TRANSFORMING TECHNICAL EDUCATION: MAIDEN GENDER WEDNESDAY AT GTC ADO-SOBA
Yesterday, Wednesday, 7th October 2026, our college vibrated with powerful discussions as Government Technical College, Ado-Soba joined technical colleges across Lagos State to observe the maiden edition of Wednesday, an initiative instituted by the Lagos State Technical and Vocational Education Board (LASTVEB)
Under our core mandate to build well-rounded, skilled, and character-driven trade professionals, our students gathered in their respective clubs: The Masculine World and Girls for Girls Initiative (G4G).
This month’s landmark session focused on a critical foundation for personal and professional success: Mutual Respect Between Boys and Girls.
To ensure maximum impact and age-appropriate guidance, these sessions were facilitated by our dedicated educators who have been specifically trained on Gender Inclusion and student mentorship.
Key highlights from yesterday’s interactive breakout sessions included:
1 Personal Space & Boundaries: Understanding bodily autonomy, personal dignity, and setting healthy boundaries in classrooms, workshops, and daily interactions.
2 Eradicating Bullying & Gender-Based Violence: Reinforcing our zero-tolerance policy against intimidation, harassment, and violence in any form.
3 Building Strong Support Systems: Guiding students on where to turn, how to access school counselors and trained Gender Champions, and why no student ever has to walk alone.
4 Emotional Balance & Healthy Strength: Redefining strength for our young men and women, teaching that true strength lies in empathy, self-control, emotional balance, and standing up for others.
5 The Courage to Speak Up: Encouraging every boy and girl to use their voice, seek help when facing challenges, and look out for their peers.
At GTC Ado-Soba, we believe that world-class technical competence must go hand-in-hand with strong moral character. When our young craftspeople learn to respect themselves and each other today, they become the ethical leaders and industry professionals of tomorrow.
A huge thank you to LASTVEB, our Principal, VP Admin, VP Special Duties, trained Gender Inclusion Educators, and Gender Champions for facilitating a safe and transformative space for our students.
