The Pan African University Life and Earth Sciences Institute (PAULESI) held a two-day capacity-building workshop for all staff on October 1–2, 2026, at Mitros Residences, Abeokuta, Ogun State. Themed Advancing Procurement Compliance via Policies and Leveraging Technology for Workplace Efficiency, the workshop featured sessions facilitated by Mr. Aleck Munhamo, Chief, Procurement Unit, African Union Commission, and Engr. Olalekan Okewale, ICT Officer, PAULESI.

Day one covered core AU procurement principles, internal controls, procurement planning, and the responsibilities of the Internal Procurement Committee, alongside practical sessions on using AI tools to boost workplace productivity. The Director, Prof. Mubo Sonibare, presented a Pep talk titled “Your Feelings, Your Strength”, emphasizing how to channel one's feelings in the right path to achieve maximum output. and staff also gave an update on their Project Action Plans.
We wrapped up on day two with a memorable team-bonding visit to the historic Olumo Rock, where staff climbed the historic rock, explored its caves, and enjoyed a panoramic view of Abeokuta from the summit.

The Pan African University Life and Earth Sciences Institute (PAULESI), University of Ibadan, proudly commemorated African Union Day 2026 under the theme “Assuring Water Sustainability and Safe Sanitation Systems to Achieve the Goals of Agenda 2063.” The celebration brought together staff, students, and stakeholders to reflect on critical development issues facing the continent while promoting the ideals of African unity, leadership, and sustainable development.

The event featured engaging student presentations, cultural exhibitions, traditional dances, sporting activities, and the Mr. and Miss PAULESI Pageant, all of which showcased the richness and diversity of African cultures. The celebration provided a platform for learning, interaction, and appreciation of Africa’s heritage while inspiring participants to contribute meaningfully to the realization of the African Union Agenda 2063.

On Wednesday August 19, 2026; a delegation from the Consulate General of Burkina Faso in Lagos paid a courtesy visit to the Pan African University Life and Earth Sciences Institute (Including Health and Agriculture), PAULESI, at the University of Ibadan, Nigeria. The visit was aimed at strengthening bilateral relations, assessing the welfare of Burkinabe students enrolled at the Institute, and exploring avenues for further collaboration.

The Burkina Faso Consulate General Delegation includes The Consulate General – Head of Delegation, Assistant to the Consulate General, Consular Attaché and Accountant of the Consulate General, Lagos.

NUC Grants Full Accreditation to Pan African University Life and Earth Sciences Institute's Postgraduate Programmes

In a landmark development for postgraduate education in Africa, the National Universities Commission (NUC) in Nigeria has officially accredited nine Master's degree and five PhD programmes offered by the Pan African University Life and Earth Sciences Institute (PAULESI), hosted at the University of Ibadan, Nigeria. The accreditation, effective from July 13, 2026, and announced on August 7, 2026, marks the culmination of years of strategic planning and a significant milestone in the Institute's journey toward academic excellence, continental relevance, and the realization of the African Union's Agenda 2063.

The newly accredited programmes span critical disciplines addressing Africa's developmental priorities across life sciences, earth sciences, health sciences, and agricultural sciences. The programmes that received full accreditation are Plant Breeding, Medicinal Plants Research and Drug Development, Petroleum Geoscience, Mineral Exploration, Vaccine Production and Quality Control, Avian Medicine, Reproductive Health Science, Sports Management and Policy Development, and Environmental Management.

This accreditation represents a defining moment for PAULESI, establishing the Institute as an independent, internationally recognized postgraduate institution capable of awarding its own degrees. The five-year validation affirms that the Institute meets and maintains the highest standards of postgraduate education, enhancing its reputation and attractiveness to top-tier students, faculty, and research partners from across Africa and beyond. The success of this accreditation extends to the entire Pan African University, strengthening the reputation of the African Union's flagship higher education initiative and demonstrating that PAU institutions can meet and exceed the rigorous standards of national accreditation bodies. This milestone also underscores the African Union Commission's commitment to quality education as a driver of continental development. With this accreditation, PAULESI is instrumental to the achievement of Agenda 2063; the African Union's transformative vision for the continent.

The 12th Matriculation Ceremony of PAULESI: Welcoming a New Generation of African Scholars

The Pan African University, Life and Earth Sciences Institute (including Health and Agriculture), hosted at the University of Ibadan, Nigeria, held its 12th Matriculation Ceremony on 6th August 2026. This landmark event formally enrolled eighty-one (81) students into eight (8) Master's degree programmes across the Institute. Prior to this ceremony, a total of eleven (11) cohorts had been matriculated, comprising eight hundred and ninety-eight (898) students, underscoring the Institute's growing contribution to Africa's higher education landscape over the years.

The Pan African University announced the 3rd Annual International Conference, a flagship gathering of the four Institutes, that unites researchers, policy-makers, industry leaders, development partners, students and alumni. This multidisciplinary forum promotes knowledge exchange, showcases African Union–funded research, and highlights Institute-led innovations that drive continental development in line with AU Agenda 2063. Anchored on the AU 2026 Theme of the Year "Assuring Sustainable Water Availability and Safe Sanitation Systems to Achieve the Goals of Agenda 2063"

PAULESI WELCOMES THE 2026/2027 COHORT

The Pan African University Life and Earth Sciences Institute (PAULESI), University of Ibadan, successfully hosted a two-day Orientation Programme for newly admitted students for the 2026/2027 Academic Session on 27th and 28th July 2026.

The orientation programme provided an opportunity for students from different African countries to become acquainted with the Institute, the University of Ibadan, and the expectations of postgraduate studies within the Pan African University system.

Throughout the two days, participants engaged in interactive sessions on student welfare and success strategies, library resources and research support, security and safety, healthy living, cultural diversity, gender issues, immigration procedures, financial management, entrepreneurship, extracurricular activities, and the PAULESI Centre of Excellence. Students also had the opportunity to interact with Institute management, University officials, alumni, and support staff.
The programme was designed to equip students with the knowledge, resources, and support systems needed to excel academically, professionally, and personally during their time at PAULESI. The orientation concluded with programme-specific interactive sessions coordinated by the respective academic departments.
