The world of work is continuously evolving, and with it comes the need for professionals to understand how to adapt to this changing landscape. Against this backdrop, Nile University of Nigeria hosted The PIVOT, a networking and career development event designed to help young professionals navigate the realities of professional growth.

Themed “Reinventing Yourself in a Changing World,” the event brought together members of the University leadership and staff, industry professionals, key stakeholders and invited guests for meaningful conversations on career growth and development.

The event featured sessions and panel discussions with five speakers from diverse professional backgrounds, who shared insights on navigating and embracing change, starting afresh without losing the value of previous experiences, recognising and managing career fatigue, planning intentionally for the future and making informed decisions about one’s professional journey.

Attendees also had the opportunity to network one-on-one with the speakers and peers, while engaging in meaningful conversations and gaining valuable insights to inform their career decisions.

Events like this underscore Nile University’s commitment to extending learning beyond the classroom and creating platforms for learning, growth and meaningful connections.

Yesterday, Nile University of Nigeria hosted its 8th Inaugural Lecture, highlighting the growing role of advanced sensing technologies, artificial intelligence and predictive engineering in improving infrastructure safety, reliability and resilience.

Titled “Sensing the ‘Unsensable’: How Machines Whisper Their Secrets Before They Break,” the lecture was delivered by Professor Sadiq Thomas, Professor of Computer Engineering, whose research focuses on intelligent systems, non-destructive testing and innovative engineering solutions.

The lecture explored how modern technologies are transforming the way critical infrastructure is monitored and maintained. Through advanced sensing systems, machine learning and digital twin technologies, engineers can now identify hidden defects, predict potential failures and make informed decisions long before visible signs of damage appear.

One of the key messages from the session was the need to move beyond reactive maintenance towards predictive approaches that prioritise prevention over repair. By harnessing data and intelligent technologies, organisations can improve safety, reduce costs and extend the lifespan of infrastructure across sectors such as transport, aviation, energy and manufacturing.

The lecture also explored the growing convergence of engineering and artificial intelligence, demonstrating how research and innovation can contribute practical solutions to some of society’s most pressing challenges.

Overall, the event reflected Nile University’s commitment to advancing knowledge, fostering innovation and supporting research that delivers meaningful impact for industry, society and national development.
