Namibia University of Science and Technology - NUST joined global higher education leaders at the Times Higher Education (THE) World Academic Summit 2026 in Cape Town, held under the theme “Knowledge, Justice and Futures: Universities in the Age of Intelligence.”

Representing NUST were Ms. Nashilongo Gervasius, Director: Corporate Engagement, Partnerships and Internationalisation, and Dr Yrika Maritz, Director: Strategy and Institutional Planning.
The summit was hosted on African soil for the first time in the Summit’s history and the gathering provided an important platform for reflecting on the future of universities and the role of knowledge, research, innovation and partnerships in shaping more inclusive and sustainable societies.

The participation comes at an important moment for NUST. In the 2026 THE Impact Rankings, NUST retained its position as Namibia’s leading university for impact, while improving its global standing from the 1501+ band in 2025 to 1001–1500 in 2026. 👏

As Namibia’s premier technological university, NUST approaches internationalisation as a strategic driver of institutional growth, technological advancement and national development. Through purposeful, reciprocal partnerships, NUST seeks to advance collaborative research, strengthen teaching and learning, expand global opportunities for students and academics, and translate shared knowledge into practical solutions for Namibia and beyond.

As NUST continues to grow its global footprint, the ambition is clear: from visibility to influence, from partnerships to measurable outcomes, and from global engagement to meaningful impact.

NUST 🇳🇦 meets ECUST 🇨🇳

Recently, Namibia University of Science and Technology - NUST representatives engaged with the East China University of Science and Technology (ECUST) in Shanghai to explore potential areas of collaboration, including projects in Chemical Engineering and student exchange opportunities.

The engagement provided an opportunity to identify areas of mutual interest and establish academic links between the two institutions.

The NUST team comprised of Prof Harmony Musiyarira - Executive Dean: Faculty of Engineering and the Built Environment, and Dr Veikko Shalimba - Associate Dean: Faculty of Engineering and the Built Environment, together with Kuda Brandt - Manager of Corporate Communications and Marketing. The ECUST International Relations office was represented by Zhouxi Gao.

While the two universities are geographically far apart, education continues to connect institutions and create opportunities across borders. 🌍

Strengthening Ties: NUST & DUT Deepen Partnership at SANORD 🤝🇳🇦🇿🇦

On the sidelines of the SANORD Conference in Windhoek, delegations from the Namibia University of Science and Technology - NUST and the Durban University of Technology (DUT) met to deepen their growing partnership and identify opportunities for collaboration in research, innovation and internationalisation.

The engagement provided an opportunity to explore shared research interests, strengthen institutional linkages and advance mutually beneficial collaboration between the two institutions, contributing to stronger higher education partnerships across Southern Africa.

Welcomed warmly by Prof Colin Stanley, Ms Valerie Garises, and Ms Jordaania Andima, a Norwegian delegation comprised of Ms Juni Solbraekke, Deputy Head of Mission, Ms Kjersti Lie Holster, Honorary Consul of the Republic of Namibia and Ms Camilla Roessaak, Senior Adviser recently visited the NUST's Department of Digital Arts and Animation.
The delegation was met with a brief institutional overview, followed by a guided tour of selected NUST facilities, including the High-Tech Transfer Plaza Select (HTTPS), the Artificial Intelligence and Robotics Accelerator Lab, and the Department of Digital Arts and Animation.
NUST highly values its international partnerships and remains committed to strengthening collaboration that creates opportunities for our students and staff, advances research and
innovation, supports skills development, and contributes meaningfully to Namibia's socio-economic development.

NUST sincerely appreciate the Norwegian delegation's time and engagement and look forward to a constructive and productive preparatory visit.

It’s a wrap! 🎓🤝🌍

This picture symbolises the end of a week-long engagement between TUBAF’s TU Bergakademie Freiberg's Institute of Mining and Specialised Civil Engineering and Namibia University of Science and Technology - NUST’s Department of Civil, Mining and Process Engineering.

The week provided an opportunity to explore how we can deepen our strategic partnership, particularly in the area of emergency medical services within the mining sector, while also advancing discussions on the finalisation of Winter Semester student mobility.

We also had the opportunity to celebrate the journey ahead through the Delegation of the European Union to Namibia’s Erasmus+ Programme send-off event.

A productive week of knowledge exchange, collaboration and strengthening partnerships that create meaningful opportunities for our students, academics and the broader mining sector.
