TAX CLUB BUK HOSTS ONE-DAY TAX WORKSHOP: EQUIPPING FUTURE TAX PROFESSIONALS
In a bid to train, inform and equip the next generation of tax professionals, the Tax Club, Bayero University, Kano, in conjunction with the Kano State Internal Revenue Service (KIRS), successfully held a One-Day Tax Workshop on Thursday, 17th September 2026, at the Kano State Internal Revenue Service, Kano.
The Workshop, themed โExploring Nigeriaโs Tax Reforms, Administrative and Regulatory Changes, and What Every Taxpayer Needs to Know,โ brought together members of the Tax Club for an engaging learning session focused on Nigeriaโs evolving tax landscape and the opportunities within revenue practice.
The Workshop was delivered in two sessions.
The first session, delivered by Mr. Abdulrahman Kabir AbdulโAziz, Head, Tax Expatriate Unit, Kano State Internal Revenue Service, took off from the regulatory changes in Nigeriaโs tax administration. He highlighted key features of the New Tax Reform and further explored the ongoing digitisation of the tax system, providing participants with practical insight into the changing nature of tax administration.
The second session, delivered by Mr. Isah Yakubu Yargaya (ACTI), Deputy Vice Chairman, Kano and District Society, Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN), delved deeply into key provisions of the New Tax Reform. Beyond the technical aspects of the reform, he also took time to mentor participants on career development and the steps young professionals can take to advance their careers in revenue practice.
The sessions were highly interactive, with participants listening keenly, engaging with the speakers and expressing their curiosity through questions and contributions at the conclusion of each presentation.
As part of the dayโs activities, the Executive Chairman of the Kano State Internal Revenue Service, Alhaji Bashir Yusuf Maitama (FCTI, CNA, MNIM), received the President of the Tax Club, Bayero University, Kano, Mr. Ridwanullah Olalekan Solahudeen, the Vice President, Miss Rabiat Tanimu Baba, alongside other members of the Executive Council, in his office.
During the meeting, the Executive Chairman commended the leadership of the Club for the initiative taken to develop the proposal for the Workshop and for working assiduously towards its successful ex*****on. He further assured the leadership of the Serviceโs continued support for the Tax Club, its members and the university community at large.
