PRESS RELEASE

KATSINA STATE INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY AND MANAGEMENT: 13–15 YEARS OF EDUCATION, SKILLS DEVELOPMENT AND CONTRIBUTION TO SOCIETY
Katsina, Nigeria — 1st
October 2026.

As Nigeria commemorates 66 years of independence and Katsina State marks 39 years since its creation, it is equally important to reflect on the journey and achievements of the Katsina State Institute of Technology and Management (KSITM) since its establishment and the commencement of academic activities.
Over the past 13 to 15 years, KSITM has played an important role in providing education, technical training and skills development opportunities to young people, equipping students with knowledge and practical skills needed to contribute meaningfully to the development of Katsina State and Nigeria at large.
The anniversary provides an opportunity to look back at the journey of the institution, assess its achievements, recognise its challenges and consider the opportunities available for further growth and development.
Among the areas worthy of recognition are the number of students who have passed through the institution and gone on to pursue careers, businesses and other opportunities; the development of academic programmes; the contribution of qualified academic and non-academic staff; the provision of learning facilities and equipment; as well as the partnerships and support received from government, organisations and other stakeholders.
This occasion is also an opportunity to appreciate everyone who has contributed to the development of KSITM since its establishment — successive administrations, management and governing authorities, academic and non-academic staff, students, alumni, parents and guardians, as well as the people of Katsina State.
As the institution continues to grow, there is a need for all stakeholders to remain committed to strengthening technical and vocational education, improving learning facilities, supporting innovation and ensuring that students acquire the practical skills required in today's rapidly changing world.
The anniversary should therefore serve not only as a moment of celebration, but also as an opportunity to reflect on the past, evaluate the present and envision a stronger future for KSITM.
As Nigeria celebrates 66 years of independence and Katsina State commemorates 39 years of its creation, we call on all stakeholders to continue supporting institutions of education, technology and skills development, recognising their important role in preparing young people for productive and self-reliant lives.
Education is the foundation of societal development, while technology and practical skills provide the tools for transforming knowledge into meaningful progress.
We therefore congratulate the Federal Republic of Nigeria on 66 years of independence, congratulate Katsina State on 39 years since its creation, and extend our warmest congratulations to the Katsina State Institute of Technology and Management (KSITM) for its contributions to education, technical training and human capital development over the years.

PRESS STATEMENT

Commendation for KSITM Rector Over Landmark Career Guidance and Educational Outreach Initiative

The Rector of the Katsina State Institute of Technology and Management (KSITM), Dr. Musa Ahmad Zayyad, PhD, has been commended for introducing a forward-looking educational outreach initiative designed to expose secondary school students to career opportunities, practical skills, technology and informed career choices.

The initiative, which commenced on 18 September 2026, provides secondary school students with an opportunity to visit KSITM, tour its facilities and interact with professionals who offer guidance on education, skills acquisition and career development.

The programme has been described as a landmark initiative in the educational landscape of Katsina State, particularly for its deliberate focus on exposing young people to career possibilities at an early stage of their academic journey.

Through the initiative, students are given the opportunity to move beyond classroom theory and gain first-hand exposure to laboratories, libraries, technology facilities, vocational and technical environments, career services and other institutional resources.
The initiative is particularly significant because career decisions made at the secondary-school level can have a lasting impact on students' educational and professional trajectories. By providing young learners with relevant information and direct exposure to different fields, KSITM is creating an environment in which students can better understand their interests, abilities and potential career pathways.

The programme also reflects the vision of Dr. Musa Ahmad Zayyad, PhD, to reposition the Institute as an institution that not only provides education and skills to its enrolled students but also actively contributes to the development and preparation of young people within the wider community.

Rather than waiting for prospective students to arrive at the tertiary level, the initiative takes career awareness and educational guidance directly to young people while they are still making decisions about their future.

