LIVESTOCK RESEARCH INSTITUTE SEEKS PARTNERSHIP TO BOOST YOUTH PARTICIPATION IN AGRICULTURE

The International livestock research Institute,ILRI has expressed its readiness to strengthen partnerships with Tai Solarin Federal University of Education to promote youth participation in agriculture and agribusiness, particularly through research, entrepreneurship, and livestock development.

The move comes amid concerns over the ageing population of farmers, with experts warning that nearly 80 per cent of farmers are above 60 years, a trend considered a threat to sustainable food production and agricultural development.

Speaking during a recent engagement with the Management of the University, members of the institute’s delegation highlighted the urgent need to transform agriculture into agribusiness to attract young people and make the sector more appealing, innovative and profitable.

The delegation, led by the Country Representative and Head of Dr Goke Amole, included experts in feed production, gender development and technology transfer.

According to the team, agriculture has evolved beyond subsistence farming into a business-driven sector capable of creating jobs and wealth for young people.

The institute, which was established about five decades ago, currently operates in 16 Countries offices across the globe, with 5 located in West Africa. Its Nigeria office, has existed for approximately 45 years and forms part of a network of 13 international research institutes spread across the world.
The Institute is sponsored by United States Agricultural International Development Agency, USAID.

Officials explained that the institute primarily focuses on research in the livestock industry and animal science, with emphasis on improving food systems, livestock productivity and sustainable agricultural practices.

As part of its youth-focused initiatives, the institute said students would be trained and encouraged to embrace entrepreneurship through practical agricultural innovations and exposure to agribusiness opportunities.

Among its major interventions is a project on the conversion of cassava peels into poultry and fish feed, a programme said to have commenced about 11 years ago and aimed at reducing waste while promoting affordable livestock feed production.

The institute also noted that insecurity in parts of the country has continued to affect agricultural activities, stressing the need for stronger collaboration among stakeholders to address challenges facing food production and rural livelihoods.

The partnership initiative, according to the institute, is expected to create opportunities for capacity building, research collaboration and practical training for students and young agripreneurs across the country.
In his response at the event, theViceChancellor, Prof. Samuel Ekundayo Oladipo ably represented by his Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration), Prof. Adekunle Adeogun, FISN commended the institute for deeming it fit to choose TASFUED as one of its partners assuring the International Livestock Research Institute of its readiness to work with any organisation that is ready to bring development, especially in transforming research into finished products that will benefit the town.

"We have about 50 hectares of farm land at Imaka village serving as our demonstration farm, what we are doing is to replicate the Songhai farm in the Republic of Benin to fulfill the Federal Government's vision for Nigerians to be self-sustaining in food production", he noted.

The Vice Chancellor also called for the revival of farm settlements across the nation to encourage youths to go into Agriculture instead of chasing the elusive white-collar jobs.

On the entourage of the institute were Dr Odekunle Temitope, a monogastric/ Gender Expert, Dr Adebayo Adebola a Seeding Expert; Dr Adekaye Adetayo, a senior Research Associate.
Prof. Timothy Olawumi, the Director of the Institute of Vocational Training and Research in Agriculture (IVOTRA), the Secretary of the Institute, Mr Kemi Adeiga amongst others were also present to receive the delegation.

GENDER JUSTICE MAY TAKE OVER A CENTURY WITHOUT STRUCTURAL
REFORMS.....university don warns

A Professor of Counselling Psychology, Toluwalope Koyejo-Ogunleye has warned that gender justice could take as long as 134 to 135 years to achieve globally unless deliberate structural reforms are implemented.

She made this submission while delivering the 40th inaugural lecture of Tai Solarin Federal University of Education, Ijagun, Ogun State.

Koyejo-Ogunleye stressed that entrenched cultural, religious and institutional barriers continue to hinder progress toward gender parity, particularly in Nigeria’s patriarchal society.

Speaking on the theme “The Straight and Narrow Way to Gender Justice: Counsellor’s Verdict,” the scholar described gender justice as a transformative process that goes beyond equality and equity to address systemic discrimination, violence and oppression against women. She noted that while gender equality focuses on equal opportunities, gender justice seeks to dismantle the structural and historical barriers that limit women’s full participation in society.

