The team of the first ever summer programme on the Psychedelic Universe! We thank all students who took part in this inaugural programme and appreciate both their curiosity and the valuable insights they brought to class every day ! It is because of minds like these that it is possible to explore the lesser known aspects of history and science🌌.
Also, this programme would not be possible without the knowledgable and passionate academic directors Erik Davis and Christian Greer! Thank you all!

It has been an excellent first year of the psychedelic universe programme!

In this two-week summer program, students embarked on an exploration of psychedelic consciousness through various historical and cultural lenses. They gained a historical and anthropological understanding of psychedelic use and culture, highlighting aspects often neglected in the emerging field of psychedelic science.

Additionally, this amazing poster was made by one of the Psychedelic Universe students ( )! It features both academic directors - Erik Davis and Christian Greer ( )as well as some of the figures that were studied in class (McKenna, Allegro, Maria Sabina, etc).

Last weekend we held the first academic opening of Summer School 2024! This marked the beginning of the first four programmes of the summer and as hopefully highlighted in the pictures, The Summer Programmes Office Team is very happy to finally be kicking off this season.

We are especially excited to be introducing two new courses in this first cohort: “The Psychedelic Universe: Global Perspectives on Higher Consciousness” and “Addressing Conflict: Peacebuilding in Theory and Praxis.” Equally exciting, our staple course “Introduction to Sexuality Studies” also commenced during the academic opening.

Not to forget - The Pre-University Honours Programme: Business Innovation & Entrepreneurship, which welcomes students between 16 and 19 years old , has also started this week. Whilst the pre-university students did not participate in the academic opening, we made sure to organize a welcome party for them as well!

If you are participating in any of these programmes, please mention us in your Amsterdam or Summer School related stories! We are eager to see the experience from your perspective and share it with other students.☀️

The first programmes of the summer will kick off this weekend! ☀️ To better plan your days off, here is part two of our “Places to visit” guide!

1. Discover Paradiso, a unique event space in a former church. With an impressive lineup of concerts each week, it’s the ideal spot to experience both popular and emerging artists. If you’re a concert lover, be sure to add this venue to your Amsterdam bucket list.

2. Check out Kriterion, a cozy cinema near Roeterseiland campus- the campus you’ll frequent during your time in Amsterdam. Founded by students in 1945, the cinema still serves the student crowd, arthouse cinema fans, and loyal locals 65 years later.

3. The Amsterdam based artist Street art Frankey, known for his urban intervention art, is showcasing his latest works at Wanrooij Gallery in June. “Frankey’s Wildhouse” features vibrant murals, detailed stencils, and interactive installations.

4. Discover Sloterplas Beach in Amsterdam West! Perfect for picnics, swimming, or relaxing with a book, it’s a popular spot for locals and a great place to unwind!

5. Visit Foam Photography Museum in the heart of Amsterdam, showcasing all forms of photography, from art to photojournalism. This summer, FOAM is showcasing “The Rebels” by Janette Beckman, documenting underground movements and social justice, and “Photography Through the Lens of AI,” examining how AI impacts our perception of reality.

We hope that these recommendations inspire your time in Amsterdam and make you more excited for the upcoming summer adventures! See you soon! 🌻

We still have some spots left for our two long standing programmes on sexuality. Our Introduction to Sexuality Studies programme provides an excellent interdisciplinary approach to the important debates around sexuality and gender in the social sciences.

If you are already well versed in this field and would like to expand your knowledge in an international classroom alongside other experts, then we recommend our advanced 4-week programme, Summer Institute on Sexuality, Culture and Society. This programme is divided into two blocks, each with four topics for in depth study. Students can choose to study either one or both.

Head to our website for more info, or email [email protected] for any questions.
