NASARAWA STATE LAW STUDENTS’ ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIA (NASLAWSAN)

PRESS RELEASE

The Nasarawa State Law Students' Association of Nigeria wrote an open letter to the Governor of Nasarawa State on August 14, 2022, detailing the hardships faced by natives of Nasarawa State pursuing legal education. Also, we pleaded with His Royal Highness the Emir of Lafia to intervene. Thus, it is imperative that the bursary system for the students who aspire to attend the largest bar in Africa be approved.

Just a few hours ago, the Nasarawa State Law Students' Association of Nigeria received official word that His Excellency had approved and directed for an upward review of the Law Students' Bursery, increasing the amount awarded to law students, from One Hundred Thousand Naira (100,000.00) to Three Hundred Thousand Naira (300,000.00). In the annals of the state, this is a cynosure: something to be commended and even honored for.

Indeed Engineer Abdullahi A. Sule is a visionary for Nasarawa State and a man who gets things done. He is an educational messiah who insists on nothing less than the highest standards.

We promise to turn the substantial funds you have already committed to us into a spectacularly successful venture that will foster the development of specialized knowledge and economic growth in Nasarawa State.

Thank you, Your Excellency Sir.
God Bless the good people of Nasarawa State,
God Bless Nigeria,
Good Bless NASLAWSAN.

ASSOCIATION OF LEGISLATIVE DRAFTERS AND ADVOCACY PRACTITIONERS (ALDRAP) INDUCTS 40 NEW MEMBERS OF THE NASARAWA STATE LAW STUDENTS ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIA (NASLAWSAN)

In light of the fact that yesterday marks the seventh day (7th) since we took office, we are continuing our pursuit of knowledge, innovations, and redefining what it means to be a leader. Yesterday, at the National Assembly Complex in Abuja, the leadership of the Nasarawa State Law Students Association of Nigeria (NASLAWSAN) was granted the privilege of facilitating the induction of over fourty of the association's members from various universities in Nigeria into the Association of Legislative Drafters and Advocacy Practitioners (ALDRAP).

The induction was hosted by Dr Tonye Clinton Jaja who is also the Secretary of the Association, Clerk of the House Dr Yahaya H. Danzaria was also in attendance and other special dignitories.

Association of Legislative Drafters and Advocacy Practitioners (ALDRAP) has advocated the recognition of legislative drafting as an area of legal practice in Nigeria.

ALDRAP, in a statement signed by its Secretary, Dr. Tonye Clinton Jaja, the group recommended that additional sections be added to recognise the practice in the new Legal Practitioners Bill scheduled for hearing at the National Assembly.

Part of the changes they want include: “Trainee law students working under the direct supervision of persons entitled to (c) selecting, drafting, or completing legal documents or agreements that affect practice to be practicing law or providing legal services when engaging in Legislative Drafting Association of Legislative Drafters and Advocacy Practitioners (ALDRAP).

“Advocacy either as a staff of the National Assembly, State House of Assembly, Local Government Area (LGA) Legislative Assembly or as a legal consultant, provided such a person has prior certification issued under the Mandatory Continuing Legal Education law in Nigeria in strict compliance with the Rules of Professional Conduct.

Also he added that "their major goal is to promote the professionalism of legislative drafting and advocacy as a means of improving the quality of legislation within Nigeria. As a professional Association we aspire to become like the ICAN of the legislative drafting discipline."

The Students expressed their gratitude to ALDRAP, the speaker of the House of Representatives, and the clerk of the House of Representatives for the opportunity by thanking them for the privilege.
