CELEBRATING 100 DAYS IN OFFICE: THE STATE OF OUR UNION
On the 24th day of September 2021, a new government of the National Association of Ikot Abasi Students (NAIKAS), University of Uyo Chapter was ushered in to pilot the affairs of the Association for a period of one year.
I was saddled with the responsibility of spearheading this Government as the President.
Immediately I was sworn in, I started work, knowing fully well that whether or not we will go forward as a union is dependent on my ability to interpret the role I was given and to deliver the needed results for the edification of man and the glorification of God.
I started by going back to the carefully documented yearnings of the people, what they wanted when I consulted them in groups and individually and what I promised them in my manifesto. I knew that if I was ever going to be a successful President, I have to keep to my words and let them be my bond.
To the glory of God, I am happy to present the following as my achievements in the last 100 days. It has not been without seemingly insurmountable challenges but we, collectively as the Executive body, have been able to rise up to the challenges of redefining our purpose, our mission and our mandate.
The scorecard below enumerates what we have done and what we have started but yet to conclude in the last 100 days in office:
THE SCORECARD OF A PEOPLE-ORIENTED LEADERSHIP:
β
1. Purchase and presentation of a brand new table and other basic amenities for use during and after my administration.
β
2. Purchase and presentation of office equipment to the Secretary-General's office.
β
3. Organisation of weekly Congresses with lots of 'articles of Enjoyment' πππ
β
4. Ongoing training of Almost fifty (50) Ikot Abasi students in Solar Engineering and Installations, Electrical Wirings and fittings, Painting and Interior decoration, graciously sponsored by the National President of Mboho Edemaya, ESV (Elder) Kufre Ufot.
β
5. Ongoing training of 20 Ikot Abasi Students in areas like Catering, Makeovers, Leather Works, ICT and Fashion Designing, sponsored by Hon. Ukpono Udomah, the very affable Supervisor of Finance and Social Intervention in Ikot Abasi LGA through the New breed for Sustainable Development.
β
6. Ongoing training of some students in Driving and road worthiness, sponsored by the astute and very cerebral Bursar of the University of Uyo, Mr. Imoh Markson.
This brings the total number of students whose sources of revenue generation and mobilisation before and after graduation will be increased through entrepreneurial training and development to 70+.
β
7. Setting up of the committee for the first ever NAIKAS University of Uyo Chapter Health Day, where FREE mosquito nets, antimalarial and other drugs, condoms and free HIV/AIDS testing will be a possession of all of God's Children that are from Ikot Abasi in the University of Uyo.
β
8. Representing, defending and projecting the interest of Ikot Abasi students in all ramifications and at all levels of Government.
β
9. Enhancing the ethical and attitudinal reorientation of the students and improving their leadership skills through constant mentoring offered by leaders of no mean repute, through courtesy calls, home visits and events.
β
10. Prompt intervention in Students' issues and increasing the number of congressmen and women during our weekly Congresses.
β
11. A free training on Cyber security to be sponsored by Barr. George Ufot of George Ufot and Co Legal Practitioners and Solicitors is still in the pipeline.
β
12. Payment of School fees to indigent students by the CEO of Hensek Integrated Services who is also the Vice Chairman 2 of Akwa Ibom's Maintain Peace Movement and a fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, Engr. Uwem Okoko, FNSE is still in the pipeline.
The above mouth-watering achievements would never have been possible without the assistance and cooperation of my fellow executive members who worked assiduously with me to change the narratives and provide the path for future administrations to follow.
Words alone are not enough to thank my predecessors on whose shoulders I am standing.
To all those who keep supporting us financially and otherwise, May God bless you! We've done these through your help in just 100 days, imagine what we'll achieve in the remaining months with your continued support! Just imagine!!
I end this piece by quoting the Honourable John F. Kennedy, a former President of the United States of America who said: "And so my fellow Americans, ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country.
"My fellow citizens of the world, ask not what America will do for you, but what together we can do for the freedom of man.
"Finally, whether you are citizens of America or citizens of the world, ask of us here the same high standards of strength and sacrifice which we ask of you. With a good conscience, our only sure reward, with history the final judge of our deeds, let us go forth to lead the land we love, asking His blessing and His help but knowing that here on earth God's work must truly be our own."
And so I say, ask not what NAIKAS Uniuyo Chapter will do for you but what you in your little or big capacity can do for NAIKAS Uniuyo Chapter, knowing fully well that here on Earth, God's work (like ensuring that thousands of school leavers are gainfully employed through entrepreneurship and skills acquisition) must truly be our own!
Noah Isang Fred
President
NAIKAS Uniuyo Chapter.
