NOUN VC Backs Ethical AI Integration in Google Partnership

The Vice-Chancellor of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Prof. Uduma Oji Uduma, has reaffirmed the university’s commitment to the ethical and responsible integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) into teaching, learning, research and administration, stressing that the technology should enhance human expertise rather than replace it.

Prof. Uduma stated this on Friday, October 16, 2026, at the opening of a two-day workshop on the practical application of Generative AI in teaching, learning, research and student support, organised by the university’s Directorate of Information and Communication Technology (DICT) in collaboration with Google Africa for Education.

Represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Technology, Innovation and Research, Prof. Christine Ofulue, the Vice-Chancellor said AI was reshaping higher education globally, creating new opportunities for academic delivery, research and institutional administration.

NOUN Team Proposes Technology-Driven Solution at WACREN Climate Lab

The National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) has proposed an innovative concept for addressing climate change challenges at the 2026 Women-in-WACREN (WiW) Climate Innovation Lab, where African women academics and innovators explored technology-driven solutions to environmental problems.

The four-day workshop, hosted by NOUN at its headquarters in Jabi, Abuja, from October 12 to 15, 2026, was organised by Women-in-WACREN to strengthen the capacity of African women to develop technological solutions to climate-related challenges.

The Vice-Chancellor of NOUN, Professor Uduma Oji Uduma, was represented at the opening ceremony by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Technology, Innovation and Research, Professor Christine Ofulue, who commended Women-in-WACREN for its initiative to harness digital innovation in tackling climate change.

“His Judgement is Impeccable” — NOUN VC Hails Felix Edoka at Okpo Centre Commissioning

The visionary Vice-Chancellor of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Prof. Uduma Oji Uduma, has revealed that standard due process was waived for the Okpo Community Study Centre in honour of Sir Felix Edoka.

The Vice-Chancellor stated this today at the epoch-making commissioning ceremony of the Okpo Community Study Centre at Okpo, headquarters of Olamaboro Local Government Area of Kogi State.

Sir Felix Edoka, JP, is the immediate past Registrar of NOUN.

In his address, Prof. Uduma said:

“The people here are of exceptional quality and impressive quantity. We have clear, standard, and well-defined steps we meticulously follow to establish a study centre. Most times, people fail to follow these due processes. We normally conduct a comprehensive checklist assessment before any inauguration.

For the special reason of Mr. Felix Edoka, I simply couldn’t say no, because of our long-standing, cordial and cherished relationship. I initially asked, are we really coming for a full commissioning or merely for an inspection?

I am here today because I owe Edoka that profound honour. I am truly happy to be here; his judgement is remarkably sharp and impeccable.”

The VC added that there is no doubt that the highest number of dedicated staff of the university are from Kogi State.

He further expressed profound gratitude to the entire Okpo community in general and, in particular, to the highly respected Chief of Army Staff for his immense support in assisting the community with the renovation of the dilapidated facility.

“We have come to commission it today, and after this commissioning, we will return shortly for a formal and total takeover, which I strongly believe will be very soon,” Uduma concluded.

Vice-Chancellor Says ODL is Future of Mass Literacy in Nigeria

In a bold demonstration of its unwavering mandate of providing quality, cost-effective and flexible education for all Nigerians, the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) is set to inaugurate its new Community Study Centre at Okpo in Kogi State.

The inauguration is scheduled to hold tomorrow, Friday, 16th October 2026 at Okpo, Kogi State.

Announcing the development, the Vice-Chancellor NOUN, Prof. Uduma Oji Uduma, stated that the establishment of the Okpo Centre is a strategic move aimed at broadening inclusivity and significantly improving access to quality tertiary education through the Open and Distance Learning (ODL) mode.

Prof. Uduma emphasized that if Nigeria is to truly achieve its ambitious target of mass literacy and educational emancipation, concerted efforts must be deliberately channeled by all stakeholders towards strengthening the ODL system.

According to him, the ODL model, as efficiently and excellently exemplified by NOUN over the years, has consistently proven beyond doubt that it remains the future of education in Nigeria.

