Let's celebrate an astute administrator, Deputy Registrar, University of Lagos, Mr. Rotimi Martins Adedunye as he clocks 60.

Mr. Rotimi Adedunye is an alumnus of the University of Lagos, where he obtained a B.Sc. (Hons.) in Economics in 1991 and an M.Sc. in Economics in 1996. He is a seasoned University Administrator with extensive experience in university administration and management, particularly at his alma mater, the University of Lagos.

He commenced his administrative career at the College of Medicine, University of Lagos, in 2000 and rose steadily through the ranks to attain the position of Deputy Registrar in 2023. Over the course of his distinguished career, he has served in several strategic units and administrative offices of the University, including the Registrar’s Office, Office of International Relations, Partnerships and Prospects, Faculty of Social Sciences, Student Affairs Division, Human Resource Management Directorate, and the School of Postgraduate Studies.

Until March 2026, Mr. Adedunye served as Deputy Registrar and Administrative Secretary, School of Postgraduate Studies, University of Lagos, where he contributed significantly to the effective administration and coordination of postgraduate programmes and activities. He subsequently proceeded on sabbatical leave to Egbin Power Plc, Ijede, Ikorodu, where he is bringing his wealth of administrative and managerial experience to bear.

Beyond university administration, Mr. Adedunye is a Professional Manager and member of the Nigerian Institute of Management (Chartered). He currently serves as the Chairman of the University of Lagos Chapter of the Institute, where he provides leadership in promoting professional management practice, capacity development, and excellence among members.

Mr. Adedunye is a committed professional, administrator, and leader with a strong passion for institutional development, effective management, and service excellence.

On this Diamond Jubilee celebration, we pray for strength, joy and prosperity. May the years ahead be glorious.

Today, we celebrate a distinguished administrator, educationist and proud Akokite, Dr. (Mrs.) Taiwo Folashade Ipaye, as she marks her birthday.

Dr. Ipaye holds a Master’s and Doctorate Degrees in Educational Administration from the University of Lagos. Her remarkable career at our great Alma Mater spans over three decades, having joined the University in 1989 as an Administrative Officer I.

Over the years, she rose through the ranks, serving in various capacities across the College of Medicine, School of Postgraduate Studies and Examination Office, before her appointment as Registrar of the University of Lagos in August 2013. She is currently the Director of the Office of Advancement, University of Lagos.

With her wealth of experience in university administration, staff welfare, personnel management and institutional development, Dr. Ipaye has made significant contributions to the growth and administration of our great University.

Every university needs its alumni - UNILAG VC

The Vice Chancellor, University of Lagos, Prof. Folasade Ogunsola, OON, FAS, has made a call on members of the University of Lagos alumni to donate facilities to the University, citing that UNILAG, like every other institution, needs its alumni for sustained development.

She made the call yesterday (Friday) at the Commissioning of the State-of-the-art Boardroom of the Faculty of Environmental Sciences, renovated and donated by an alumnus of the faculty, Bldr. Lukman Morenikeji Opaleye.

Bldr. Opaleye, Class of 2014 of the Department of Building, who graduated from the faculty 12 years ago, is currently the MD/CEO of ERECTAS Engineering Company Limited, a fast growing construction company with legacy projects spread across Nigeria.

Praising the donor, Prof. Ogunsola, who visited the faculty alongside principal officers of the University, noted that Bldr. Opaleye has "done more than a donation" and has shown that he is not just a graduate of Building but "a leader who sees far into the future", hence the need for the donation.

She added that she had once visited the boardroom in its old condition which she described as "okay" but remarked that the renovation by the donor is more resplendent and beautiful with better ambience.

Welcoming the August visitors to the commissioning, the Dean, Prof. Olumide Adenuga, FNIOB, noted that the donation was coming on the heels of his 1st year anniversary in office as Dean and reeled out many other achievements of his administration which include sterling academic performance by students, infrastructural development and installation of top tier security gadgets to end the perennial problem of theft in the faculty.

He added that he achieved the milestones as a result of cooperation with all stakeholders including academic and non academic staff of the faculty. Prof. Adenuga revealed that the old boardroom had been in use for over 25 years.

In his remarks, Bldr. Lukman Opaleye thanked the university for its manifold investment in his life which has brought him thus far. He added that his donation was poised by the personal belief that "the best way to build a place that built you is to build it back". He also pledged to maintain the facility for three years.

An appreciation plaque was then presented to the donor by the Vice Chancellor in appreciation of his generous donation. His friend and business partner, Engr. Ayoola Kuyebi, was also decorated with a plaque for his role as Chairman of the occasion.

Let's celebrate a distinguished scholar, renowned Professor of Anatomy, mentor and proud Akokite, Prof. Olugbenga Abayomi Okanlawon, as he marks his 70th birthday and retires from the University of Lagos after 44 years of dedicated service to academia.

