World Bank, Bauchi Governor Commission Mega Greenhouse and Science Laboratory at Bauchi College of Agriculture.

Bauchi State Governor Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed and The World Bank ACReSAL Task Team Leader, Dr. Joy Iganya Agene, commissioned a mega greenhouse and a plant, soil and water science laboratory at the Bauchi State College of Agriculture. The two facilities were renovated and upgraded by the Bauchi State Project Management Unit of the Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) Project.

Speaking at the event, the Governor commended the World Bank for supporting the revival of a major facilities at the College that will serve as a reference centre for testing the quality of core environmental components of water, soil and plants and the greenhouse a Center of Excellence . describing it as a milestone in the state’s drive for agricultural research and economic diversification.

The governor added that the support from the world bank is timely, "We participated in this, and it is a kind of pleasant contest between sub-nationals. And we are doing it with knowledge, with achievement,” Governor Mohammed said. He thanked the ACReSAL team for its confidence in Bauchi and praised the leadership of the Bauchi SPMU for demonstrating capacity and commitment.

The governor recalled that the facility was first built by former Governor, Dr. Ahmed Adamu Mu’azu in 1999, but later fell into dispair Now, we humbly say it is during our tenure that it is coming back through the World Bank, which makes it very auspicious, He said sustainability and revenue generation are critical to its long-term impact and pledged to ensure the duplication of these facilities across the various senatorial zones in the state. BAUCHI STATE COLLEGE OF AGRICULTURE RETRAINS STAFF TO IMPROVE EFFICIENCY.

The Bauchi State College of Agriculture has organised its first ever in-house retraining workshop for academic staff as part of efforts to improve efficiency, productivity and the quality of teaching in the institution.

Speaking at the opening of the workshop, the Registrar of the College, Alhaji Kabir Ali Kobi, described the training as a milestone in the institution's history.

He said the programme was designed to refresh the knowledge and skills of both newly recruited and existing academic staff on their duties and responsibilities, teacher-student relationships, effective teaching methodologies and other key aspects of academic service.

Alhaji Kabir Ali Kobi noted that the college remains a household name in agricultural education in Nigeria, stressing that such training programmes would help sustain its reputation in excellence.

He added that the resource persons were drawn from within the institution, including pioneer Chief Lecturer, Dr. Idi Sa'idu, and Malam Ahmed Chiroman Bununu, whose wealth of experience would benefit participants.

In his opening remarks, the Provost of the College, Dr. Ahmed Isa Ahmed, said continuous staff development is one of the most effective ways of enhancing knowledge, professionalism and exposure. He explained that the management introduced the workshop after identifying areas requiring improvement in the delivery of academic responsibilities.

Dr. Ahmed Isa urged the participants to remain committed throughout the training and take full advantage of the experience and expertise of the facilitators.

Meanwhile, the management of the college also expressed its condolences over the death of the institution's pioneer Bursar, Alhaji Lamaran Muhammad Gidado.

The management described the late Bursar as a dedicated administrator whose contributions to the growth of the college and Bauchi State would remain unforgettable, and prayed for Allah to forgive.

The Provost, Bauchi State College of Agriculture, Bauchi, Dr Ahmed Isah Ahmed on behalf of the Governing Council, Management, Staff and entire students of the College rejoice with His Excellency, Sen. Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, CON, FNIPR (Kauran Daular Usmaniyya), the Executive Governor of Bauchi State, the Government and good people of the State on the nation's 27 years of uninterrupted Democracy.

There is no doubt that since the assumption of office as the State Chief Executive in the past Seven (7) years, His Excellency, Sen. Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed has shown total commitment in turning around all sectors of human endeavour, in particular tertiary education.

The intervention of the State Government towards the repositioning of the Bauchi State College Agriculture in particular, hitherto neglected by previous administrations has demonstrated the desire and commitment of Government to ensure the success of tertiary institutions in the State.

The need for increased investment in greenhouse agro-business has been emphasized as part of efforts to boost food production, tackle climate challenges and create employment opportunities for youths in the country.

Malam Nuhu Abdullahi, Head of the Greenhouse Unit at the Bauchi State College of Agriculture, made the remark while speaking to Eagle Radio Bauchi.

Malam Abdullahi explained that the greenhouse project was initiated during the administration of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, but was reconstructed and upgraded by the Bauchi State Government in collaboration with the Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscape Project in Bauchi.

According to him, the greenhouse facility, which is regarded as the largest in the entire North-East region of Nigeria, plays a major role in the cultivation of perishable agricultural produce under controlled conditions.

He noted that the greenhouse system allows crops to grow in a more protected environment, thereby reducing the effects of harsh weather conditions, pests and diseases often associated with open-field farming.

Malam Abdullahi further disclosed that each greenhouse unit has the capacity to produce over 300 kilograms of vegetables and other perishable produce during harvest seasons, adding that the initiative can provide sustainable employment opportunities for many youths and women in the state.

In the same vein, the Director of Green-Tech Visionary Enterprise Limited, developers of the Naija Farm Management System, Mr Umar Rabiu Oyakhilome, identified climate change as one of the major challenges affecting agricultural production and crop survival across many parts of the country.

Mr. Oyakhilome explained that the company ains to design modern technological solutions aimed at improving greenhouse management and enhancing productivity.
