PROFESSOR BADEJO SEEKS SUPPORT FOR HER ADMINISTRATION DURING FAMILIARISATION VISITS TO FACULTIES AND SCHOOLS.

The 10th Substantive Vice-Chancellor of Lagos State University, Professor Ayodeji Olawunmi BADEJO, FCASSON, FAPROCON, MNAE, has called for the commitment of members of the University community to her administration’s vision and strategic agenda during familiarisation visits to the University’s faculties and schools on Tuesday, 20th October, and Wednesday, 21st October 2026.

The visit took Professor BADEJO to the Faculties of Science, Law, Arts, Education, Management Sciences, Social Sciences, Computing and Information Technology, and Communication and Media Studies; the Postgraduate School; the School of Library, Archival and Information Science; the School of Tourism, Creativity and Cultural Arts; and the LASU Innovation Hub.

During the engagements, the Vice-Chancellor highlighted the importance of collective responsibility, teamwork and effective communication in advancing the University’s goals. She encouraged members of staff to contribute actively to the institution’s growth and to align their respective activities with the administration’s development priorities.

Professor BADEJO also presented the eight strategic pillars that would guide her administration, namely:
• Academic excellence and quality assurance;
• Research, innovation and global visibility;
• Financial sustainability and resource mobilisation;
• Infrastructure and digital transformation;
• Staff welfare and industrial harmony;
• Student welfare, mentorship and employability;
• Governance, integrity and institutional visibility; and
• Community engagement and societal impact.

She explained that these pillars would provide strategic direction for the various units and promote a coordinated approach to achieving the administration’s vision and advancing the University’s institutional objectives.

The familiarisation visits further afforded the Vice-Chancellor the opportunity to interact with the leadership and staff of the respective faculties and schools, and to gain first-hand insight into their challenges and developmental needs.

The engagements underscored the importance of sustained dialogue between the University’s central administration and its constituent units in promoting academic excellence, research, innovation and efficient service delivery.

The visits form part of Professor BADEJO’s efforts to deepen stakeholder engagement, foster an inclusive, open door policy, and establish a shared sense of purpose in advancing the continued growth and development of Lagos State University.

LASU HOSTS 20TH EDITION OF WALK FOR NATURE TO PROMOTE ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY

The Lagos State University (LASU) community took to the streets on Saturday, 17th October 2026, for the 20th edition of the Walk for Nature, organised by the Lagos State Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources and the Nigerian Conservation Foundation (NCF) in collaboration with the University's Centre for Environmental Studies and Sustainable Development (CESSED).

Dressed in green, red and white shirts, participants set out from the Aderemi Makanjuola Lecture Theatre on the Main Campus, Ojo, walked through the Iba Gate to First Gate and returned to campus at about 9:00 a.m., with moments of dancing and camaraderie along the way. The 10,000-step walk marked the initiative's 20th anniversary and participants later reconvened at the lecture theatre for the second leg of the programme.

Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide SANWO-OLU, represented by Dr Omobolaji GAJI, Permanent Secretary, Office of Environmental Services, noted that Lagos generates about 30,000 tonnes of waste daily, roughly half of which is plastic. He outlined government measures to curb plastic pollution, protect wetlands and improve drainage, describing environmental protection as essential to reducing flooding and safeguarding communities.

In his welcome address, the Honourable Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Mr Tokunbo WAHAB, represented by Mrs Tolulope ADEYO Director of the Ecology and Conservation Department, said climate action in a coastal state like Lagos must include infrastructural measures. He explained that wetlands regulate water, support biodiversity, store carbon and sustain livelihoods, and outlined the state's work on wetland protection, waste management and flood risk. Climate resilience, he added, depends not only on government but on informed communities, responsible businesses, active institutions and engaged citizens. He thanked the NCF, LASU and other partners for their commitment to conservation.

The Chairman of the NCF National Executive Council, Hon. Justice (Mrs.) R.I.B. ADEBIYI, pointed to the growing threats of flooding, rising sea levels, extreme heat and wetland loss in Lagos. “When we protect nature, we protect people,” she said, urging students of every discipline to embrace environmental responsibility through tree planting, reduced energy use and responsible waste management. She also called for stronger environmental policies and accountability across government and the private sector.

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ayodeji Olawunmi BADEJO, FCASSON, FAPROCON, MNAE, represented by the Senior Deputy Bursar, Mr Jerry JINADU, FCA, described the walk as more than an exercise, noting that it promotes physical fitness, social interaction and shared responsibility for nature. She said the university's green environment had been well sustained, linked good health to productivity and academic excellence, and encouraged the organisers to attract younger participants and deepen their partnership with the university.

Yeye Moremi of Oodua, Chief Mrs Olufunsho AMOSUN, founder of UPLIFT Development Foundation and the former First Lady of Ogun State, called participants environmental ambassadors and urged them to conserve water and electricity and take the message of climate action to their families and communities. “We did not just come here to wear the T-shirt and go for a walk. We need you,” she said.

A key highlight of the event was the NCF's donation of a giant recycling bin to the Centre for Environmental Studies and Sustainable Development (CESSED), LASU.