Prof. Okanlawon began his journey at our great Alma Mater as a student of Anatomy and returned as a lecturer in 1982, rising through the ranks to become Professor of Anatomy in 2003. Over the years, he has distinguished himself as a teacher, researcher and mentor, nurturing generations of scholars.

Beyond the medical field, Prof. Okanlawon is a passionate lover of history. He has consistently enriched various UNILAG and Alumni platforms with fascinating stories about historic moments, personalities and places that have shaped our University. His three-volume publication, “Discovering the University of Lagos: One Day at a Time,” is another testament to his passion for preserving the history of our Alma Mater.

As he retires after 44 years of service, we celebrate a remarkable career dedicated to scholarship, mentorship and the preservation of UNILAG's history.

The University of Lagos Alumni Association warmly congratulates Dr. Olugbenga A. Awe on his appointment as the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA).

Dr. Awe, a medical doctor, university teacher, entrepreneur and education administrator, is a proud alumnus of our great Alma Mater. He studied at the University of Lagos before proceeding for further postgraduate training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology as well as Internal Medicine.

He currently serves as an Associate Professor of Medicine at Mercer University School of Medicine in the United States, where he has built a distinguished career spanning medicine and higher education. His professional experience also cuts across enterprise, education management and public service.

His appointment by the Federal Government is a recognition of his wealth of experience and expertise in medicine, academia and higher education. In his new role, Dr. Awe will work with members of the Governing Council in providing strategic direction for the administration and development of FUTA.

We are confident that his experience, knowledge and exposure will contribute significantly to the continued growth and development of the institution and further strengthen its position as a leading university of technology.

We wish our distinguished alumnus wisdom, strength and a successful tenure as he takes on this important responsibility.

Let's celebrate with one of our own, Mr. Ademola Adebise, on his appointment as the Pro-Chancellor/Chairman, Governing Council, Elizade University.

Only two years ago, he was celebrated on this platform when he was appointed Board Chairman, Family Homes Funds Limited by President Bola Tinubu.

Family Homes Funds Limited (FHFL) is a Federal Government initiative to support families on low-income to attain their home ownership dreams.

Mr. Adebise, tech bro, author, boardroom genius, served as Managing Director, Wema Bank Plc and has over 33 years experience in the banking industry including four years in management consulting serving banking and financial services clients.

For context, he is one of the team of disruptors that changed the narrative of Wema Bank, from an "old-school bank" to a "youth centric" and globally competitive bank. The revolutionary move saved the bank from failure.

Before joining Wema Bank, he was the Head of the Finance & Performance Management Practice at Accenture (Lagos Office) where he led various projects for banks in business Process Re-engineering, Information Technology and Risk Management.

He holds a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from the University of Lagos. He is also an alumnus of the Advanced Management Program (AMP) of the Harvard Business School. He obtained a Master’s degree in Business Administration (MBA) from the Lagos Business School.

He is a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Taxation and Computer Professionals (Registration Council of Nigeria), a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (FCIB) and a member of the Institute of Directors.

Prof. Badejo, a Professor of Guidance and Counselling, is a proud alumna of our great Alma Mater, where she obtained both her M.Ed. and Ph.D. in Guidance and Counselling.

Her appointment marks another significant milestone in a distinguished academic career and is a testament to her experience, competence and commitment to the advancement of education.

Prof. Badejo takes over from Prof. Ibiyemi Ibilola Olatunji-Bello, another distinguished Akokite, who assumed office as Vice-Chancellor of LASU in September 2021.

We believe that, as another proud product of the University of Lagos takes the helm at LASU, Prof. Badejo will maintain the transformational drive that has kept the University prominently in pole position among state-owned universities in Nigeria.

Hon. Moyo graduated from University of Lagos where he obtained BSc in Kinesiology and Exercise Science, and MSc in Public and International Affairs.

A grassroots politician, his administration came up with the F.I.N.E Agenda, with the Council pursuing initiatives focused on economic empowerment, human capital development, improved public services, environmental sustainability and inclusive grassroots development.

Today, the University of Lagos Alumni Association joins millions of believers, family, and well-wishers across the globe to celebrate an exceptional leader, spiritual titan, and distinguished alumnus, Archbishop Francis Olubowale Aderibigbe Oke, as he reaches the landmark age of 70!

Archbishop Oke, who bagged his B.Sc. in Land and Engineering Survey (now Surveying and Geoinformatics) from our prestigious Alma Mater in 1982, has continually flown the UNILAG flag of excellence high. Reflecting on his formative years, he was tutored in Mathematics in 1977 by Pastor Enoch Adeboye—who would go on to become his cherished spiritual father and mentor.

Today, he stands as a renowned Nigerian author, televangelist, and the founder and presiding Bishop of the Sword of the Spirit Ministries. Serving as the President of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) since 2021, he provides visionary leadership and spiritual guidance to millions of Pentecostals across the nation.

On this landmark Platinum Jubilee celebration, we honor his unblemished reputation, spiritual integrity, lifetime of impactful service, and devotion to nation-building.
