Jheronimus Academy of Data Science Dedicated to create the next generation of data scientists. Jheronimus Academy of Data Science is a unique academy situated in the Netherlands.

The Eindhoven University of Technology, Tilburg University, the Province of Brabant and the municipality of 's-Hertogenbosch are the founding partners of JADS. In three different locations Data Science can be studied, researched and applied through bachelor and graduate programs, PDeng education, Data Science Centers and incorporation into existing ecosystems. 🏃 How can an AI-driven health coach provide personalized recommendations while helping people understand the reasoning behind them?

That challenge was central to Yuni Hafsari’s EngD final project with Almende: Design and Implementation of an Explainable AI-Driven Health Coaching System for Personalized Activity Recommendation.

Almende works with universities, public organizations and businesses to turn research ideas into practical technology. Smart Health is one of its key innovation themes, focusing on digital solutions that support healthcare and people's well-being.

Within this environment, Yuni designed and implemented an AI-driven health coaching system for personalized activity recommendations, with explainability as an explicit part of the design.

She successfully presented the results of her work and brought her EngD project to a close.

⚡ Energy systems increasingly combine different technologies and sources. Making effective use of the data across those units brings its own challenges.

That was the context for Knarik Sahakyan’s EngD final project: Data consolidation and optimization for a multi-unit Energy Hub.

Knarik carried out her project within ILUSTRE Lab at JADS. The lab works on AI and data science innovations that support the transition to clean energy and improve the efficiency and effectiveness of energy and water systems.

Within this environment, Knarik focused on bringing data from multiple Energy Hub units together and using it as a basis for optimization.

On Friday, she successfully presented the results of her work and brought her EngD project to a close.

Launched in a chapel, powered by a higher power: computing power, that is. ⛪⚡
Yesterday, we were proud to host the official launch of Supercomputing Brabant at JADS in 's-Hertogenbosch. This new initiative is a partnership between BOM, Tilburg University, TU/e and the Province of Noord-Brabant.

For many organisations, limited access to high-performance computing, specialist knowledge and resources stands in the way of scaling AI. Supercomputing Brabant aims to change that. It combines large-scale AI compute power with expertise and a strong regional network, to help companies and institutions turn ambitious AI ideas into practical, scalable solutions.

The launch also made one thing clear: compute power alone is not enough. The technology is the enabler. The ecosystem will determine its impact.

🌊 Secure data exchange is an important part of protecting critical infrastructure.
That challenge was central to Manisha Takale’s EngD final project: Designing a Secure Data Exchange Architecture for NEPTARGOS: Reusing and Extending OceanGuard.

NEPTARGOS is an interdisciplinary research project focused on increasing the cyber-physical security and resilience of critical infrastructure in the North Sea. The project brings together expertise from research, industry and civil society to address threats that cross the boundary between digital and physical systems.

Within this context, Manisha worked on designing a secure architecture for data exchange.

Today, she successfully presented her work and completed an important milestone in her EngD journey.

🌊 How do you move a machine learning application from development toward reliable use in practice? That challenge was at the heart of Aditya Dhinavahi’s EngD final project at JADS: OceanGuard: Taking the MLOps Route to Production.

Aditya carried out his project within MARIT-D, a European collaboration focused on the fight against maritime trafficking. MARIT-D developed a data-driven tool to monitor unusual shipping movements and help law enforcement agencies identify suspicious activity.

Within this context, Aditya explored the MLOps route toward bringing a machine learning application into an operational environment.

This week, he successfully presented the results of his work and completed an important milestone in his EngD journey.

Op donderdag 10 september vindt bij Grasso in het Innovatie Kwartier Den Bosch de zesde editie van Open Mic & BBQ plaats, georganiseerd door Elevate-X en Grasso.

Tijdens deze avond komen ondernemers, professionals, studenten en investeerders uit de wereld van data en ICT samen. Een informele setting om ideeën en ervaringen uit te wisselen, nieuwe mensen te ontmoeten en mogelijke samenwerkingen te verkennen.

A good pitch can help an AI startup turn an idea into a conversation with the right people.

Applications for the AI Pitch Competition 2026 are now open. The competition, organized by Erasmus Enterprise, Brabant Development Agency (BOM) and IO+, brings AI entrepreneurs together with investors, companies and industry experts.

Selected participants can develop their pitch through the LEVEL UP AI Track on 28 September and a Pitch Workshop at Willem II Stadion on 27 October. The Grand Finale takes place during AI Summit Brainport on 12 November, with prizes ranging from €10,000 to €50,000.

For founders, it is an opportunity to sharpen their story, receive feedback and meet people who can help them take the next step.

The new academic year is underway at JADS.

Our first-year Master’s students started with the Statistics Bootcamp: an intensive week to refresh and strengthen their statistical knowledge. It helps students begin the program with a shared foundation, so they are ready to work with more advanced data science and AI topics during the semester.

Statistics soon gave way to spaghetti, tape, rubber bands and marshmallows. Yesterday’s challenge: build the tallest possible tower with these materials.

The winning team, Eline, Mark, Joeke, Diego and Adolfo, reached 135 cm. That is 5.46% higher than the previous measured tower and 55.17% higher than the result in 2023. A result worth measuring twice.

🔐 How do you turn software risk into something an organization can actually assess and act on?

That question is at the heart of Prakash Baburaj's EngD project with Tidal Control: Quantifying Software Risk: A multilayered approach.

Today, August 27, Prakash presents his final work at JADS. His project explores software risk across multiple layers, connecting a technical challenge with the broader need to manage security and compliance.

His presentation also concludes our three-day run of EngD finals this week. From manufacturing to elderly care and software risk, each project started with a very different real-world challenge.
