CAMPUS SECURITY ALERT: SUSPECTED PHONE SNATCHER ARRESTED

A suspected phone snatcher has been apprehended on campus following intelligence reports concerning alleged phone-snatching activities.

The suspect, identified as Musa Jibril from Bokkos, was reportedly tracked by security personnel and apprehended while carrying out an operation on campus.

According to preliminary information, the suspect also allegedly impersonated a military officer.

During questioning, he reportedly admitted to involvement in phone-snatching incidents on campus.

The development highlights the importance of remaining vigilant and promptly reporting suspicious movements or activities to the appropriate security authorities.

Students and members of the campus community are urged to remain alert, safeguard their valuables, and cooperate with security personnel as efforts continue to ensure a safe and secure campus environment.

Gwomshar Colloquium Calls for Revival of Indigenous Foods, Cultural Heritage in Plateau.

PANKSHIN — Stakeholders at the Gwomshar Community Initiative Colloquium in Pankshin, Plateau State, have called for urgent action to preserve indigenous foods and cultural heritage.

The colloquium, themed _“Preserving Our Heritage, Nourishing Our Future,”_ brought together academics, community representatives, youths and traditional custodians to highlight the nutritional, economic, environmental and cultural value of forgotten foods.

Speaking at the event, the Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Education Pankshin (FUEP), Prof. Noel Nenman Wannang, represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Antonia Chukwu, said the increasing adoption of Western food habits was contributing to the decline of indigenous culinary traditions.

He noted that many traditional foods possess important nutritional and medicinal values and urged communities to revive their cultivation and consumption.

The Head of Department, Sustainable Development Studies, FUEP, Dr. Wilfred Biska Lawrence, said indigenous crops could contribute significantly to biodiversity conservation, climate resilience and improved health.

Dr. John W. Darbe urged youths to explore entrepreneurship opportunities in the processing and commercialisation of underutilised indigenous crops, while Assoc. Prof. Dayok Samuel Tanko stressed the importance of indigenous crops in strengthening Nigeria’s food security.

The colloquium also featured a colourful cultural and food exhibition, with the Ngas, Berom, Mwaghavul and Ron communities showcasing traditional dances, attire and indigenous delicacies.

The initiative followed a grant secured by the convener, Miss Favour Dalis, through the TETFund Centre of Excellence FUEP.

In his closing remarks, FUEP Registrar, Mr. Longtong Yadok, urged participants to take the message of the colloquium beyond the event by reintroducing indigenous foods into their homes, farms and daily diets.

FUEP Academic Staff Trained on Grant Writing, High-Impact Journal Publishing.

The Federal University of Education Pankshin (FUEP) has commenced a three-day workshop to strengthen the capacity of its academic staff in grant writing and publishing in high-impact journals.

The workshop, organised by the University’s Directorate of Research, Innovation and Development, is aimed at improving research capacity, access to research funding and the Institution’s visibility nationally and internationally.

Declaring the workshop open, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Noel Wannang, represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic, Prof. Anthonia Chukwu, said his administration is committed to making FUEP more visible through successful grant applications and quality publications in reputable journals.

He urged participants to take the training seriously and acquire practical knowledge that would enhance their research careers and contribute to the growth of the University.

Prof. Wannang also appreciated the resource persons, Prof. Ishaya Y. Longdet and Dr. Richard J. Kutshik of the University of Jos, for accepting to share their expertise with the University community.

In his opening remarks, the Director of Research, Innovation and Development, Prof. Yohanna I. Mallo, thanked the Vice-Chancellor for approving the workshop and creating an enabling environment for research development.

Prof. Mallo described the training as a critical step towards strengthening the University’s research capacity, improving access to research funding, enhancing Institutional visibility and contributing to economic development.

He encouraged participants to be active and practical throughout the training, expressing hope that the knowledge acquired would be effectively applied both locally and internationally.

In a vote of thanks, the Registrar of FUEP, Mr. Longtong Yadok, said the workshop is designed to equip academic staff with the skills required to compete favourably with academics from other Universities for research grants.

He expressed optimism that the expertise being provided by the resource persons would help position FUEP for greater visibility within the global academic community.

At the end of the three-day workshop, academic staff are expected to have improved their skills in grant writing and gained greater capacity to publish research findings in high-impact journals.

