COMMON INTERVIEW QUESTION — “WHY DO YOU WANT TO SERVE?”

🇳🇬 INTERVIEW PRACTICE: “WHY DO YOU WANT TO JOIN PUBLIC SERVICE?”

This question can test whether you have thought seriously about the responsibility involved.

Avoid giving an answer based entirely on:

💰 Salary
🎖️ Uniform
📱 Social status
👥 Pressure from friends

Instead, think about:

🤝 Service to the public
🇳🇬 Contribution to your country
📚 Your relevant skills and education
⚖️ Responsibility and discipline
🌱 Your desire to develop professionally

📌 Example approach:

“I am interested in public service because I want to use my abilities in a responsible way, contribute to society and continue developing professionally while serving the country.”

There is no need to copy this answer.

Your strongest answer is one that is truthful, clear and connected to your own motivation.

🎯 Interview preparation tip: Practise your answers aloud, but don’t memorise them like a speech. The goal is to communicate naturally and confidently.

🧠 COMMON INTERVIEW QUESTION — “WHY SHOULD WE CONSIDER YOU?”

🧠 INTERVIEW QUESTION TO PRACTISE

“Why should we consider you for this opportunity?”

This question isn’t an invitation to say:

❌ “Because I need a job.”
❌ “Because I know someone.”
❌ “Because I deserve it more than others.”

Instead, think about the value you can bring.

Your answer can highlight:

✅ Relevant knowledge or education
✅ Discipline and reliability
✅ Ability to work with others
✅ Willingness to learn
✅ Respect for rules and responsibilities
✅ Commitment to serving responsibly

📌 A simple approach:

“I believe I can contribute because I am disciplined, willing to learn, able to work with others and committed to carrying out responsibilities responsibly.”

Make the answer honest and personal.

Remember: confidence is good, but don’t exaggerate your abilities.

🎤 COMMON INTERVIEW QUESTION — “TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF”

🎤 ORAL INTERVIEW PREPARATION: “TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF”

This is one of the most common opening questions in interviews.

Don’t turn your answer into your entire life story. 😄

A simple structure is:

1️⃣ Introduce yourself
State your name and relevant background.

2️⃣ Mention your education or useful experience
Focus on things connected to the opportunity.

3️⃣ Highlight relevant strengths
For example: discipline, teamwork, communication or willingness to learn.

4️⃣ Explain your interest professionally
Tell the panel why you are interested in serving and contributing.

📌 Example:

“My name is ___ . I am a graduate of ___ . I am a disciplined and hardworking person who enjoys working with others and learning new things. I am interested in public service because I want to contribute positively to my community and serve my country.”

Don’t memorise someone else’s answer word for word.

Understand your own story and explain it naturally.

HOW TO ANSWER INTERVIEW QUESTIONS

🎯 ORAL INTERVIEW TIP: ANSWER THE QUESTION, NOT A DIFFERENT QUESTION

During an oral interview, listen carefully before answering. Don’t rush because you’re nervous.

Try this simple approach:

✅ Listen to the complete question.
✅ Take a short moment to think.
✅ Answer directly.
✅ Keep your explanation clear and organised.
✅ Give examples when appropriate.
✅ If you don’t understand, politely ask the interviewer to repeat the question.
✅ If you genuinely don’t know something, be honest rather than inventing an answer.

Remember: confidence doesn’t mean pretending to know everything.

A calm, honest and well-organised response can communicate maturity and professionalism.
