Following the annulment of the historic June 12, 1993 elections, his firm stance against tyranny earned him multiple detentions, a testament to his unwavering commitment to democracy and good governance.

On Wednesday, 8th October, 2025, the SUG Senate President, University of Abuja, Senator Chukwuebuka Godsfavour , led a delegation of principal officers on a courtesy visit to Senator Shehu Sani at his Abuja office. In his characteristic warmth and humility, the Senator shared invaluable words of wisdom, urging the young leaders to engage actively in governance and decision-making, the sure path to becoming the leaders of tomorrow. He also pledged his unwavering support to their vision of student leadership and national development.