FUEP Receives PLASGEOC Sensitisation on Gender-Based Violence, Social Protection.

The Federal University of Education Pankshin (FUEP) has received a sensitisation programme on Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and social protection issues organised by the Plateau State Gender and Equal Opportunities Commission (PLASGEOC).The programme, held at the University, brought together members of staff and students to raise awareness on the various forms of gender-based violence, their causes, consequences and available legal protections.

Representing the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Noel Wannang, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Administration, Prof. Judith Dawulung, welcomed the PLASGEOC team and described the initiative as timely and a privilege for the University community.

She encouraged staff and students to approach the presentations with open minds and take advantage of the knowledge shared.

Chairperson of PLASGEOC, Barr. Olivia Dazyam, who gave an overview of the Commission and its mandate, reaffirmed its commitment to promoting inclusive participation and equal opportunities in Plateau State.

She commended the Plateau State Governor, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, for supporting the sensitisation programme and the establishment of Human Rights Clubs in secondary and tertiary institutions across the state.

In her presentation, Dazyam highlighted different forms of gender-based violence, their causes and consequences, noting that students are particularly vulnerable to some of these abuses.She also outlined laws designed to protect the dignity, rights and safety of citizens, while urging students not to compromise their future for temporary financial gains.

A major highlight of the programme was the presentation of documents to the University management seeking approval for the establishment of a Human Rights Club at FUEP.The Dean, Directorate of Student Affairs, Prof. Katkukar Danjuma Gokum, said the initiative would contribute significantly to protecting students and promoting a safe and conducive learning environment.The Commission’s Director of Media and Investigation, Mrs. Nene Dung, coordinated an interactive question-and-answer session, while the Students’ Union Government (SUG) President, Comr. L. L. FUE Pankshin Boosts Entrepreneurship Education as Academic Staff Receive 3-Day Effectuation Training.

PANKSHIN — Academic staff of the Federal University of Education Pankshin (FUEP) have undergone a three-day intensive training on Teaching Entrepreneurship with Effectuation, designed to strengthen the University’s capacity to deliver practical and innovative entrepreneurship education.

The training was organised by the National Universities Commission (NUC), Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), and GETrust, with facilitators from the University of Maiduguri.

Declaring the programme open, the Vice Chancellor of FUE Pankshin, Prof. Noel Wannang, commended the organisers for introducing the training, describing the use of effectuation in teaching entrepreneurship as timely and worthwhile.

Represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Administration, Prof. Judith Dawulung, the Vice Chancellor stressed the need to equip students with entrepreneurial knowledge and skills that can enhance self-reliance, creativity and innovation.He assured that the University would continue to embrace programmes capable of stimulating creativity and producing meaningful outcomes for both students and the institution.

Speaking earlier, the Director of the University’s Entrepreneurship Development Centre, Dr. Mangkut Zephaniah, highlighted the relevance of the training to academic staff and appreciated the University Management for creating a conducive environment for the programme.He also commended the facilitators and participants for their commitment to the three-day engagement.

The facilitators, Dr. Abubakar Adamu of the Department of Business Administration and Dr. Mohammed Dauda of the Department of Agricultural Economics, both from the University of Maiduguri, addressed participants on Pedagogical Principles for Teaching Entrepreneurship to Non-Business Students, Effectuation: Background and Principles, and Effectuation Entrepreneurship.

The training provided practical insights into the Bird-in-Hand, Lemonade, Crazy Quilt and Pilot-in-the-Plane principles, as well as Gardening Activism and the Daria Alekseeva case study.

Participants also explored how to conduct effectual interviews for developing case studies and examined how a “Value Creator” mindset can transform professional careers.

At the end of the programme, Prof. Asilika Allu, a participant, presented an overview of the training, followed by an interactive session featuring questions, answers and contributions from participants and facilitators.

In his closing remarks, the University’s Registrar, Mr. Longtong Godwill Yadok, commended the organisers and urged participants to put the knowledge acquired into practice.

He noted that the training would contribute significantly to upscaling the University’s capacity in entrepreneurship education.

The programme concluded with the presentation of certificates to the Vice Chancellor, Deputy Vice Chancellors and other participating academic staff.