Goodwill messages came from corporate partners and sponsors including Aluko & Oyebode, Zenith Bank, DCSL Corporate Services Limited, Fidelity Bank, A.G. Leventis Limited and Seven-Up Bottling Company, while Dame Marie FATAYI-WILLIAMS delivered the vote of thanks, expressing appreciation to all who made the 20th edition a success.

LASU EPE CAMPUS TO RECEIVE 200 COMPUTERS AS NITDA APPROVES DIGITAL INNOVATION HUB FOLLOWING CHANCELLOR’S INTERVENTION; VC DIRECTS PREPARATORY MEASURES
…Professor Ayodeji BADEJO Authorises Preparations as NITDA Representative Inspects Proposed Site

Lagos State University (LASU) is set to strengthen digital learning, research and technological innovation at its Epe Campus following the approval by the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Abuja, of a proposed Digital Innovation Hub to be equipped with 200 desktop computer systems and other essential digital infrastructure.

The intervention, facilitated by the Chancellor of Lagos State University, His Royal Majesty, Oba (Dr) Olufolarin Olukayode OGUNSANWO, Telade IV, the Alara of Ilara Kingdom, Epe Division, Lagos State, represents a significant step towards expanding access to modern digital learning facilities and equipping students with the technological skills required to thrive in an increasingly digital world.

In response to the development, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ayodeji Olawunmi BADEJO, FCASSON, FAPROCON, MNAE, promptly authorised the necessary institutional preparations and directed the relevant units to take appropriate follow-up action to ensure the University’s readiness for the successful implementation of the intervention.

Professor BADEJO's response underscores her administration’s commitment to translating strategic partnerships and external interventions into tangible improvements in teaching, learning, research and the overall student experience.

Chancellor’s Intervention Secures NITDA Approval

The approval followed a formal request by the Chancellor to the Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of NITDA, Mr Kashifu Inuwa ABDULLAHI, CCIE, seeking digital infrastructure support for the LASU Epe Campus.

In his request, the Chancellor emphasised the need to bridge the digital infrastructure gap and provide students with the tools required to become creators and innovators rather than merely consumers of technology. He also reaffirmed the University’s readiness to provide the necessary institutional support to facilitate the smooth implementation and long-term sustainability of the project.

The request subsequently received NITDA’s approval, paving the way for the proposed provision of 200 desktop computer systems and complementary digital infrastructure.

The intervention highlights the importance of strategic stakeholder engagement in mobilising resources for university development. It also demonstrates the value of collaboration between the University’s leadership, its Chancellor and national institutions committed to advancing digital literacy, innovation and Nigeria’s digital economy.

Professor BADEJO has expressed profound appreciation to the Chancellor for his efforts in facilitating the intervention, acknowledging his strategic engagement and continued support for the University’s development agenda.

NITDA Representative Inspects Proposed Digital Innovation Hub at Epe Campus

As part of the preparatory process, a representative of NITDA, Abuja, Mr OLATUNJI, visited the LASU Epe Campus on Tuesday, 13th October 2026, to inspect the site earmarked for the proposed Digital Innovation Hub. The representative was received by the Head of Campus, Professor Elkannah OYETUNJI. The Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Professor Kamilu OYEDEKO, was also present.

The inspection provided an opportunity to assess the designated location and consider the infrastructural requirements for establishing the Hub. It also marked a further step towards actualising the intervention and preparing the University for its implementation.
The inspection aligns with the Vice-Chancellor’s directive on institutional preparedness and reflects the University’s commitment to working with NITDA to facilitate the successful establishment of the facility.

Digital Innovation Hub to Advance Learning, Research and Innovation

The proposed Digital Innovation Hub is expected to be equipped with 200 desktop computer systems, appropriate software, printers, interactive learning boards, reliable internet connectivity, a solar-powered inverter system, air-conditioning, chairs, tables and other supporting facilities. When operational, the facility is expected to expand access to computing resources for students and staff while providing an enabling environment for practical ICT training, digital literacy, academic research and collaborative learning.

The accompanying software and interactive learning boards will support practical instruction, demonstrations and technology-enabled teaching. Reliable internet connectivity will improve access to online learning materials, digital libraries, research databases and other educational resources, while the solar-powered inverter system will provide supporting power infrastructure for the facility.

Beyond these immediate benefits, the Hub presents opportunities to encourage student innovation, interdisciplinary collaboration and the development of technology-based solutions to real-world problems. Depending on the programmes and operational arrangements established by the University, it could also support practical activities in programming, data analysis, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence and other computing-related disciplines.

At a time when digital competencies, technological creativity and research-driven innovation are increasingly important to higher education and graduate employability, the proposed Hub is expected to contribute to LASU’s efforts to equip students with relevant practical skills and strengthen the connection between academic learning and technological innovation.

The initiative is consistent with the University’s broader commitment to institutional development, digital transformation and improved educational delivery. It also reinforces the importance of providing students across its campuses with access to appropriate learning facilities and opportunities to develop practical technological competencies.

As preparations continue, LASU remains committed to providing the necessary institutional cooperation to support the successful establishment and effective utilisation of the Digital Innovation Hub at its Epe Campus.
