ABCOAD TVET SCHOOL WELCOMES NEW INTAKE; Emphasises Skills and Punctuality.

Audu Bako College of Agriculture Dambatta (ABCOAD) Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) School has welcomed over 100 new students into the Federal Government TVET Cohort II programme with an orientation and induction ceremony held at the College.

Speaking as the keynote speaker, the Provost of the College, Dr. Hassan Ibrahim, urged the newly inducted students to demonstrate discipline, punctuality, dedication and commitment to the core values of the programme throughout their six-month training.

Dr. Ibrahim noted that ABCOAD was the only centre among the various accredited centres in the state granted the opportunity by the Federal Government to select its beneficiaries directly. He assured that the College would not abuse the confidence and opportunity entrusted to it.

He therefore encouraged the students to take their training seriously, remain punctual and maintain high moral standards, stressing that the programme was designed to equip them with practical skills that would enhance their employability and self-reliance.

Earlier in his remarks, the Dean, School of TVET, Dr. Muhyiddeen Yahya Musa, commended the tireless efforts of the Provost, Dr. Hassan Ibrahim, in securing full accreditation for the College’s TVET centre.

He described the accreditation as a significant milestone, particularly as it positions the College to facilitate the award of the National Skills Qualification (NSQ) Level II, a recognised skills certification.

Dr. Muhyiddeen congratulated the successful applicants and urged them not to take the opportunity for granted, noting that thousands of young people are waiting for similar opportunities to acquire relevant skill

He further stressed the importance of punctuality, explaining that students’ electronic attendance records would form part of the requirements for their monthly stipends.

In a vote of thanks, the Director of Academic Planning expressed delight over the successful commencement of the programme and congratulated the newly inducted students. He wished them a productive and successful training experience.

The ceremony was attended by the Establishment Secretary, Directors, Heads of Departments and other members of staff of the College.

WALI HAILS ABCOAD FOR NAMING WATER TREATMENT CENTRE AFTER HIM, HONOURS EX-MINISTER NANONO

Former Personal Assistant to the former Honourable Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Umar Nuhu Wali, has expressed profound gratitude to the management of Audu Bako College of Agriculture, Dambatta (ABCOAD), Kano State after the institution named its Water Treatment Centre in his honour and dedicated the Leather Enterprise Innovation Centre to former Minister, Alhaji Mohammed Sabo Nanono.

Wali described the gesture as a deeply humbling recognition, saying it reflects the College's enduring tradition of appreciating individuals whose commitment and contributions have helped advance its development.

In a statement, the former ministerial aide thanked the Provost, the College Management, Academic Board, staff, students and the entire ABCOAD community for what he called a thoughtful gesture that would remain one of the most memorable moments of his public service.

"This recognition is not only a personal honour but also a reflection of the College's culture of appreciating commitment, vision and service to institutional development," Wali said.

Reflecting on the origin of the projects, Wali explained that both facilities were facilitated during his tenure as Personal Assistant to the then Honourable Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Alhaji Mohammed Sabo Nanono.

According to him, the projects were attracted to the College to strengthen practical learning, research, innovation, entrepreneurship and skills acquisition, while also improving the learning environment and overall welfare of staff and students.

He said witnessing the successful completion of the projects and seeing them permanently associated with their names was both fulfilling and inspiring.

"Today, seeing these facilities established and associated with our names gives me a deep sense of fulfilment and responsibility. It reminds me that genuine service to an institution is never forgotten," he stated.

Wali reserved special appreciation for the Provost, Dr. Hassan Ibrahim whom he praised for demonstrating visionary leadership and for recognising the efforts of those who have contributed to the institution's progress.

He noted that such recognition would encourage more individuals, alumni and development partners to invest their time and resources in supporting the College's growth.

"Your leadership has continued to demonstrate respect for those who contribute to the progress of the College, and such recognition will undoubtedly encourage others to dedicate themselves to the advancement of the institution," he added.