FUE Pankshin Inaugurates Students Anti-Corruption Vanguard, Commends ICPC

The Federal University of Education Pankshin (FUEP) has inaugurated a Students Anti-Corruption Vanguard (SAV) as part of efforts to strengthen transparency, accountability and ethical conduct within the institution.

The Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Noel Wannang, commended the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) for its sustained efforts in educating citizens on the dangers of corruption, bribery and other related offences.

Prof. Wannang spoke while declaring open a sensitisation workshop organised by the University’s Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU), with the theme, “Ethical Leadership and Transparency: Building a Corruption-Free Tertiary Institution.”

Represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Administration, Prof. Judith Dawulung, the Vice-Chancellor stressed the strong connection between national stability and institutional morality.

He said a corruption-free academic environment is achievable when students, as future leaders, embrace ethical decision-making and take responsibility for promoting integrity.

Prof. Wannang also commended the University’s ACTU and the ICPC Zonal Office, Makurdi, for their commitment to the fight against corruption, describing the University’s ACTU as among the top ten most effective Institutional Anti-Corruption Units in Nigerian tertiary institutions.

He charged the newly inaugurated student leaders to resist compromise and reject all forms of academic and administrative dishonesty.

Earlier, the Chairperson of ACTU, FUEP, Mrs. Chidubem Onyejeme, said transparency remains a critical foundation for academic excellence.

She noted that a corruption-free tertiary institution creates an environment where merit thrives and character is developed, calling for collective vigilance and commitment to ethical standards across Universities.

Inaugurating the Students Anti-Corruption Vanguard, the Resident Anti-Corruption Commissioner (RACC), represented by the Head of Legal Services, ICPC Zonal Office, Makurdi, Mr. Anas Kolo, reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to working with tertiary institutions to prevent and combat corrupt practices.

Kolo urged members of the University community to see the fight against corruption as a shared responsibility rather than merely an administrative policy.

The sensitisation workshop featured presentations by the Head, Media Services and Communication Unit, ICPC Zonal Office, Makurdi, Mrs. Mary Atabo, and the State Accountant, Mr. Life Kakogbe.

The speakers addressed the operational procedures, ethical guidelines and legal frameworks guiding the activities of the Students Anti-Corruption Vanguard.

Also speaking, the Registrar of the University, Mr. Longtong Godwill Yadok, appreciated the ICPC, ACTU and other stakeholders for their contributions to the success of the programme.

He reaffirmed the commitment of the University administration to supporting initiatives that promote transparency, accountability and ethical conduct.

The event culminated in the official inauguration, oath-taking and swearing-in of the Students Anti-Corruption Vanguard executives.

The newly inaugurated officers are Chiya Rwfwang Ezra, President; Guset Delight Abednego, Vice President; Satzen Sartang Wubang, Liaison Officer; Yau Monica, Treasurer; Haruna Ismailia Musa, Publicity Secretary; and Harisu Tanimu Muhammad, Secretary.

In his acceptance speech, the President of the Vanguard, Chiya Rwfwang Ezra, pledged the commitment of the executive to serving as ambassadors of transparency and integrity.

He said the Vanguard would uphold high moral standards and actively support efforts to expose and discourage corrupt practices within the University community.

Ezra expressed the determination of the new leadership to promote accountability, ethical values and responsible citizenship among students.

FUE Pankshin Women Association Inaugurated, Launches Free Medical Outreach.

The Federal University of Education, Pankshin Women Association (FUEPAWA) has been formally inaugurated, with the new association commencing its activities with a free medical outreach for staff and members of the university community.

The inauguration ceremony, held at the Federal University of Education, Pankshin, brought together members of the university management, staff, students, government representatives and other stakeholders.Speaking at the event, the Vice Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Noel Wannang, congratulated the women on the formal inauguration of FUEPAWA and commended their contributions to family stability, the academic environment and society.

Prof. Wannang particularly praised the decision to combine the inauguration with a medical outreach, describing the initiative as a practical demonstration of the Association’s commitment to the welfare of members of the university community.

While inaugurating the new executive committee, the Vice Chancellor declared that “the world is a far better place with a woman in it,” and assured FUEPAWA of the continued support of the University Management for initiatives that promote human capacity development and community care.

