President Tinubu Directs Seized EFCC Funds, Others to NELFUND

President Bola Tinubu has directed that all liquid funds recovered by the EFCC be channelled into the Nigerian Education Loan Fund, NELFUND, to support the education of Nigerian students.

The directive was announced after Wednesday's Federal Executive Council meeting in Abuja by the Minister of Education Tunji Alausa.

Alausa says Council also approved the directive by the president for the transfer of unclaimed dividends from the capital market trust fund and dormant account trust fund to NELFUND.

The Education Minister says the measures are aimed at strengthening NELFUND's financial capacity, with more than 1.2 million students currently benefiting from the scheme.

President Tinubu further directed the Ministers of Finance, Education, the Attorney General of the Federation and the Debt Management Office to work together to establish the legal framework for the transfer of the funds and unclaimed dividends to NELFUND.

NELFUND is the federal government's interest free student loan scheme, which supports tuition and student upkeep.

KWASUED Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Medinat Folorunso Salman, Receives Alumnus Award from University of Ilorin

The Vice-Chancellor of the Kwara State University of Education (KWASUED), Professor Medinat Folorunso Salman, has been honoured with a prestigious Alumnus Award by the University of Ilorin during a special Homecoming Celebration organised in honour of Professor Emeritus Is-haq Olanrewaju Oloyede, CON, FNAL.

The award was presented to Professor Salman at the special Homecoming Celebration held at the University of Ilorin, which brought together distinguished academics, university administrators, professionals, public figures and accomplished alumni to celebrate the remarkable contributions and enduring legacy of Professor Oloyede.

As a distinguished alumna of the University of Ilorin, Professor Salman's recognition reflects her remarkable accomplishments and contributions to the education sector, as well as her commitment to academic excellence and institutional development.

The honour is particularly significant as Professor Salman continues to make her mark in the Nigerian university system as the Pioneer Vice-Chancellor of KWASUED, where she has provided strategic leadership in laying the foundation of the young institution and advancing its vision of producing highly skilled and globally competitive graduates.

The event also featured the investiture of distinguished personalities, responses by the awardees and other activities celebrating the life, scholarship, leadership and contributions of Professor Emeritus Oloyede to education and national development.

The Alumnus Award further underscores Professor Salman's outstanding achievements and the enduring recognition of her contributions by her alma mater.

The Management of KWASUED and the entire University community warmly congratulate the Vice-Chancellor on this well-deserved recognition and celebrate her continued dedication to educational development, transformative leadership and academic excellence.

Adedimeji, Vice Chancellor of the African School of Economics, has described Professor Emeritus Is-haq Oloyede as an exemplary leader whose career is defined by integrity, competence, discipline, courage and selfless service. Speaking at his homecoming celebration at the University of Ilorin, Adedimeji highlighted Oloyede’s transformative contributions to UNILORIN and JAMB, particularly in technology, transparency, staff welfare and institutional reform, while urging future leaders to emulate his example.

37th CVCNU Annual General Assembly Kicks Off Today at UNILORIN

​The 37th Annual General Assembly Conference of the Committee of Vice-Chancellors of Nigerian Universities (CVCNU) was officially declared open today (August 18, 2026) at the University Auditorium, University of Ilorin.

​Centred on the theme “Building Resilient Universities for Nigeria,” the assembly convened Vice-Chancellors and key education stakeholders from across the nation to address institutional challenges and drive policy innovation.

​The conference was officially declared open on behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, by the Honourable Minister of State for Education, Professor Suwaiba Said Ahmad.

​As co-host, the University of Ilorin remains committed to driving national discourse aimed at strengthening the resilience and global competitiveness of Nigerian universities.

UNIVERSITY OF ILORIN HONOURS AL-HIKMAH UNIVERSITY FOUNDER, VICE-CHANCELLOR

The University of Ilorin has honoured the Founder and Vice-Chancellor of Al-Hikmah University at the homecoming celebration of Professor Emeritus Is-haq Olanrewaju Oloyede, OON, FNAL.

Alhaji Chief (Dr.) Abdulraheem Oladimeji, OFR, FNEAP, FSPSP, received an Award of Excellence, while Prof. Lateef Folorunsho Oladimeji was presented with the Distinguished Alumnus Award.

The recognitions celebrate their contributions to education, leadership and service.

The ceremony was also attended by the entire Management, Deans, Directors and members of staff of Al-Hikmah University, who joined in celebrating the achievements and recognition of the university’s distinguished leaders.