The former ministerial aide also commended members of the College Management, Academic Board, academic and non-academic staff, students and other stakeholders for their support and cooperation over the years.

Paying tribute to Alhaji Mohammed Sabo Nanono, Wali described the former Minister as a passionate advocate of agricultural transformation whose contributions to agricultural education and institutional development have continued to make a lasting impact across the country.

He said the decision to name the Leather Enterprise Innovation Centre after Nanono was a fitting tribute to a leader whose support for agricultural development and enterprise promotion has created enduring opportunities for future generations.

"It is a thing of pride that his name is permanently attached to a centre that will promote enterprise, innovation and economic empowerment," Wali noted.

Reaffirming his commitment to the continued development of Audu Bako College of Agriculture, Dambatta, Wali said the honour would inspire him to remain dedicated to initiatives that promote educational excellence, agricultural advancement and national development.

He stressed that he views the recognition not merely as a personal achievement but as a renewed responsibility to continue serving the institution and society with dedication and integrity.

Wali prayed for Allah (SWT) to continue blessing the Provost, the Management and the entire College community with wisdom, unity and greater achievements.

He also expressed optimism that the Water Treatment Centre and the Leather Enterprise Innovation Centre would continue to benefit generations of students, researchers and entrepreneurs, serving as enduring symbols of partnership, innovation and institutional excellence.

The naming of the two facilities underscores the significant roles played by Umar Nuhu Wali and former Minister Alhaji Mohammed Sabo Nanono in facilitating development projects that have strengthened infrastructure and enhanced teaching, research, entrepreneurship and practical agricultural education at Audu Bako College of Agriculture, Dambatta.

SAPZ Kano partners ABCOAD to organize FFS Training for Youth and Women.

The Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zones (SAPZ) Programme, Kano State, in collaboration with Audu Bako College of Agriculture, Dambatta (ABCOAD), has commenced a two-day Farmer Field School (FFS) training for youth and women as part of efforts to promote sustainable agriculture, food security, and improved nutrition.

The training, sponsored by the SAPZ Programme with support from the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) and the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), is being facilitated by Audu Bako College of Agriculture, Dambatta.

The Farmer Field School (FFS) is to equip participants with practical, climate-smart agricultural knowledge and modern farming techniques that will enhance productivity, improve livelihoods, and contribute to building a healthier and more nutritious society.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, the State Programme Coordinator of SAPZ Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ilyasu, welcomed the beneficiaries and reminded them that they were selected from among thousands of applicants based on the programme's selection criteria
He urged the participants to take full advantage of the training by actively participating in both the classroom and practical sessions, noting that the programme includes intensive demonstrations on the farmland provided for the exercise.

According to him, Audu Bako College of Agriculture, Dambatta, was selected to facilitate the training because of its proven track record and outstanding capacity in delivering modern agricultural education and practical skills.

The State Programme Coordinator congratulated the participants on behalf of the Honourable Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Kano State, while appreciating the continued support of the Kano State Government, the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB), and IFAD towards youth and women empowerment.

In her remarks, the SAPZ Knowledge Management and Communication Officer, Hajiya Rabi Mustapha Ibrahim, described the training as a significant milestone in the programme's commitment to empowering women and youth through nutrition-sensitive agriculture.

She disclosed that the initiative would train 200 beneficiaries, the majority of whom are women, with the expectation that the knowledge acquired would positively impact agricultural production, household nutrition, and ultimately benefit up to two million people across the state.

Earlier, the Provost of Audu Bako College of Agriculture, Dambatta, Dr. Hassan Ibrahim, expressed appreciation to the SAPZ Kano Programme for selecting the College to facilitate the training. He also thanked the Kano State Government, the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB), and IFAD for their unwavering support towards agricultural development and human capital empowerment.

Dr. Hassan Ibrahim encouraged the beneficiaries to remain committed throughout the two-day intensive training, emphasizing that the knowledge and practical skills they acquire would position them for greater productivity and self-reliance.

