Two friends at ESP. Your first look inside.

Farrah, 19, is from Saudi Arabia and loves meeting new people, volleyball and tennis.

Sarah, 21, is from the Netherlands. Her curiosity about an international programme and meeting people from around the world brought her to ESP.

Both would have loved to join a class before starting. Now they’re helping prospective students do just that.

ESP graduates Eva and Yan won the Bachelor Project category at the ENPHE Thesis Awards 2026 in Tartu, Estonia, with CRISP.

Developed through their Professional Assignment Project at ESP, CRISP is an AI learning partner that helps physiotherapy students practise clinical reasoning.

Choosing a test is one thing. Explaining why you chose it, what you expect to find and how the result changes your next step is where CRISP gets curious.

Measure the angle. Not the person. A goniometer can tell us how far a joint moves. It cannot tell us who someone is.

At ESP, we learn to assess movement, ask questions and listen. Respect belongs in that practice, both with patients and with the classmate beside us.

Today, on Purple Friday, the entire ESP community stands with our LGBTQ+ students, staff, and alumni. Everyone deserves to learn and practise without hiding who they are or who they love.

Wear purple. Make room for each other. Carry that respect into every other day.

From transparency sheets to PowerPoint, Bas has seen ESP change quite a bit over the years.

As our Program Coordinator, he has watched teaching methods develop, the curriculum evolve, new topics appear and the team change along the way.

But when Bas looks at ESP today, there are also things he still recognises from those earlier years.

The atmosphere is still there. So is the ambition.

A lot has changed in 25 years. It is nice to know that not everything has.

This Friday, 18 September, we celebrate 25 years of ESP and the community that has shaped it.

What should ESP celebrate after 25 years?

Maarten has a simple answer. The people who have been part of it.

Over 25 years, ESP has educated physiotherapists who have taken their knowledge and experience into clinics and communities around the world. Many have also found their way back, contributing as PAP clients, clinical instructors and members of the wider ESP community.

For Maarten, that continued connection is something to be proud of. Graduation may finish the programme, but it does not necessarily finish someone’s relationship with ESP.

On 18 September, we bring those different generations together for ESP25. Ticket registration is almost closed, with the final information available on the ESP25 page.

Intro Week 2026 is a wrap.

ESP Class of 2029 has spent the week getting to know the programme, Amsterdam and, most importantly, each other.

There were workshops, Games Day, plenty of movement and plenty of moments together. A full first week and the beginning of a new journey for this group.

Boxes unpacked. Benches moved. Jump photo achieved. ESP is ready. 😉

Last week, these rooms were still full of boxes and moving chaos. Today, everything is in place for tomorrow.

Our practical classes have a new home in B3.06 and B3.09 on the third floor of the B wing. D0.50, you served us well.

A huge thank you to Chloe, Harper, Jasper, Max, Sarah, Kyriaki, Annisha and Kenny, together with the ESP staff, for making it happen.

What did ESP get really right?

According to Jan Jaap, it was bringing the world to Amsterdam.

Instead of travelling around the world to educate physiotherapists, ESP created an international classroom here in Amsterdam, bringing together people from different countries, backgrounds and generations.

Different stories, different journeys, one shared purpose: becoming physiotherapists and making the world a little better.

Some stay in the Netherlands. Some return home. Others continue somewhere completely new. That is the ESP journey.

This September, many of those journeys will cross again at ESP25.

Amsterdam is having a hot summer. Adrien’s photo clearly had other plans. ❄️

Meet Adrien Lavigne, who will soon begin his ESP journey as part of the Class of 2029.

What attracts Adrien most to physiotherapy is the human journey: the positive social impact, the fascinating work with the body, and the opportunity to support people through recovery.

As a sports lover, he understands how deeply injury recovery can affect people’s lives. He is also looking forward to international internships from Year 1 and becoming part of an international class and learning environment.

Welcome, Adrien. We are looking forward to seeing you soon.
