2027 EXAMS: NECO MAY HOLD BEFORE WAEC AS PROPOSED DATES EMERGE

A proposed timetable for the 2027 national examinations has placed the NECO SSCE ahead of the WAEC WASSCE.

The proposed dates were discussed during a meeting held on 30 September 2026 between the Minister of State for Education, examination bodies and representatives of private schools.

According to the proposed timetable:

β€’ JAMB UTME: 15–25 March 2027
β€’ NECO SSCE: 1 April–14 May 2027
β€’ WAEC WASSCE: 11 May–18 June 2027
β€’ NABTEB: June–July 2027
β€’ NBAIS: June–July 2027

If confirmed by the examination bodies, NECO SSCE will start before WAEC WASSCE in 2027.

However, these dates are still proposed and have not been officially confirmed by the respective examination bodies. Registration dates and result-release dates are also yet to be announced.

75% TRCN-QUALIFIED TEACHERS REQUIREMENT

The meeting also proposed that schools seeking approval to serve as examination centres must have at least 75% of their teachers TRCN-licensed by 11 December 2026.

The requirement will be verified, and schools that meet the condition will have their details uploaded to the designated registration portal.

Schools that do not meet the requirement may not be approved as examination centres.

More details are expected to be released once the relevant authorities confirm the arrangements.

NAUS, NANCES AND NAPS COMMEND E-DON, CALL FOR EXPANSION TO UNIVERSITIES AND POLYTECHNICS

The National Association of University Students (NAUS), National Association of Nigerian Colleges of Education Students (NANCES) and National Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPS) have commended the Electronic Education Initiative (E-DON) as an important development in Nigeria's education sector.

The student bodies made this known during a joint press conference, where they discussed issues affecting students and tertiary education in Nigeria.

They said E-DON can help improve digital teaching and learning through virtual live interactive classrooms, while also giving Nigerian students and lecturers opportunities to connect with global education partners.

The student leaders called on the National Universities Commission (NUC) to adopt the initiative in universities, they also appealed to the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) and the Committee of Rectors to extend E-DON to polytechnics across the country.

They further suggested that E-DON should be extended to at least one lecture hall in every department of tertiary institutions to give more students access to digital and interactive learning.

The initiative uses educational technology, including 3D animation simulation software and QR interactive Smartboards, to support modern teaching and learning.

The student bodies also appealed to state governments to address disputes involving COEASU, ASUU and ASUP in state-owned institutions, noting that prolonged strikes affect students and the education system.

ATAPOLY Bauchi: New Upgrading Programme from Ordinary Diploma to National Diploma and Result Improvement Scheme
Abubakar Tatari Ali Polytechnic (ATAPOLY Bauchi), under the Directorate of Preliminary Studies and Knowledge Alternatives, has introduced an important new programme β€” the upgrading of Ordinary Diploma (OND) to National Diploma (ND), as well as a result improvement scheme for candidates who graduated with a Pass grade.
Applicants who possess an Ordinary Diploma in any of our accredited courses now have the opportunity to upgrade their certificate to a National Diploma (ND) by undergoing just two semesters of study. However, only candidates from government-approved institutions are eligible to apply.
Sales of application forms will commence from 16th February to 30th March 2026. The cost of the form is ₦3,000 only, and lectures will begin immediately after the commencement of form sales, Insha Allah.
Furthermore, candidates who completed their National Diploma with a Pass grade now have the opportunity to improve their results. This new arrangement allows such candidates to undergo two semesters (one academic year) to upgrade their results to Lower Credit, Upper Credit, or Distinction, depending on their performance and effort.
Both programmes will officially begin in the 2025/2026 Academic Session. Interested applicants are advised to visit the Directorate of Preliminary Studies and Knowledge Alternatives within the Polytechnic campus to obtain their application forms.
This is a great opportunity for anyone who wishes to enhance their academic qualification and increase the value of their certificate. Do not miss this chance.
For further enquiries, please contact the Director of Preliminary Studies, Malam Auwal Lamido on 08035972742.
May Allah grant us success. Ameen.