The training features classroom sessions on Climate-Smart Agriculture, Agribusiness Development, Precision Agriculture, and other innovative farming practices, alongside practical demonstrations on land preparation, harrowing, tilling, spraying, irrigation management, and erosion control.

Also speaking, the SAPZ PIU Environmental and Climate Change Specialist, Dr. Kabiru Yau Abdullahi, commended Audu Bako College of Agriculture for its reputation as one of the region's leading agricultural training institutions and highlighted the importance of environmentally sustainable farming practices.

The Kano State Government has provided over 1,500 hectares of agricultural land across Tukui, Kadawa, Bagauda, and Bunkure to support the implementation of the programme.

As part of the opening activities, the State Programme Coordinator and members of the Project Implementation Unit (PIU) conducted an inspection tour of the College's two-hectare irrigation demonstration farm with the first batch of
beneficiaries.

ASUP ABCOAD CHAPTER SEEKS HEAD OF CIVIL SERVICE'S INTERVENTION ON STAFF WELFARE, INSTITUTIONAL REFORMS

The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP), Audu Bako College of Agriculture, Dambatta (ABCOAD) Chapter, has sought the intervention of the Kano State Head of Civil Service, Hajiya Bilkisu Shehu Maimota, on issues affecting the welfare of academic staff and the development of the institution.

The union made the appeal when its Chairman, Dr. Mustapha Mukhtar, led members of the executive committee on a courtesy visit to the Head of Civil Service in Kano.

Dr. Mukhtar congratulated Hajiya Maimota on her appointment as the substantive Head of the Kano State Civil Service, describing it as well deserved. He prayed for Almighty Allah to grant her wisdom, strength and good health to continue providing purposeful leadership for the state's civil service.

He commended her commitment to promoting discipline, professionalism, accountability, efficiency and improved service delivery, noting that her reforms and dedication to workers' welfare and capacity building had inspired confidence among civil servants across the state.

According to him, the visit was not only to congratulate the Head of Civil Service but also to seek her support on critical matters affecting members of the union and the continued growth of Audu Bako College of Agriculture, Dambatta.

Dr. Mukhtar appealed for the adjustment and migration of eligible academic staff to the appropriate salary structure and grade levels in line with existing government policies. He also requested her intervention in pending redeployment and transfer cases to ensure fairness, equity and effective utilisation of manpower within the state civil service.

The ASUP Chairman further appealed for the implementation of the approved Consolidated Academic and Technology Allowance (CATA) and the payment of the Peculiar Academic Earned Allowance (PAEA), saying both allowances were essential to improving staff welfare, motivation and productivity.

He also sought the Head of Civil Service's continued support for the ongoing review of the institution's nomenclature, explaining that the reform would strengthen the college's legal status, expand its academic mandate and enhance its access to greater developmental opportunities.

Dr. Mukhtar reaffirmed the union's commitment to maintaining industrial harmony and working closely with the Kano State Government in promoting quality education, institutional development and efficient public service delivery.

Responding, Hajiya Bilkisu Shehu Maimota thanked the ASUP leadership for the visit and assured them of her commitment to supporting the issues presented in line with established government procedures.

On the issue of salary adjustment and migration, she directed the management of the college to resend the relevant documents to her office for further action.

Regarding redeployment and transfer matters, she requested the union to submit the necessary correspondence to enable her office review the pending cases.

On the implementation of the Consolidated Academic and Technology Allowance (CATA), Hajiya Maimota asked the union to provide the financial implications of the exercise to facilitate consideration by the appropriate authorities.

She also pledged to facilitate the implementation and payment of the Peculiar Academic Earned Allowance (PAEA) through the Directorate of Higher Education.

Speaking on the proposed review of the institution's nomenclature, the Head of Civil Service assured the union of her support and promised to facilitate the process at the Kano State House of Assembly.

The meeting ended on a positive note, with both parties expressing confidence that sustained collaboration between the Kano State Government and ASUP would enhance staff welfare, strengthen the institution and further advance higher education in the state.
