury for consideration of the overall championship title.

After a highly competitive final presentation, the team was announced as the Grand Champion of HackMY IoT 2026.

The winning team comprised a collaborative group of students from Sunway University and Universiti Malaya:

Koay Yun Sheng - Bachelor of Mechatronic Engineering (Robotics) with Honours, Sunway University
Amberly Teoh Ke Wei - BSc (Hons) in Computer Science, Sunway University
Jas Shan Senggani – Electrical Engineering, Universiti Malaya
Chew Hao Yang – Mechanical Engineering, Universiti Malaya

What makes this achievement particularly remarkable is that the competition required participants not only to propose innovative ideas, but also to develop a working prototype, address real-world challenges, justify technical decisions, and demonstrate practical implementation. These aspects formed key criteria in the judging process.

The hackathon was organised by MyEvolution, La French Tech Malaysia, and the IEM Monash Students Section, with support from Monash University Malaysia and MyIoTA.

This achievement reflects the innovation, technical excellence, teamwork, and perseverance of our students in solving real-world challenges through engineering and technology.

Congratulations once again to the entire team on this remarkable accomplishment. We wish them continued success in their future endeavours.