Earlier, the Chairperson of the Planning Committee, Dr. Adenike Seyi Odewumi, traced the history of the women’s association to 1999, when it was conceived by the late Mrs. Martha Ibrahim Bulus to promote unity, peace and development among women staff of the institution, irrespective of their status.

According to her, the Association was subsequently championed by wives of successive Chief Executives of the institution, with support from the wives of Registrars.

She explained that following the conversion and upgrade of the institution from a College to a University, the Association was transformed, rebranded and rechristened the Federal University of Education Pankshin Women Association (FUEPAWA).

She added that the Association is now being led by Mrs. Vivian Nkeruka Wannang, wife of the Vice Chancellor.

In her acceptance speech, the newly inaugurated President of FUEPAWA, Mrs. Vivian Nkeruka Wannang, expressed appreciation for the confidence reposed in her and the executive committee.

Mrs. Wannang described her new responsibility as both humbling and honourable, pledging to work with members to advance the objectives of the Association.

She identified five strategic pillars that will guide her administration: welfare and unity; capacity building and empowerment; health and wellness; community service and impact; and organisational growth.

The inauguration also featured presentations aimed at promoting personal development and health awareness.

The Director of the University’s TETFund Centre of Excellence, Prof. Zipporah Duguryil, delivered a presentation titled “United We Rise: Building a Brighter Tomorrow Today.”

Dr. Elekwachi Victor and Dr. Okan Adara also delivered presentations on breast and cervical cancer, highlighting the importance of awareness, early detection and preventive healthcare.

Beneficiaries of the free medical outreach received services including blood pressure, blood glucose and hepatitis tests, as well as eye-care services. The Students’ Union Government (SUG) complemented the initiative with free barbing services.

A goodwill message from the Deputy Governor of Plateau State, Mrs. Ngo Josephine Piyo, represented by the Liaison Officer, Kanke Constituency, Hon. Jiritmwa Goyit, focused on the importance of women’s inclusion and gender equity in governance.

The Deputy Governor’s representative stressed that sustainable development would remain difficult to achieve without the active participation of women across sectors of public life.

Other goodwill messages came from the Chairman of Pankshin Local Government Council, Hon. Felix Gonung, represented by his Secretary, Hon. Ishaya Dilkuk; the Unit Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Pankshin, represented by Mrs. Grace Fankun; and the Chairman of the Committee of Deans, Prof. Dung Mohammed Dauda.

The Registrar of the Federal University of Education, Pankshin, Mr. Longtong Godwill Yadok, and his wife, Mrs. Stephanie Yadok, who serves as Secretary of FUEPAWA, delivered the vote of thanks.

PANKSHIN — The newly appointed Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) Board of Trustee Member representing the North Central Zone, Dr. Hassan Abdulrahman Ocholi, has inspected TETFund-funded projects at the Federal University of Education, Pankshin (FUEP), as part of efforts to assess their progress, identify challenges and strengthen intervention delivery.

Dr. Ocholi led a TETFund delegation on a familiarisation visit to the University, where he assessed ongoing projects, completed interventions and content-based initiatives supported by the Fund.

Receiving the delegation, the Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Education, Pankshin, Prof. Noel Nen’man Wannang, welcomed the Zonal Trustee and expressed appreciation for the visit.

Prof. Wannang particularly commended Dr. Ocholi for taking immediate steps to familiarise himself with the University shortly after his appointment, describing the gesture as an indication of his commitment to understanding the needs and challenges of Institutions within the zone.

The Vice-Chancellor also expressed appreciation to TETFund for its interventions at the University, noting that several projects had been completed while others were ongoing.

He, however, drew the attention of the delegation to some areas of distress within the Institution that require further intervention.

Responding, Dr. Ocholi thanked the University management for the warm reception and assured the Institution that its distressed projects and requests would receive appropriate attention.

He said the purpose of the visit was not only to familiarise himself with the University but also to gain firsthand knowledge of the status of TETFund interventions and the challenges confronting their effective implementation.

As part of the visit, Dr. Ocholi commissioned the renovated and remodelled Lecture Halls and Offices executed under the 2024 TETFund Annual Intervention at the Federal University of Education Pankshin.

The newly commissioned facilities represent one of the completed TETFund projects in the University.

The TETFund Trustee further assured the Institution of his commitment to sustained engagement and promised to return to the University in the near future.

