The Eindhoven University of Technology, Tilburg University, the Province of Brabant and the municipality of 's-Hertogenbosch are the founding partners of JADS. In three different locations Data Science can be studied, researched and applied through bachelor and graduate programs, PDeng education, Data Science Centers and incorporation into existing ecosystems. “Your mission: restore JAX! All parts have been scattered across our campus, and today we need your help to bring JAX back together.” That is how our colleague Anique Kuijpers welcomed the young visitors from JINC today. And what a wonderful burst of energy they brought to our campus. 😁

Every child, every young person, has talent. But those who grow up in an environment with socioeconomic challenges have far fewer opportunities to reach their full potential.

That is why JINC, together with education and businesses, helps young people on their way to a strong start in the labor market. And this year, once again, together with JADS, Jheronimus Academy of Data Science. Meaningful work, and great to do this together.

On 27 May, our colleague Dr. Plato Leung will lead the workshop AI-supported validated learning for early stage startups at The Gate.

The workshop helps early-stage founders use AI to better understand which customer problems are worth exploring. Topics include formulating a clear problem statement, identifying assumptions, and preparing effective customer interviews.

For JADS, this is a valuable example of how our colleagues share knowledge with entrepreneurs, partners, and the wider community.

JADS alumnus Andy Huang turned his broad interest in AI into an award-winning Master’s thesis and a first role as a data scientist.

His thesis focused on the early detection of dementia, a complex healthcare challenge where explainable data science can support better understanding and earlier action. Shortly after graduating, Andy started at Albert Heijn, where he now works on data-driven decisions for store layout and shelf space.

His story shows how data science connects different worlds: healthcare, business, research, and everyday practice.

On Monday afternoon, our chapel became a temporary classroom for 70 communication students from Avans Hogeschool, Den Bosch.

We were glad to open this space to students in our city. The change of setting gave them a practical start for their assignment on repositioning. What does repositioning involve, and where do you begin?

They learned from people with hands-on experience:
- Puck and Nandi from Het Noordbrabants Museum, on how a repositioning project starts and why an organization chooses to take it on
- Mark, on the rebranding of Den Bosch and how Zin In Den Bosch creates momentum through its network.

It has been 250 days since Stan and Cas got married. This week, the Netherlands may be heading toward 25 degrees, but we are still making room for an Oeteldonk scarf.

Stan and Cas met about seven years ago at JADS in ’s-Hertogenbosch, where they both followed the Master’s program Data Science in Business & Entrepreneurship. What started with studying, group projects, Carnival and a friend group built around a sandwich toaster, became a story of friendship, community and love.

On their wedding day, Stan and Cas returned to the JADS garden, the place where they first met, to see each other for the first time in their wedding outfits.

JADS is a collaboration between Tilburg University and Eindhoven University of Technology in Den Bosch. It brings together data science, entrepreneurship and real-world challenges, but also people from different backgrounds who learn, work and grow together.

A real business challenge can be a strong starting point for collaboration.
Linde Consult came to JADS with a practical question: how do you move from maintenance-intensive data work to a more scalable, AI-driven platform?

Via a Master Challenge, JADS students worked on data acquisition, data quality, AI-supported enrichment, and tooling that helped turn that question into something much bigger. The collaboration contributed to product development, fresh insights, and even a new venture: Venactio.

For Eugen Falca, studying data science meant more than completing assignments. During the Master Data Science in Business and Entrepreneurship at JADS, he combined his studies with organizing the Benelux Algorithm Programming Contest (⚡by W.I.S.V. 'Christiaan Huygens'​) and supporting students in building a competitive programming team at Tilburg University.

It is a strong example of how learning at JADS takes shape through initiative, collaboration, and real-world experience.

Thanks to our trainees and alumnus, our EngD information session at JADS - Jheronimus Academy of Data Science became a practical conversation about the questions many master graduates are working through.

During the session, participants asked what the EngD route looks like in practice, how it compares to a PhD or a first job in industry, what backgrounds fit the program, and how the balance between coursework and real projects works.

Current trainees and alumnus shared their experiences openly, from the kind of technical and professional development the program offers to the reality of working on applied data science challenges in collaboration with organizations from different sectors.

For organizations, that also offered a clearer view of what an EngD trainee can contribute: applied problem-solving, academic depth, and experience working on real data science challenges.

Valedictorians Eva and Patryk told their fellow Master graduates today that JADS became more than a place to study, it became a community.

They reflected on a program that connected disciplines, companies, ideas, and people, and on everything that happened alongside the hard work: late nights, broken code, campus movie nights, carnival, music, and the shared moments that shaped their time here.

As this chapter comes to a close, they reminded everyone to pause and take it in. For each graduate, JADS - Jheronimus Academy of Data Science will remain a personal memory, a milestone, and a moment of growth that stays with them far beyond graduation.
