Please join us in congratulating our Year 2 Engineering students emerged as 2nd Runner-Up at the Universiti Malaya Civil Engineering Competition 2026: EcoGregate Bowl, held on 16 May 2026. The competition involved participating teams from local universities as well as international teams from Hong Kong, Indonesia, Thailand, Bangladesh, Taiwan, and the Philippines. The students demonstrated excellent performance in both their video presentation and technical report throughout the competition.

The students involved are:

We also extend our sincere appreciation to the team advisors, Prof. Ir. Mo Kim Hung and Ts. Dr Tan Tee How, for their time, commitment, and guidance in supporting the students throughout the preparation process.

Despite the Civil Engineering Lab not yet being operational for student use, the team showed remarkable commitment and perseverance. With the support of Master Materials Manufacturing Sdn Bhd, they travelled to Balakong every 1–2 days per week over approximately two months to prepare samples and conduct testing.

Congratulations once again to the students and their academic mentors on this commendable achievement.

Please join us in congratulating our Bachelor of Chemical Engineering with Honours students, for their outstanding victory at the EDMAT-47 Makerthon, hosted by the Engineering Society of Universiti Malaya (ESUM)!

This year’s theme, Medineer: Build. Innovate. Elevate., challenged participants to unite engineering and medicine to solve real-world problems. Through rapid prototyping and smart technology, our students competed against 18 teams from various universities, including international participants, to secure the CHAMPION title!

Our students rose to the challenge of creating impactful solutions designed for everyday Malaysians, contributing to a more resilient future.

Congratulations to our Bachelor of Mechatronic Engineering (Robotics) with Honours Year 2 student — Koay Yun Sheng and team for achieving 3rd place at the B Academics B Corp Case Competition!

Competing against 60+ teams worldwide, the team advanced to the Top 6 finals, where they delivered a live pitch and secured their place on the podium.

The competition challenged participants to develop practical and sustainable solutions for andCo Hospitality, a B Corp hotel group, balancing environmental goals with customer experience — and the team rose to the occasion with impactful, cost-effective ideas.

Please join us in congratulating our Bachelor of Chemical Engineering with Honours Year 3 students — Ng Cheong Yi, Tresa Au Wen Xin, and Taa Qi Hang — on their excellent achievement at An Engineering Challenge (AEC) 2026!

Organised by the Chemical Engineering Undergraduate Club (CEUC), University of Malaya, the Technical Case Study competition was held on 18 April 2026 at University of Malaya (UM) and saw participation from 35 teams. We are proud to share that our students emerged as First Runner-Up 🥈 in this highly competitive event.

Their project, “Zero Discharge in the Textile Industry in Malaysia,” focused on resource recovery and carbon mitigation strategies, contributing towards Net Zero goals and sustainable green industry practices. This accomplishment reflects their strong technical skills, teamwork, and dedication to engineering solutions for a sustainable future.

We also extend our heartfelt appreciation to the team advisors, Ir. Dr Yoon Li Wan and Ir. Dr Ayu Haslija Abu Bakar from the School of Engineering, for their invaluable guidance and support.

Congratulations to Prof. Ker Pin Jern for being featured as our Researcher of the Week!

Prof. Ker’s research focuses on renewable energy systems, electric vehicle (EV) integration, and artificial intelligence applications for energy and agriculture. His recent work highlights the potential of Vehicle-to-Building (V2B) and Building-to-Vehicle (B2V) systems, demonstrating how EV batteries can deliver cost-effective, low-carbon energy solutions for solar-integrated buildings under Malaysian and ASEAN conditions.

Recognised among the World’s Top 2% Scientists by Stanford University for four consecutive years (2022–2025), Prof. Ker has an outstanding record of high-impact publications, patents, keynote lectures, and research leadership at both national and international levels.
