UTM continues to strengthen strategic international partnerships through its collaboration with The Amjad & Suha Besisu Foundation, with a shared commitment to expanding higher education opportunities for Palestinian students.

The partnership has progressed from institutional commitment to tangible impact, following the signing and exchange of the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA), which has since enabled 10 Palestinian undergraduate students to pursue their studies at UTM through full scholarships funded by the Foundation.

Building on this achievement, the latest strategic discussions explored the next phase of collaboration, including:

🔹 Scholarship expansion — The Foundation has expressed its commitment to support at least 20 Palestinian students annually for Undergraduate and Master’s studies at UTM.

🔹 *AMJAD–UTM–UK Student Exchange Programme

The proposed expansion moves the partnership beyond scholarship provision towards a broader Malaysia–Palestine–UK student mobility ecosystem, creating new pathways for academic exposure, international experience and global engagement.

The Foundation was represented by CEO Mr Steven Turner and Executive Officer Ms Yasmin, while UTM was led by Prof. Dr. Mohd Shafry Mohd Rahim, Vice-Chancellor of UTM, with Prof. Ts. Dr. Intan Zaurah, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic & International).

From UTM International’s perspective, this partnership reflects our commitment to building international collaborations that are strategic, purpose-driven, outcome-focused and scalable.

Bringing UTM to the World. Bringing the World to UTM.

LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM, 16 September 2026 — Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) has reaffirmed its strategic partnership with Imperial College London through the signing of a five-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). This milestone commemorates a longstanding relationship between the two institutions spanning over 15 years.

Building upon renewed engagement initiated in 2023, both institutions have significantly deepened their academic and research collaboration. Joint activities have yielded tangible outcomes across student mobility programmes, international internships, and academic staff attachments, alongside collaborative research in Chemical Engineering, Carbon Capture, Artificial Intelligence, and Sustainable Engineering.

The renewed agreement establishes an enhanced institutional framework designed to expand academic cooperation, joint research initiatives, knowledge exchange, and global talent development—transitioning from project-based collaborations toward an integrated and enduring partnership.

The agreement was formally signed by the Vice-Chancellor of UTM, Professor Dr. Mohd Shafry Mohd Rahim, and the Provost of Imperial College London, Professor Peter Haynes, in the presence of senior academic leaders and representatives from both universities. The partnership is further underpinned by active academic and alumni networks, notably featuring Professor Jerry Heng—a distinguished UTM alumnus currently at Imperial College London—along with academic colleagues whose sustained contributions have been instrumental to this connection.

This strategic alignment underscores UTM’s commitment to cultivating high-impact global partnerships that generate transformative opportunities for students, scholars, and researchers.

From collaboration to strategic partnership — shaping the next chapter through trust, continuity, and shared ambition.