Earlier, the Acting Director of Physical Planning, Arc. Joseph Inuwa, presented a detailed slide presentation on TETFund projects in the University, outlining completed and ongoing projects as well as challenges requiring attention.

Registrar of the University, Longtong Yadok, appreciated the TETFund delegation for the familiarisation visit and expressed optimism that the engagement would further enhance the relationship between the University and TETFund.

Dr. Ocholi was accompanied by members of the TETFund delegation, coordinated by Mrs. Kor Kpenbeen, including architects, engineers and members of the Fund’s media team.

The visit provided an opportunity for the TETFund team to obtain firsthand information on the implementation of its interventions at Federal University of Education Pankshin and engage the University management on areas requiring additional support.

522 Students Matriculate for 2026 Contact Session at FUE Pankshin.

PANKSHIN — A total of 522 students have been formally admitted into the 2026 Contact Session of the Federal University of Education (FUE), Pankshin, under its part-time programme.

The matriculation ceremony, held at the University Auditorium, brought together university authorities, academic staff, students, parents and other stakeholders to mark the formal commencement of the students’ academic journey.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Jos (UNIJOS), Prof. Tanko Ishaya, said the two institutions were committed to exposing students to contemporary and innovative teaching strategies that would enhance their professional development as educators.

Prof. Ishaya, represented by the Dean, Faculty of Education, University of Jos, Prof. Grace Chollom, said the partnership between UNIJOS and FUE Pankshin would continue to provide students with quality educational experiences backed by experienced academics and professional support staff.

He, however, warned the newly admitted students against cultism, examination malpractice, assault and other anti-social or criminal activities.

According to him, such misconduct attracts severe penalties which could jeopardise or even terminate a student’s academic pursuit.

The Vice Chancellor urged the students to familiarise themselves with the universities’ policies on academic integrity and discipline, stressing that grievances should be reported through the appropriate authorities rather than taking the law into their own hands.

The Vice Chancellor of FUE Pankshin, Prof. Noel Nen’man Ndalbeh Wannang, also reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to producing graduates distinguished by sound character, competence and integrity.

Prof. Wannang, represented by the Dean, College of Sciences, Prof. Dung Mohammed, commended the longstanding collaboration between FUE Pankshin and the University of Jos, noting that the relationship dates back to when the institution was still a college.

He said the institution had elected to sustain and strengthen the partnership even after attaining full university status.

Prof. Wannang charged the new students to abide by the Students’ Handbook, protect university property, shun cultism and examination malpractice, and respect constituted authorities, lecturers and fellow students.

He also appealed to parents and guardians to guide their children and wards towards responsible conduct and a decent campus life.

The Vice Chancellor condemned the reported assault of a female student by some other female students, stressing that violence and other forms of indiscipline would not be tolerated.

The Registrar of the University of Jos, Dr. Rejoice Songden, represented by Mrs. Timbyen Rimdap, administered the matriculation oath to the newly admitted students.

The Deans of the various Colleges also formally presented the students for matriculation.

Goodwill messages were delivered by the Part-Time Students’ Union Government President, Nathan Jerry, and the Director of External Programmes, University of Jos, Prof. Solomon Mangvwat, who was represented by the Centre Manager, Dr. Din Sarki.

The highlight of the ceremony was the formal administration of the matriculation oath to 522 students admitted into the 2026 Contact Session.

The Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Education, Pankshin (FUE Pankshin), Prof. Noel N. Wannang, has extended warm greetings and best wishes to the Muslim community, staff and students of the University as they commemorate Eid-ul-Maulud.

In a goodwill message, the Vice-Chancellor congratulated Muslim faithful on the occasion, describing Eid-ul-Maulud as an important period for reflection on the life, teachings and virtues of Prophet Muhammad.

Prof. Wannang urged members of the University community to use the celebration to promote peace, love, compassion, tolerance and mutual respect, noting that these values are essential to building a harmonious academic environment and a peaceful society.

He further encouraged staff and students to embrace unity and peaceful coexistence irrespective of religious or cultural differences, while remaining committed to the pursuit of knowledge, excellence and service to humanity.

The Vice-Chancellor prayed for peace, prosperity and continued progress for the University, Plateau State and Nigeria, wishing all Muslim brothers and sisters a happy, peaceful and blessed Eid-ul-Maulud celebration.