The Director of the institution's Directorate of Counselling and Human Development identified deep-rooted gender role socialisation as a major driver of inequality, explaining that societal expectations often position men as providers and decision-makers, while women are confined to caregiving roles. These norms, she said, are reinforced through family structures, schools, religion, media and workplace practices, thereby perpetuating imbalance across...Read more👉 https://tasued.edu.ng/gender-justice-may-take-over-a-century-without-structural-reforms-university-don-warns/

Prof. T. O. Koyejo-Ogunleye delivered the 40th Inaugural Lecture titled:

“The Straight and Narrow Way to Gender Justice: Counsellor’s Verdict.”

In her lecture, she addressed the realities of gender roles in society and the workplace, noting how women are sometimes unfairly perceived as unserious professionals for taking time off to care for their children, such as attending immunization appointments. She also emphasized the importance of shared parental responsibility, encouraging men to take paternity leave to support their wives and families after childbirth.

A powerful call for empathy, balance, and true gender justice.

OLADIPO ASSUMES DUTY AS TASFUED 6TH SUBSTANTIVE VICE CHANCELLOR
. ....positions TASFUED as top ranking University by 2031

The new Vice Chancellor, Prof Samuel Ekundayo Oladipo has assumed duties as the 6th substantive Vice Chancellor and the 3rd indigenous Vice Chancellor.

Prof. Oladipo, who assumed duty on the 5th of May, 2026, called on members of the University Community to support him in his mission to reposition the institution.
He traced the history of the institution from its days as Ogun State College of Education to Tai Solarin College of Education, Tai Solarin University of Education and finally to Tai Solarin Federal University of Education, describing the institution as a heritage from God that can never be destroyed.

He cited the instance where the institution would have been scrapped, but for the intervention of Almighty God and the good people of Ogun State.

The new Vice Chancellor disclosed that his doors remain wide open for suggestions on how to move TASFUED forward.

"To those who competed with me for the office, there is no victor or vanquish", he added.
He thereafter unveiled an ambitious five-year strategic plan to break into the top 25 Universities in Nigeria, top 100 in Africa, and top 3,000 globally by 2031.

The vision, tagged “TASFUED Vision (2026–2031)”, was presented by the new substantive Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Samuel Ekundayo Oladipo, following the institution’s adoption of federal status in 2025.

TASFUED is currently ranked between 55th and 72nd among Nigerian Universities, 446th in Africa, and beyond 6,000th globally, the University is banking on its newly unveiled STAR-WIN Agenda to drive what Prof. Oladipo described as a “defining moment” in the institution’s history.

The STAR-WIN Agenda is built on seven pillars;

* Sustainable funding and smart governance,
* Technology and digital transformation,
* Academic excellence and innovation,
Research productivity and global rankings, staff and student welfare,
* Infrastructure development, and strengthened national,
*Alumni, and International Relations.

Prof. Oladipo, a Professor of Guidance and Counselling, stated that the roadmap would pursue regular curriculum reviews aligned with global standards, new demand-driven programmes, Vocational training, and International accreditation.

While speaking on research, the former Dean, College of Specialised and Professional Education ( COSPED) promised internal seed grants, upgrades to Directorates, innovation hubs and stronger intellectual property policies.

The roadmap also plans to enhance staff incentives, expand housing and hostel facilities, provide subsidised transport and wellness programmes, while constructing new lecture halls and equipping laboratories to international standards.

TASFUED holds the distinction of being Nigeria’s first University of Education, the second in Africa, and the eighth globally under the specialised Formula 1–2–8 model.

The Vice-Chancellor expressed confidence that through institutional cohesion and strategic partnerships, the University would emerge by 2031 as a globally respected institution distinguished by academic excellence, digital innovation, and sustainable financing.

On hand, to receive Prof Oladipo were members of the University Management, the Provost, Postgraduate College, Deans of Colleges and Students' Affairs, Directors of Centres, Religious Leaders and the leadership of the Institution's Students' Union.
