Tazkiyah University Hosts the 3rd Edition of UMMUN-NABI Counselling Forum
Tazkiyah University Kaduna has successfully hosted the 3rd Edition of the UMMUN-NABI Counselling Forum, a monthly lecture series organised by the Tazkiyah Educational Resource Centre (TERC) to strengthen the educational, intellectual and moral well-being of students. The forum, focused on the theme, “Navigating Societal and Religious Expectations: Building Identity, Well-Being and Purpose as a Female University Student,” which provided a valuable platform for students to reflect on the religious and societal expectations that influence their academic, personal and future decisions.
In his welcome and opening remarks, the Vice-Chancellor of Tazkiyah University, Professor Faruk Sarkinfada, welcomed the distinguished guest speaker, invited guests, directors, staff and students to the programme. The Vice-Chancellor emphasised the importance of creating an educational environment where female students can pursue academic excellence while maintaining sound moral values and a strong sense of responsibility. Professor Faruk Sarkinfada further appreciated TERC for sustaining the UMMUN-NABI Counselling Forum as a platform through which students can address contemporary challenges and receive guidance that supports their academic growth, personal development and moral formation.
The Guest Speaker, Director of the Counselling and Human Development Centre, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Professor Hadiza Ahmed Tukur, delivered an insightful and engaging lecture on the theme, addressing key issues surrounding the religious and societal expectations placed on female university students. Through a practical, interactive, challenging, humorous and impactful discussion, she engaged the students with relatable real-life situations, encouraging them to critically examine the expectations that influence their choices, identity and well-being. The session ultimately challenged the students to look beyond societal pressures, understand their responsibilities, protect their well-being and pursue their education and future aspirations with purpose, dignity and confidence.
In his recap and vote of thanks, the Secretary General of Tazkiyah Educational Resource Centre (TERC), Malam Mujtaba Muhammad appreciated Allah (SWT) for the success of the programme and expressed gratitude to the Vice-Chancellor, university management, the Guest Speaker, directors, staff, students and all other contributors to the success of the forum. The Secretary General, highlighted the major lessons from the lecture, particularly the need for students to distinguish authentic religious guidance from cultural expectations, build a balanced identity, safeguard their well-being and approach their education and future with purpose.
The programme also featured goodwill messages from the University’s representatives, who commended TERC for organising the counselling forum and emphasised the importance of continuous mentorship and guidance for students. Other highlights included inspiring poetry presentations, which added a creative and reflective dimension to the event, as well as an engaging question-and-answer session that enabled students to seek clarification and interact directly with the Guest Speaker on issues raised from the lecture. The 3rd Edition of the UMMUN-NABI Counselling Forum therefore concluded as an impactful and engaging gathering.
