2023: 2 Popular Southern Christian Politicians Who Atiku May Choose As Running Mate
A new twist unfolded on Tuesday in regards to the 2023 presidential race, after a former vice-president, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar paid an unexpected visit to Nyesom Wike, the Governor of Rivers state, who is also known to be a major political influencer within the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
The PDP presidential candidate in 2019 election, Atiku, alongside some PDP bigwigs including a former Kogi Senator -Dino Melaye, visited Wike in Port Harcourt, Rivers state to discuss some salient political issues as regards 2023 elections.
Although, Atiku has not publicly declared his intention to vie for next presidency, however, his political moves coupled with the surge in support groups surfacing on his behalf, there are strong indications that the former vice-president, may pick up PDP's presidential nomination form when the time comes.
It is believed that Atiku's visit to Wike is likely to be a continued efforts by the former vice-president to rally support for himself ahead of his perceived presidential ambition within the PDP.
To this end, since religion plays an important role in Nigeria's political space and there's also need to balance the power sharing among regions, it is then required of Atiku -a Northern Muslim, to pick a Southern Christian prominent politician as his running mate, who would be capable of delivering massive votes for the party.
Similarly, a deep look into the PDP folds reveals that, among leading popular Southern Christian politicians, who has the political potential or influence to sway votes in favour of PDP if they're picked as running mate, are former Governor of Anambra state, Peter Obi and Nyesom Wike, Rivers state Governor.
