*DR. BENJAMIN I. MBA IS THE NEW ILLINOIS NORTHERN GOVERNOR-ELECT DESIGNEE (GED).*

Dr. Benjamin I. Mba, MD, MRCP (UK), CHCQM, FACP, an Alumnus of the College of Medicine, University of Lagos, Nigeria is the new Illinois Northern Chapter Governor-elect Designee (GED). He is presently the Associate Chair of Medicine for Faculty Development & Associate Program Director, Cook County Health; Professor of Medicine.

Dr. Mba will complete a year of training as a Governor-elect and then start his four-year term as Governor in the Spring of 2024. He will serve as the official representative of the College for the Illinois Northern Chapter, providing a link between members at the local level and leadership at the national level.

His areas of Professional Interest and Expertise are Graduate Medical Education and Faculty Development; Clinical Reasoning; Diversity in Medicine.

CMUL COLLEGE SECRETARY DELIVERS A LECTURE AT THE NIGERIAN INSTITUTE OF MANAGEMENT (CHARTERED) ZONAL MEETING.
On Thursday, November 24, 2022, the College Secretary, Dr. Olayinka Obafemi-Moses, FNIM, was a speaker at the 2022 Zonal Meeting of the Nigerian Institute of Management (Chartered), held at the Arthur Mbanefo Digital Research Centre, University of Lagos, Akoka, where he delivered a lecture titled; Good people Good product: Unveiling the power of Mentorship.

The College Secretary gave a stimulating lecture which focused on the following four areas of discourse; the Origin of Mentoring; Concept of Mentoring; Mentoring Process; and Skills required in Mentoring. He emphasized on the importance of Mentorship, stating that the quality of any product is a function of the process that produces it.

Present at the event were: Provost, Professor David Adewale Oke; Former Registrar, University of Lagos, Dr. T.F. Ipaye; Fellows and Members of the Nigerian Institute of Management.

*BRAINS boosts research capacity at the College of Medicine, University of Lagos; delivers on her 5 Year Goal*

The Brains Research And Innovation in Nigeria’s Science (BRAINS), on Thursday 17th November, 2022, in the Office of the Provost, College of medicine, University of Lagos, Idi- Araba, presented the electronic records of its proceedings to the Medical Education Development Unit, College of Medicine, University of Lagos.

BRAINS is a 5- year grant (2015-2020) from the Fogarty International Centre at the National Institute of Health, Bethesda, USA. Professor Wasiu L. Adeyemo, who represented the Principal Investigator of the project, the Vice Chancellor University of Lagos, Professor Folasade Ogunsola in her speech stated that BRAINS has improved the capacity of faculty members at the College of Medicine, Idi Araba including the Faculty of Pharmacy as well as the main campus, Akoka, by training over a total of One thousand five hundred(1500) faculty members in responsible conduct of research grant and manuscript writing, cased based method learning, genomics etc.

Professor Adeyemo added that for sustainability plans of the project, the courses were transformed into electronic format and transferred to the Medical Education Development Unit for ownership and subsequent use.

The Provost, Professor David Adewale Oke in his remark stated that he benefitted from the trainings and commended the Principal Investigator and other co-investigators. He reiterated that the CMUL has tremendously benefited from the project. He pledged his support to the Medical Education Development Unit for the continuous use of the material.

The Director of MEDU, Professor A.C. Mbakwem, who received the material on behalf of MEDU, expressed her gratitude to the BRAINS team, and disclosed that the material will be domiciled, and made available online for new faculty members.

CMUL HOLDS THE WHITE COAT CEREMONY FOR 200LEVEL STUDENTS.

The Orientation programme for the newly admitted Students into the College of Medicine, University of Lagos, for the 2021/2022 session commenced on Monday November 7,2002, in the Old Great Hall of the College.The students were introduced to the activities in the College, lectured on various health and professional topics, and also visited key CMUL/LUTH points.

The historic and climax of the event was the White Coat Ceremony which was presided over by the Provost, Professor David Adewale Oke who congratulates and welcomed the new students to the College.

According to the provost, the white coat ceremony is the rite of passage into the College of Medicine, which symbolizes that the students understand the privilege for working for humanity and understand the responsibility to find solutions to Health problems in Nigeria, and also be ready to make integrity, merit, hardwork, responsibility, empathy and continuous learning creeds that they should live by entrying into a special breed of men and women at the College of Medicine, University of Lagos. Professor Oke welcomed the students and wished them success in their studies.
