Theatre as Communal Experience
This theatre workshop aims at gathering around the necessity of grassroots, multidisciplinary, multilingual, transculturalartistic expression based on theatre, music, singings, visual arts, voice and body performance.
We explore the basics of the performative practice: posture, movement, presence, body, space, games and the voice in many of their expressions.
Our voices breathe and engage in spoken word, text and poetry.
Our bodies play roles and accompany impro’s and storytelling.
Our practice originates from ourselves: memories, stories and sounds of stones and steps, images of repopulated land, memories of touching, smell of seaweed.

Three classes: 12, 19, 26 April 14:00-17:00
Participants can attend one or more classes but it is highly recommended to follow all three of them.

Mask Workshop
a multidisciplinary workshop of masks, beats and theatre

The process of masks making with mask acting combined! We start by creating masks that fit our emotions and our imagination. We learn to wear those masks and we embody our imagination by using beats and rhythms and by creating awareness of our presence in the space. We also practice the basics of theatre: posture, movement, body in space, breathing and voice in many of their expressions.

Our practice is sensorial and originates from ourselves: memories, stories, sounds of stones and steps, images of repopulated land, reminiscence of touching, smell of seaweed.

Attendance at session 1 and 2 is required to be able to join session 3

Today, as these achievements are targeted by heavy attacks and attempts at destruction, international silence is turning into complicity.
Yet solidarity continues to grow, and hope still stands.
In Astarotheatro, we come together to raise our voices for Rojava’s struggle for freedom.

Tell the Bees

As the archipelago is slowly silenced, who will tell the bees?
A theatre performance of poetry, acting presence, alarming beats and a resounding flute.
A cyclical call to tune in to nature, at least for the time being.

In line with AstaroTheatro’s grassroots dedication in crafting original theatrical content, this performance originates from the performers themselves. It aims at including and involving all audience in a participatory experience.

The stage of AstaroTheatro is open for all performing arts: sing your loveliest song, dance your way through the galaxy, play your ancestors’ instrument, perform the monologue of your life, read your poetry of resistance, dress up as a wild beast.

You’re on earth
There’s no cure for that”
Above all: be there, be part of AstaroTheatro community and enjoy the pasta just cooked for you.
The whole event is by donation, including the pasta.

Thank You!
In October and November 2025 several autonomous community-based initiatives took place in order to financially support AstaroTheatro, allowing it to continue doing what she does best: participatory theatre. These initiatives include VoKus, fundraisers and events. Since AstaroTheatro is proudly independent and values her autonomy and integrity, she doesn’t receive institutional art-fundings.

Now, at the end of the year and after almost three months of autonomous fundraisings, AstaroTheatro can only say: “Thank You!”
So much gratitude to all the various communities who independently organized and, in many ways, managed to raise enough funds to keep our activist theatre going, at least for the time being.

AstaroTheatro looks forward to a 2026 filled with challenges, definitely not only financial ones. Artistically, politically and humanely our theatre aims to continue all her activities and to be a safe haven to the marginalized and racialized in search of arts and connections.

Ghoula – A Long Durational Theatre Performance

And the nations shall fall like dying bulls, like calves and buffaloes. Earth shall be irrigated with blood and soil shall become obese with their molten fat.

Thorns will overrun citadels, nettles and brambles the strongholds.
Metropolises will become a haunt for jackals, a home for owls.
Desert creatures will meet with hyenas, and wild goats will bleat to each other; there the Ghoula will also lie down and find for herself places of rest.
The snake will nest there and lay eggs,
she will hatch them, and care for her young

Falcons will gather, each with their mate

Ghoula has no clear beginning and definitely no fixed ending. You are invited to join the long durational flow
Shadow of theater. Did we?
Ghoula is a moment of fluid theatre. It touches performance art, poetry, storytelling, soundscapes and music without being labelled as any these practices.