“NOUN is not just a university, we are the catalyst for an inclusive, borderless learning revolution,” the VC affirmed.

Newly admitted students of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) have been urged to embrace discipline, commitment and determination as they begin their academic journey at the university.

The call was made during orientation programmes organised for students admitted for the 2026_2 academic session at the Wuse II Study Centre and the Special Study Centre, Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Gwagwalada, Abuja, Federal Capital Territory.

At the Wuse II Study Centre, the orientation programme brought together newly admitted undergraduate and postgraduate students to familiarise them with the requirements of studying in an open and distance learning (ODL) environment.

Bauchi Centre Director Urges Fresh Students to Embrace ODL Opportunities

The Director of the Bauchi Study Centre, National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Dr. Habibu Tijjani, has urged newly admitted students to maximise the opportunities offered by the university’s Open and Distance Learning (ODL) system to achieve academic success.

Tijjani gave the advice while welcoming fresh students to the 2026 Orientation Programme organised by the study centre.

He explained that the orientation was designed to formally introduce the new students to the university’s academic system, noting that registration and matriculation were important stages in their academic journey.

Dr. K**a gave the assurance while assuming office, outlining prompt resolution of students’ complaints, staff capacity development, improvement of centre facilities and increased enrolment as key priorities of his administration.

He charged staff to embrace teamwork, professionalism and proactive service delivery, noting that the study centre remains the major interface between the university and its students.

NOUN Trains Kaduna Staff School Teachers on Inclusive Education, New Curriculum

The Centre for Human Resource Development (CHRD) of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) has organised a two-day capacity-building workshop for teachers of the NOUN Staff School, Kaduna, to strengthen their teaching skills and prepare them for the implementation of Nigeria’s 2025 education curriculum.

The Director of CHRD, Dr. Amos Iliya, stated this at the opening ceremony of the workshop, themed “Inclusive Pedagogy and Assessment in the Classroom.”

Dr. Iliya described the training as timely, noting that the school was entering a new phase with the implementation of the 2025 education curriculum and the commencement of Basic 7.

He said these developments required teachers to update their knowledge, teaching methods, lesson-planning techniques and assessment practices.

He observed that it had been a long time since a comprehensive capacity-building workshop was organised for the Staff School, stressing that the teaching profession was dynamic and required continuous professional development.

According to him, changing educational expectations, curriculum requirements, learner characteristics, instructional technologies and assessment methods make regular training essential for teachers to refresh their knowledge, reflect on their practices and acquire new competencies.

Gombe Students Donate Learning, Sanitation Materials to Study Centre

Students of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Gombe Study Centre, have donated educational and sanitation materials to the centre as part of their Community Development Project.

The gesture reaffirms their commitment to community service and institutional development.

The donated items, which include whiteboards, markers, dustbins and other useful materials, are expected to enhance teaching and learning while improving the general environment of the study centre.

As part of the initiative, the students also presented an Award of Excellence to the DES 303 Course Coordinator, Dr. Grace Hassan Gagare, in recognition of her dedication, guidance and commitment to student development.

Speaking during the presentation, the leader of Group 2, Mr. Andrew Bala Philbel, said the initiative was designed to give back to an institution that had contributed significantly to the students’ academic and personal growth.

Kaduna Centre Cascades Training to Boost Staff Efficiency, Learner Support

The Director of the Kaduna Study Centre of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Prof. Andrew Agbon, has emphasised the importance of cascading staff training to strengthen academic administration, institutional governance and technology-driven service delivery in line with the vision of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Uduma Oji Uduma.

Agbon stated this in an interview with NOUN News during a training session titled “Strengthening Academic Administration, Institutional Governance and Technology-Driven Service Delivery at Study Centres” in Kaduna.

He explained that the initiative was designed to make study centres more learner-focused and transform them into one-stop service points where students can access the support and resources they need for a satisfactory learning experience.

According to him, the training also seeks to sensitise staff to the Vice-Chancellor’s vision and encourage them to work collaboratively towards achieving the University’s mission and objectives.