This approach demonstrates a strong understanding of the importance of early career guidance, skills development and community engagement in preparing young people for an increasingly competitive world.
The initiative further strengthens the connection between secondary education and tertiary education, while promoting the idea that academic knowledge should be complemented by practical skills, technical competence and career awareness.

The leadership of KSITM also deserves commendation for involving relevant units of the Institute, including the Directorate of Skills Development and Community Services (DSDCS), the Career Services Centre, and public relations unit in delivering the programme. Their involvement provides students with access to both practical exposure and professional career guidance.
The commencement of the programme with students of Government Girls College Katsina (Senior), formerly WTC, marks an important step towards building a sustainable relationship between KSITM and secondary schools across Katsina State.

The planned continuation of the programme on a monthly basis, with other secondary schools expected to participate, provides an opportunity for the initiative to reach a wider number of young people across the state.

It is therefore important to acknowledge and commend Dr. Musa Ahmad Zayyad, PhD, for the vision behind this initiative and for recognising the need to prepare young people not only for academic progression but also for meaningful careers and productive participation in society.

The initiative represents a practical investment in the future of Katsina State's youth, and its continued implementation could contribute significantly to increasing awareness of career options, technical education, vocational skills and opportunities within the evolving world of work.

The programme is also a reflection of the broader role that institutions of higher learning can play in community development by sharing knowledge, providing guidance and helping young people make informed decisions about their educational and professional futures.

As the initiative expands to include more schools, it is expected to further strengthen KSITM's engagement with the community and reinforce its commitment to educational awareness, skills development and youth empowerment.

Dr. Musa Ahmad Zayyad, PhD, deserves commendation for championing an initiative that places the future of young people at the centre of educational development.

This is more than a facility tour. It is an investment in awareness, aspiration, skills and informed career choices—and, ultimately, in the human capital development of Katsina State.

Congratulations to the Rector and the entire KSITM Management on this commendable initiative.

PRESS RELEASE

NBTE APPROVES ND ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE PROGRAMME FOR KSITM

The Management of Katsina State Institute of Technology and Management (KSITM) is pleased to announce the approval granted by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) for the Institute to commence the National Diploma (ND) in Artificial Intelligence (AI) with effect from the 2026/2027 Academic Session.

The approval represents another significant milestone in the Institute’s commitment to providing relevant, innovative and industry-driven technical education that responds to emerging technologies and the evolving demands of the digital economy.

In communicating the approval, the NBTE has also copied the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) for the inclusion of the newly approved programme in the JAMB Brochure and for other necessary actions towards the admission of prospective students into the programme.

Prior to the latest approval, the Institute had been offering the Higher National Diploma (HND) in Artificial Intelligence, which was domiciled under the Department of Computer Science. The approval of the ND programme now provides the foundation for Artificial Intelligence to operate as a full-fledged academic department, with its own National Diploma (ND) and Higher National Diploma (HND) programmes.

The development is expected to further strengthen the Institute’s academic structure and enhance its capacity to train students in emerging areas such as Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Data Analytics, Intelligent Systems, Robotics and other related digital technologies.

The approval is particularly significant in view of the increasing global demand for professionals with competencies in Artificial Intelligence and other emerging technologies. It is also in line with the Institute’s vision of producing highly skilled graduates capable of contributing meaningfully to technological development, innovation, entrepreneurship and the digital transformation of society.

Management appreciates the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) for its continued regulatory guidance and support, as well as the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) for its collaboration in facilitating the admission process.

The Management also commends the Katsina State Government, Governing Council, staff and other stakeholders of the Institute for their contributions towards achieving this important milestone.

Prospective students, parents, guardians and the general public are therefore encouraged to take note of the approval and look forward to the commencement of admission into the ND Artificial Intelligence programme from the 2026/2027 Academic Session, subject to the applicable admission requirements and procedures.

This achievement further demonstrates the commitment of Katsina State Institute of Technology and Management to academic excellence, technological innovation and the development of skilled manpower for the future.
