OPay Digital Services Limited has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Kano State Polytechnic for a ₦60 million scholarship programme aimed at supporting students and promoting access to higher education.

The initiative is designed to provide financial assistance to deserving students in public tertiary institutions across Nigeria.

Speaking during the MoU signing ceremony, OPay’s Corporate Social Responsibility Manager, Mr. Itoro Udo, said the programme was established to address financial barriers that prevent students from pursuing higher education.

According to him, the initiative also seeks to nurture and empower aspiring technology innovators by providing them with the knowledge, practical experience and professional networks needed to make meaningful contributions to the digital economy.

Mr. Udo disclosed that the company had committed ₦60 million to the scholarship programme at Kano State Polytechnic over a 10-year period.

Under the arrangement, 20 students will benefit annually, with each selected National Diploma (ND) or Higher National Diploma (HND) student receiving ₦300,000 per academic session. This intended to cover tuition fees, accommodation and other related educational expenses.

In her remarks on behalf of the Rector, Dr. Abubakar Umar Farouk, FCA, the Deputy Rector (Administration), Dr. Maryam Kabir, expressed appreciation to OPay management for extending the initiative to the institution, and described the intervention as timely, particularly in view of the prevailing economic challenges and the rising cost of education.

She noted that the scholarship would provide significant relief to academically capable students experiencing financial difficulties, enabling them to continue their studies with fewer financial constraints.

Dr. Maryam also assured the company that the institution would ensure a transparent selection process, with beneficiaries chosen in accordance with the programme’s eligibility criteria and assessment procedures.

Earlier, in her welcome address, the Head of the Department of Banking and Finance, Kano State Polytechnic, Malama Asiya Kabir Umar, commended OPay Digital Services for the initiative.

She expressed gratitude for the company’s support, noting that the scholarship programme would leave a lasting impression on the institution by creating opportunities for students who might otherwise struggle to meet the financial demands of their education.

The Management of Kano State Polytechnic (KSP) on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, received a delegation from the Kano Anti-Corruption Institute (KANCI) on a familiarisation visit aimed at exploring areas of collaboration, particularly in capacity development and training.

The delegation was led by the Institute's Provost, Rahma M. A. Yusuf, Esq., alongside directors and other management staff.

She highlighted that the Polytechnic has more than 40 departments staffed by qualified professionals whose expertise could be harnessed to support the Institute's programmes and activities.

Dr. Maryam reaffirmed the Polytechnic's readiness to establish partnerships that promote public awareness and education on corruption, its consequences, and preventive measures.

She further assured the delegation of the management's commitment to providing the necessary support and cooperation to ensure a successful and mutually beneficial partnership.
