Tianzi Mountains 🇨🇳 - The wonderland that inspired "The world of Avatar"

🏔 The Tianzi Mountains were formed from quartz sandstone of 400 million years ago through the intermittent rising of the crust for 2 million years. The geological formation belongs to the "New Cathaysian" tectonic system.

⚒ About three billion years ago, the place was a large patch of ocean. After a series of geological changes including Himalayan and Neotectonic movements, the bottom of ocean rose out of the surface, and the quartzite sandstone pillars and peaks took shape after the gradual cutting, eroding and crumbling of Nature for millions of years. They were once sedimentary rocks growing beneath the waters of an ancient ocean, which ultimately became quartz sandstones. Running water eroded the near level quartz sandstone along the vertical net joints.

🌏 Today, the layer of quartz rocks as old as 380 million years old, as thick as 500 or 600 meters, caps the Tianzi Mountain. The several high steep stone peaks erecting on the ground with precipitous four walls and appearances is nothing short of the secret workings of nature.

The American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG) and European Association of Geoscientists and Engineers (EAGE) of Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP) are organising Asia Geoscience Student Conference & Exhibition (AGSCE). This event will be hosted by UTP itself and is scheduled to be on 29th to 30th October 2018.

AGSCE with the theme " _Fueling Geosciences, Mapping Careers_ " is a unique platform to exchange and present innovative ideas for students of geology, geophysics and earth sciences around the Asia-Pacific region.

We invite all students to participate in the abstract submission.
Deadline of abstract submission: 15 July 2018, 23:59 (GMT +08:00 Malaysia Time)
