OSPOHAS Football Team Defeats OOU, Advances to GATIG 2026 Semi-Finals

The Ogun State Polytechnic of Health and Allied Sciences (OSPOHAS) male football team has secured a place in the semi-finals of the 2026 Gateway Tertiary Institutions Games (GATIG) after defeating Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU) in the quarter-final stage.

The OSPOHAS boys put up an impressive performance, displaying determination, teamwork and tactical discipline to overcome their university opponents and progress to the last four of the football competition.

Speaking after the victory, the Sports Director of OSPOHAS, Mr. Olumide Ajose, expressed appreciation to the Chairman of the Governing Council Asiwaju Kunle Kalejaye and the Rector Dr Rasaki Yinka Akinbo for their commitment and support towards the institution’s participation in the games.

He noted that their support has provided the team with the necessary encouragement and resources to compete effectively at the tournament, describing the participation as an important platform for showcasing the talents and sporting abilities of OSPOHAS students.

Mr. Ajose commended the players and technical team for their dedication and fighting spirit, urging them to remain focused as they prepare for the semi-final encounter.

The victory has further heightened excitement within the OSPOHAS contingent, with students and officials looking forward to another strong performance from the team as the competition progresses.

With a semi-final ticket secured, the OSPOHAS male football team will now turn its attention to the next challenge, with hopes of advancing to the final and bringing home the championship glory.

OSPOHAS Takes Sporting Ambition to GATIG 2026

The Ogun State Polytechnic of Health and Allied Sciences (OSPOHAS), Ilese-Ijebu, is gearing up to showcase its sporting talent as it joins other tertiary institutions across Ogun State for the 2026 Gateway Tertiary Institutions Games (GATIG).

The week-long sporting fiesta is scheduled to hold from Sunday, August 30 to Friday, September 5, 2026, in Abeokuta, bringing together students from tertiary institutions across the state to compete in different sporting events.

For OSPOHAS, the games present another opportunity for students to step beyond the classroom and demonstrate their abilities on the sporting field. Beyond competition, participation is expected to encourage teamwork, discipline, confidence, determination and healthy interaction among students.

The Polytechnic’s involvement in GATIG also underscores its commitment to the holistic development of its students, recognising sports and other extracurricular activities as important avenues for nurturing leadership, resilience, physical fitness and team spirit.

Leading the institution’s sporting delegation to the competition is the Director of Sports, Mr. Olumide Ajose, who will accompany the team to Abeokuta and provide leadership and support throughout the games.

As the countdown to the games continues, anticipation is building within the OSPOHAS community, with students and staff looking forward to seeing the Polytechnic’s representatives fly the institution’s flag proudly at GATIG 2026.

Ospohas Rector Felicitates with Muslims on the Occasion of Eid-el-Maulud

The Rector of Ogun State Polytechnic of Health and Allied Sciences (OSPOHAS), Ilese-Ijebu, Dr. Rasaki Yinka Akinbo, has felicitated with the Muslim community on the occasion of Eid-el-Maulud, commemorating the birth of Prophet Muhammad (SAW).

In his goodwill message, the Rector extended warm greetings to Muslim staff, students, their families and the entire Muslim Ummah, urging them to reflect on the values of peace, compassion, humility, love and tolerance exemplified by the life and teachings of the Prophet.

Dr. Akinbo encouraged members of the Polytechnic community to continue to promote peaceful coexistence, mutual respect and unity, noting that these values remain essential to building a harmonious and progressive society.

He also called on Muslims to use the occasion to strengthen their faith, demonstrate kindness to others and contribute positively to the development of their communities.

The Rector wished the Muslim faithful a peaceful and joyous Eid-el-Maulud celebration, praying for continued peace, prosperity and blessings for the Polytechnic, Ogun State and Nigeria.
